Henry Moore

Most of these sketchbooks have survived and provide insight into Moore's development. He placed great importance on drawing; even when he had arthritis, he still was able to draw. After the Second World War, Moore's bronzes took on their larger scale, which was particularly suited for public art commissions. As a matter of practicality, he largely abandoned direct carving, and took on several assistants to help produce maquettes. By the end of the 1940s, he produced sculptures increasingly by modelling, working out the shape in clay or plaster before casting the final work in bronze using the lost wax technique. At his home in Much Hadham, Moore built up a collection of natural objects; skulls, driftwood, pebbles, rocks and shells, which he would use to provide inspiration for organic forms. For his largest works, he often produced a half-scale, working model before scaling up for the final moulding and casting at a bronze foundry

Hazardous waste essee

Steve Astok If we are poisoning the Earth, then we are poisoning ourselves Hazardous waste is one of today's biggest environmental problems. The waste poses substantial threats to public health and to the environment. Hazardous waste is mostly produced by major industries. Almost all industries have to get rid of the waste that has been produced due to their work. Mostly, it is difficult and expensive to get rid of the waste so that it does not endanger the environment or human lives. Many industries create landfills to store waste and quite often the new landfill is near the water. The levels of dangerous waste continue to grow thanks to individuals too. Some people are too lazy to throw the trash into the litter bin. They think that it is easier to dump it without realizing that it could be dangerous for the environment.

"Gross" means that GDP measures production regardless of the various uses to which that production can be put. Production can be used for immediate consumption, for investment in new fixed assets or inventories, or for replacing depreciated fixed assets. "Domestic" means that GDP measures production that takes place within the country's borders. · In the expenditure-method equation, the exports-minus-imports term is necessary in order to null out expenditures on things not produced in the country (imports) and add in things produced but not sold in the country (exports). Economists (since Keynes) have preferred to split the general consumption term into two parts; private consumption, and public sector (or government) spending. · Two advantages of dividing total consumption this way in theoretical macroeconomics are: 1. Private consumption is a central concern of welfare economics.

Firstly, it is positive that I can buy what I want. I can buy all necessary and pointless things in shops. It is good that people make different things because people, who go to the shop, can choose exactly that thing what he wants and he can choose price too. If he has rich, he can choose expensive thing and if he has poor, he can choose cheap things. Quality is different and then price is different too

the modern forklift was invented, when skids evolved into pallets, revolutionizing the way merchandise was stored and transported. The new design of pallets allowed goods to be moved, stored and stacked with extraordinary speed and versatility. During the WWII the allied countries established a standard size pallet to ease shipment and transportation. This agreement skyrocketed the production and popularity of wooden pallets during the war After the war variety of sizes and designs were produced and used. The transport and storage of different sizes pallets made it costly and ment higher labor costs. So in 1968, the distribution managers of several major Canadian grocery companies met to establish a standard pallet. The result was the 48 X 40 four-way entry wood pallet, known as the GPMC (Grocery Product Manufacturers of Canada) pallet. This standard pallet became the most common and widespread. Sustainability aspects of biofuels

Other plants' building blocks like cellulose and lignin are currently not being used to make biofuels as there is not a commercial viable production method for making ethanol form cellulosic biomass (FAO, 2008). Biodiesel is based on the oil crops, such as rapeseed in Europe and soybean in the USA and Brazil. In tropical regions, biodiesel feedstock can also be sourced from palm, coconut and jatropha oils, but these are currently not major feedstock for biodiesel. Biodiesel is produced by combining vegetable oil with an alcohol and a catalyst through a chemical process known as transesterification (FAO, 2008). Margit Tepner k0848752 Figure 1. Typically it refers to the gas produced by the anaerobic digestion or fermentation of organic matter including manure, sewage sludge, municipal solid waste, biodegradable waste. If opportunely refined it can be used for electricity production. Also for space-, water- or process heating. Unintentional production of biogases has been an ongoing issue in many regions of the world, and several nations have also looked to biogas as a potential source of clean energy. Compact fluorescent bulbs, or "CFLs", have made inroads into home lighting systems in the last few years. Atomic energy

Nuclear power produces around 11% of the world's energy needs, and produces huge amounts of energy from small amounts of fuel, without the pollution that you would get from burning fossil fuels. Nuclear power costs about the same as coal, so it's not expensive to make. Although not much waste is produced, it is very, very dangerous. It must be sealed up and buried for many thousands of years. For all that time it must be kept safe from earthquakes, flooding, terrorists and everything else. This is difficult. Nuclear power is reliable, but a lot of money has to be spent on safety - if it does go wrong, a nuclear accident can be a major disaster. One of the most feared disadvantages of nuclear energy is the potential for weapons. Each

BARRIERS TO DISTRICT HEATING DEVELOPMENT IN SOME EUROPEAN COUNTRIES

It increases risks and financing costs, like in the UK and Ireland, where DH is not established. There are few multi- family houses with central heating and it is expensive to build DH networks in built areas. Most French DH systems are operated according to long-term concessions by companies that sell electricity and gas. No strong actor provides unbiased DH support. In the Czech Republic, gas offers DH severe competition. Much DH is produced at the expense of electricity that is considered more valuable, and waste incineration is not popular. In Romania, DH consumption was reduced by one-half. Distribution losses are enormous. New less polluting plants are needed. Consortia from established DH countries could offer DH systems from fuel to customer if local policies facilitate DH development. Introduction This paper describes barriers to district heating (DH) in various parts of Europe and to Swedish

then more commonly used. Types of forges Coal/charcoal forge Gas forge Gas forge A gas forge typically uses propane or natural gas as the fuel. Gas forges vary in size and construction, from large forges using a big burner with a blower or several atmospheric burners The primary advantage of a gas forge is ease of use, particularly for a novice. A gas forge is simple to operate compared to coal forges, and the fire produced is clean and consistent Coal/charcoal forge A forge typically uses bituminous coal or charcoal as the fuel to heat metal. A forge of this type is essentially a hearth or fireplace designed to allow a fire to be controlled such that metal introduced to the fire may be brought to a malleable state or to bring about other metallurgical effects. Forge fire in this type of forge is controlled in three ways: amount of air, volume of fuel, and shape of the fuel/fire. THE END

What are the benefits and dangers of building new factories

What are the benefits and dangers of building new factories?

recyclable material, it would save earths resources and also slow down global warming. On the other hand, there are some throwbacks as well. Firstly, companies which do not have experience with factories might produce an enormous amount of air pollution. Secondly, sophisticated combinations need highly educated experts, otherwise failure might cause chemical fires, which may lead to catastrophic disasters. What is more, new factories tend to start with cheap products which are produced with toxic chemicals and usually end up polluting our groundwater. In conclusion, there are clearly both marvelous and terrible sides to building new factories. Personally, I believe that building new factories is marvelous because it has positive affect on economy and also gives1 job for unemployed people, however building new factories has negative effect on environment and nature, also might have low quality products.
