In the atmosphere they react with water, oxygen and other chemicals to form more acidic pollutants, known as acid rain. Sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides dissolve very easily in water and can be carried very far by wind. As a result, the two compounds travel long distances where they become part of the rain, sleet, snow or fog. SO2 and NOx come mainly from power stations and factories burning fossil fuels, or from motor vehicles. · Carbon dioxide in the air can dissolve in rain water to form carbonic acid, H 2CO3 CO2 + H2O H2CO3 · During the last century the rain water in some parts of the world has become far more acidic. This acid rain has been caused by the emission of pollutants gasses such as sulfuric dioxide, when goal is burned in electric power stations, sulfur impurities form sulfur dioxide
Environmental issues in Estonia The Earth is considered to be the most beatiful planets in the Universe. But our planet is threaten by environmental problems. Even a small country like Estonia can make difference. Our capital city is fighting against air pollution. But people produce much refuse and ways of recycling are getting old. Water pollution is also a problem in Estonia. We have factories that let their waste run into rivers. One of the biggest problems in Estonia is air pollution. Our air is polluted by exhaust fumes, because today we have a lot of cars, buses and other machines. In 2009 we had 407 cars to thousand inhabitants, which is lower than European Union average, but this number is still high. Because cars produce gases that contain carbon dioxide. This carbon dioxide in the air causes global warming, which is the result of the greenhouse effect. Tallinn wants to fight
Both have their positive and negative sides. There are differences in the environment, in job opportunities and how expencive or cheap is to live in the countryside. Those differences are making people to think about advantages and disadvantages of living in a countryside. There are several advantages, why to live in the countryside. First, environment in the countryside is very different. There is less pollution and there is no danger because there are no´t so many cars, motorbikes, and factories. You can admire the beautiful landscapes such as huge meadows, peaceful hills or forests. You can keep yourself in fit and you do not have to worry about your health, because there are pure air and water. Life in a countryside is much cheaper than in the city. You can grow your own vegetables and fruits. It is healthier and cheaper way to eat and live. People in a countryside are very friendly and kind. They are helpful for each others and they
g. cultivated and wild berries, mushrooms, ecologically pure produce etc are for export. The forest is among Estonia's most important natural resources and a source of a considerable amount of raw material. Wooden construction details, wooden furniture and wooden houses are being exported. The main export destinations are Finland, Sweden, Germany, Norway and Great Britain. Estonian cellulose and paper industries have a long history, some factories have been in operation since the mid-19th century. Today the raw material comes from local forests as well as from Russia, Latvia and Lithuania. The most important branch among processing industries in Estonia is timber, paper and furniture industry. Second comes the food processing industry, mostly in the form of meat and milk producing, but the production of drinks, bread and confectioneries is also substantial.
ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEMS Our environment is constantly changing. However, as our environment changes, so does the need to become increasingly aware of the problems that surround it. With a massive influx of natural disasters people need to be aware of what types of environmental problems our planet is facing. Current environmental problems make us vulnerable to disasters and tragedies, now and in the future. Unless we address the various issues seriously we are surely doomed for disaster. Current environmental problems require urgent attention. 1. Pollution: Pollution of air, water and soil require millions of years to recoup. Industry and motor vehicle exhaust are the number one pollutants
industry as many of the enterprises were oriented to the Soviet military industry and their products became unnecessary after Estonia regained its independence. In the economic chaos that ruled in Russia, old contacts with Russian enterprises were lost. Several large- scale enterprises of the chemical industry are located in the industrial area of the North- Eastern Estonia and have by now been largely restored, having found new partners and markets as well as new products. The largest factories include Nitrofert, Viru Keemia and Velsicol in Kohtla-Järve and Silmet in Sillamäe.
I'd like to present the main issues of our planet and today i'll name 5 of them. These are air pollution, water pollution, endangered animals, deforestation and rubbish. Air pollution Firstly, lets talk about air pollution, which endangeres our life in cities and also the forests near by. Cars and factories blow poisoned gas in the air and it mixes with the oxygen, so the air that we breathe, becomes dangerous to our health. The ozone layer around the Earth, there is a special type of oxygen called ,,ozone". Ozone is important because it stops ultraviolett radiation from the sun. Many aerosol sprays and factories destroy ozone and they have made a very big hole in the ozone layer. This means that too much ultraviolet radiation now enters the Earth. This is very dangerous because it can cause cancer
grave. Through buffoonery, utter mismanagement and downright stealing of the wealth of the masses, these leaders have so impoverished Africa that we are now nothing but a beggar continent. We beg for everything; we are more dependent on our colonial masters than when we received our independence from them. Africa owes the West more money than we and our generations to come can pay. I arrived in America in December of 1967as an official of what we believed was going to be a dynamic African nation – the young Republic of Biafra. But Biafra was defeated and Nigeria remained one, as a giant of Africa. In the last 32 years, I have watched with horror and outright helplessness as the downward slide of the African race continues to escalate. But rather than address the problems, we resort to blaming the Caucasians, Asians and others for our misfortune. We are not men enough to accept responsibility for our actions
