I really enjoyed reading this book, seeing events from different point of views was facinating and made reading interesting. I chose this book because of its interesting title. Native American government policy is a recurrent topic, especially because the Kashpaw family is (according to Nector) “respected as the last hereditary leaders of this tribe. Loss of a cultural identity and Native American spirituality characterizes and separates the two generations in Love Medicine: “They gave you worthless land to start with and then they chopped it out from under your feet. They took your kids away and stuffed the English language in their mouth.” The generations that Erdrich covers experience that loss of culture. The youngest family members (or, perhaps those who attend American schools) are socialized in an American tradition rather than a Native American tradition. With each passing of a generation, vital knowledge of the culture seems to be lost

Conventional medicine has little to learn from alternative medicine. In our modern world more and more people look for alternative medicine instead of taking conventional treatment. Which of these treatments is better or can they both be used effectively in different cases? It is generally understood that when having a severe condition or an emergency, conventional treatment is strongly needed. For example, in a case of a heart attack or a severed limb, it is vital to find a way to a hospital or surgeon in a hurry. Unlike alternative medicine,

gathers knowledge faster than society gathers wisdom.”. The more one thinks about his words, the more they have to be accepted. It is true that science affects people, but the most influential is the part that directly concerns them and their lives. That is why this essay will take a closer look at some of the pros and cons of medical development. I will begin with the positive aspects of medical evolution. Firstly, thanks to advanced medicine, doctors are able to detect diseases at an early stage, or even before they arise, which gives people a longer life. Secondly, knowing how diseases spread and behave is possible with the help of medicines to avoid huge outbreaks that could kill thousands of people. Thirdly, studies will be helping to make the medicaments less harmful. Fourthly, making complex transplant operations can help many people to survive and live a full life.

not necessary to kill something just to have a trophy on the wall at home. People can be proud of what they have done, but decreasing the population of a species largely will cause the specific animal breed to go extinct faster than it would happen via natural causes. Therefore, humans should stop hunting endangered species to slow down their extinction, as these species offer balance in the wildlife, are used without purpose in medicine, and may even reduce poverty. Species on the brink of extinction affect us more than we realize. Sure, pandas are cute, and rhinos are fun to look at, but is there anything more to that? All animals and plants form a very important part of our ecosystem that also includes our lands and waters. Remove one part from the environment and damage will be done. For example, after the last wolves were killed in Yellowstone Park in 1926, problems began to emerge. During the 70 years
Alternative medicine Alternative medicine is defined as therapeutic practices which are not currently considered a part of conventional medical practice. Alternative therapies include folk medicine, herbal medicine, homeopathy, acupuncture, massage, color and music therapy and several other therapies. Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese therapy that involves inserting needles into the skin at specific points of the body. These points are believed to be energy channels and related to the internal organs. Aromatherapy is the method of healing using very concentrated essential oils that are often highly aromatic and extracted from plants. There are several tehniques used in aromatherapy
Health is the level of functional or metabolic efficiency of an organism at both the cellular and social level. In the medical field, health is commonly defined as an organism's ability to succesfully respond to challenges and effectively restore and keep a so-called ,,state of balance". 2. History · Early hospitals During the Middle Ages the hospital could serve other functions, such as an almshouse for the poor, or hostel for pilgrims. In ancient cultures, religion and medicine were linked. The earliest known institutions aiming to provide cure were Egyptian temples. Greek temples dedicatedto the healer-god, might admit the sick, who would wait for guidance from the god in a dream. The Romans adopted this worship. The Sri Lankans are perhaps responsible for introducing theconcept ofdedicated hospitals to the world. According to an ancient chronicle, written in the 6 th century A.D., a king had lying-in homes and hospitals built in various parts of the country
It is not healty to eat too much sweets. When we eat more food and get more calories than our body uses, we get fat. It is also good for our health to drink a few glasses of fresh water every day. To prevent diseases we should also have regular check-ups with the doctor and the dentist. History Human beings have suffered from diseases since they first appeared on Earth. Because of that medicines history is as old as human beings, meaning about 2.5 million years. First medicine was mainly based on superstition and guesswork, because people knew very little about humans body. Plants were very much used, because they were easy to get and they could treat very well. Still the origin of healing dates back to the birth of first civilisations. About 3000 B.C. the Egyptians began making some important process in medicine. The Egyptian god of healing Imhotep was actually one of the first physician of the world. At 2500 B.C. Egyptian physicians started to specialize

Art of Healing: present and future Health is very important for people. They try to keep themselves healthy because otherwise they would feel miserable. People watch carefully what they eat and many go to regular check-ups. But still people get ill, even the healthiest people catch a cold sometimes. Nothing can prevent accidents to happen. The people who are ill or some kind of an accident has happened to them need help. Medicine is the science and art of healing. It is a science because it is based on knowledge gained through careful study and experimentation. Medicine develops very quickly. Nowadays the doctors can do almost anything they want. Egyptian doctors began to specialize in 2500 B.C. At that time they were already quite skilful. When a man lost a limb there was a big possibility that he would lose too much blood and die or get a blood poisoning before that time.

