If we are poisoning the Earth, then we are poisoning
ourselves
Hazardous   waste  is one of today ’s biggest environmental problems. The  waste
poses substantial threats to public health and to the environment.
Hazardous waste is mostly produced by major  industries. Almost  all industries
have to get rid of the waste that has been produced due to their  work . Mostly, it is
difficult and expensive  to get rid of the waste so that it does not endanger the
environment or human  lives . Many industries  create  landfills to store  waste and quite
often the new landfill is near the water.
The levels of dangerous  waste continue to  grow  thanks to individuals too. Some
people are too lazy to throw the  trash into the  litter  bin. They think that it is  easier  to
dump it  without  realizing that it  could  be dangerous for the environment.
As a  solution , the  government  can  increase  regulations on the disposal of
hazardous waste. It can create modern landfills that are using modern technologies. Those
landfills could break down chemical compounds into less dangerous forms.
Civilians can choose  not to buy those  products  which require the  production  of
hazardous waste. They can choose products with biodegradable packages. They can
organize collective  actions  for cleaning the waste from the  nature .
Hazardous waste is a big problem to humans and nature. We have to pay more
attention  to this problem, because waste poisons the earth and consequently our food too.

ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEMS

require urgent attention. 1. Pollution: Pollution of air, water and soil require millions of years to recoup. Industry and motor vehicle exhaust are the number one pollutants. Heavy metals, nitrates and plastic are toxins responsible for pollution. While water pollution is caused by oil spill, acid rain, urban runoff; air pollution is caused by various gases and toxins released by industries and factories and burning of fossil fuels; soil pollution is majorly caused by industrial waste that deprives soil from essential nutrients. FIND OUT 5 WAYS HOW TO STOP POLLUTION. 2. Global Warming: Climate changes like global warming is the result of human practices like emission of Greenhouse gases. Global warming leads to rising temperatures of the oceans and the earth surface causing melting of polar ice caps, rise in sea levels and also flash floods, excessive snow or desertification. FIND OUT 5 WAYS HOW TO STOP GLOBAL WARMING. 3

waste incineration, burning fuels (wood, coal or oil), chlorine bleaching of pulp and paper and chlorinated pesticides manufacturing. Burning of many materials containing chlorine, such as plastics and wood treated with pentachlorophenol also produce dioxins. According to a study in the context of the Stockholm Convention, the main sources for emissions of dioxins to air in EU25 are Residential combustion (~ 30%) Open burning of waste (backyard burning) (~15%) Wood preservation (~15%) Iron and steel industry (~ 8%) Power production, nonferrous metals, chemical industry (~ 5% each) Emissions in estonia Tabel 2.1.2.2. Environmental issues in Estonia

Environmental issues in Estonia The Earth is considered to be the most beatiful planets in the Universe. But our planet is threaten by environmental problems. Even a small country like Estonia can make difference. Our capital city is fighting against air pollution. But people produce much refuse and ways of recycling are getting old. Water pollution is also a problem in Estonia. We have factories that let their waste run into rivers. One of the biggest problems in Estonia is air pollution. Our air is polluted by exhaust fumes, because today we have a lot of cars, buses and other machines. In 2009 we had 407 cars to thousand inhabitants, which is lower than European Union average, but this number is still high. Because cars produce gases that contain carbon dioxide. This carbon dioxide in the air causes global warming, which is the result of the greenhouse effect. Tallinn wants to fight

Biogas – The source of future energy

It provides a brief review of usage and future prospects of the biogas. I have tried to make this report as understandable as possible. By the end of this report I want to come to a conclusion whether biogas is the best source of future energy or are there any other sources that are better. What is biogas? Typically it refers to the gas produced by the anaerobic digestion or fermentation of organic matter including manure, sewage sludge, municipal solid waste, biodegradable waste. If opportunely refined it can be used for electricity production. Also for space-, water- or process heating. Unintentional production of biogases has been an ongoing issue in many regions of the world, and several nations have also looked to biogas as a potential source of clean energy. India and China have both invested extensively in creative biogas technology to provide fuel for their citizens and there are a number of

Thoughts on Air Pollution Essay

In order to accomplish this, governments, scientists and environmentalists are using or testing a variety of methods aimed at reducing pollution. There are two main types of pollution control. Input control involves preventing a problem before it occurs, or at least limiting the effects the process will produce. Five major input control methods exist. People may try to restrict population growth, use less energy, improve energy efficiency, reduce waste, and move to non-polluting renewable forms of energy production. Also, automobile-produced pollution can be decreased with highly beneficial results. Output control, the opposite method, seeks to fix the problems caused by air pollution. This usually means cleaning up an area that has been damaged by pollution. Input controls are usually more effective than output controls. Output controls are also more expensive, making them less desirable to tax payers and polluting industries.

Environmental Issues and Sustainable Development in Estonia

Environmental Issues and Sustainable Development in Estonia We are all a part of the environment that surrounds us. Unfortunately, people do not always know how to take care of the things that are vital to our survivor but what we take for granted such as water, air and forests products. However, things have improved in recent years. What has been done to improve the environment in Estonia? People today are too lazy to think or to do something to protect the environment. They dump their waste into forests and even rivers which causes air and water pollution. Fortunately, people have come up with different organisations and events to help clean our envrionment. An annual event such as ,,Teeme ära!" motivates people to go out, spend time with friends and family and have fun while cleaning up the trash. This event first took place in 2008 and is now one of the biggest worldwide environmental events. Estonian Commission on Sustainable Development is one of the organisations that is