Should parents be obliged to immunize their children against childhood diseases? Or do individuals have the right to choose not to immunize their children? Some people argue that the state has the right to make parents immunize their children. It seems to me that immunisation is necessary because it stops spreading diseases all over the world. Preventive medicine is a very useful way to eradicate illnesses because by applying it we do not need to cure diseases or treat their symptoms, we just prevent them. Every year thousand of children’s lives are saved thanks to timely vaccination. In addition, history also demonstrates us that childhood illnesses of previous centuries such as measles, tuberculosis and diphtheria have declined dramatically nowadays due to preventive care, which has protected children from potentially deadly diseases.

However, they are sometimes used in patients with stages 3 and 4 chronic kidney disease (CKD). Timing is important when taking phosphate binders. Phosphate binders must be taken with meals, otherwise they do not work. This is because they only bind phosphate in food that you consume. If a dose is not taken within 30-minutes from when you last ate, it should be skipped and the following dose taken as scheduled with the next meal. Also, do not double up on the medicine if a dose is missed because this will increase the risk of side effects. Dialysis: Patients who progress to end-stage renal disease (ESRD) usually require dialysis. Dialysis does not remove phosphate from the blood as effectively as it removes other substances. Regular dialysis treatments helps remove just a little of the excess phosphate from your body. Thus, dialysis alone is not enough to control phosphate levels in your body. Diet and medications are also necessary.

Should cloning be banned ? Cloning is using genetic engineering to make exact copies of living animals and plants. One of the most famous cloning processes involved a sheep named Dolly. The sheep was the first mammal cloned from adult DNA. Since then it has become part of real life and the subject of public debate. For some people, human cloning is acceptable in medicine in spite of the criticism that it is repulsive. Firstly, cloning the organs can save many lives. For example when a person needs an organ and can not find a donor, doctors could just give her the cloned organ. People would not need to donate their organs anymore. Secondly, parents who can not have children may wish to clone a child for themselves. Also endangered animal or plants could be cloned to rise their species. On the other hand, there are also many arguments againts cloning.
Althought it is good and comfortable for humans, it is not good for the air we breathe because of the exhaust fumes. This is the example to my belief that every technology have pros and cons at the same time. Year by year people are getting used to get their work done by or with technology, that is why i think we may get lazy and do not value what we have to do to get something done. Technology helps us to live longer. Our medicine is on whole next level than it was a century ago. I am sure that in future our average age will raise. Even thought we develop technology for better life quality, we have to be careful not to harm ourselves because i am sure that there is no good without bad.

Also I think, that when we are allready going to Egypt. We should spend a lot of money. The food, housing and medicine should be in the price. I hope that my dreams will come true. I really-really want to go there and someday if this day comes. I will enjoy it much. See you Egypt.
Future career Around the world there are so many different peole who do different jobs. My mother works in a hospital. She's a nurse of extraordinary medicine. She loves her job, because she thinks it's interesting to help all these people. She has also worked in a bank and when she was younger she was a secretary. When she graduated high school she wanted to become a stewardess, but life went the other way. My father works in Finland. He is a builder. Sometimes he is abroad for several months. He worked couple of years ago at the same hospital where my mother works. He was an ambulance driver.

For me it was hard to focus on the lecture, because all the activities caused a lot of noise and it was hard to listen to the doctor. In my opinion the lecture was very instructive and educational. Secondly, the lecture that was carried out by Tallinn Genetic Engineering Institute's director. The subject of the lecture was very difficult. He discussed genetics in general, the history of DNA and genetic engineering's development. Genetics is a science of heredity. It's a very important part of medicine. In my opinion the lecture was difficult, but very exciting. Thirdly, the lecture that was carried out by two women. The subject of that lecture was organ labor standards and transplatations. Every person has a right to choose to assign their organ or not. It's possible to implant lungs, heart, liver, kidneys, pancreas and small intestine. In Estonia it's not possible to transplant a heart and small intestine. In my opinion that lecture was the best.
is to actually think, think what they are, what they want and what makes THEM them. I think that's the main reason why people don't make the right choices. I and Scott Dinsmore think the same way- that the environment and peole around you matter. When I was choosing my specialty, I did exactly what he refers to. I figured myself out and realized that right now and for the rest of my life I want to work with multimedia and that doesn't mean I can't accomplish other dreams too, like study medicine, design, art, music and so on. I'm absolutely sure, that I chose the right path. His advice is that you shouldn't do something because everyone says your supposed to. You should accomplish your own impossibilities and surround yourself with passionate people.
