past three summers, my dad, Charlie, vacationed with me in California for two weeks instead. It was to Forks that I now exiled myself-- an action that I took with great horror. I detested Forks. I loved Phoenix. I loved the sun and the blistering heat. I loved the vigorous, sprawling city. "Bella," my mom said to me -- the last of a thousand times -- before I got on the plane. "You don't have to do this." My mom looks like me, except with short hair and laugh lines. I felt a spasm of panic as I stared at her wide, childlike eyes. How could I leave my loving, erratic, harebrained mother to fend for herself? Of course she had Phil now, so the bills would probably get paid, there would be food in the refrigerator, gas in her car, and someone to call when she got lost, but still... "I want to go," I lied. I'd always been a bad liar, but I'd been saying this lie so frequently lately that it sounded almost convincing now. "Tell Charlie I said hi

I might have resented that if he hadn't been the dearest person on earth to me. "I'm not talking about a bender," he insisted. "Just a glass of wine or two. We can hit a happy hour and be in by eight." "I don't know if I'll make it back in time." I gestured at my yoga pants and fitted workout tank. "After I time the walk to work, I'm going to hit the gym." "Walk fast, work out faster." Cary's perfectly executed arched brow made me laugh. I fully expected his million-dollar face to appear on billboards and fashion magazines all over the world one day. No matter his expression, he was a knockout. "How about tomorrow after work?" I offered as a substitute. "If I make it through the day, that'll be worth celebrating." "Deal. I'm breaking in the new kitchen for dinner." "Uh..." Cooking was one of Cary's joys, but it wasn't one of his talents. "Great." Blowing a wayward strand of hair off his face, he grinned at me. "We've got a kitchen most

AMBER AND LIGHT AMBER During the 1990s, some purebred Norwegian Forest Cats in Sweden produced chocolate/lilac and cinnamon/fawn offspring. However, those colours are not found in the purebred Norwegian Forest Cat gene pool. Had the gene pool become polluted by someone, perhaps generations ago, breeding their Norwegian Forest Cat to another breed? Was it a spontaneous mutation? Crossing of those cats with known chocolate and cinnamon colour cats of other breeds ruled out chocolate/lilac and cinnamon/fawn genes. These cats were a totally new colour, peculiar to the Norwegian Forest Cat gene pool and dubbed the "X Colours". They are now called Amber and Light Amber. The Amber effect is due to the extension gene (also called red factor) which controls the production of red and black pigment. The dominant version of the gene produces normal black pigment in the coat while the recessive version produces red pigment

She thinks that she is not important to him. Mr. Higgins thanks God it's all over, and Eliza thinks that now he can throw her back again to the gutter. What does Higgins say to make a point that Eliza has no right to be angry? Higgins says that she is overreacting. He tells her that after she sleeps she will feel better. "It's only imagination. Low spirits and nothing else. Nobody's hurting you. Nothing's wrong. You go to bed like a good girl and sleep it off. Have a little cry and say your prayers: that will make you comfortable." Why does Eliza wish that she was dead? Why does she say that she wished Higgins had left her where he found her? She does not know what to do with herself, now that she has won the bet. She sold flowers. Now she is a lady. She is not fit to sell anything else. Now that the experiment is over, what does Higgins suggest Eliza to do? He suggests Eliza to open a florist's shop. Germ". They would paint direct from nature, with objective truthfulness and genuine ideas in sympathy with what was direct and heartfelt in the art of the past. The brotherhoods techniques came from the early Flemish art- especially Van Eyck. To imitate the work of great Italian artists the PRB-s studied the colours in nature. To have the effect of glowing colours they invented a new method called "wet white". It was very difficult and wasn't used a lot (except Hunt). The technique was to apply colour on a wet brilliant white ground. For inspiration the brotherhood turned to the bible because they wanted to portray significant themes. They applied much original thought to their subjects, and this made them excellent illustrators. Only Hunt stayed true to the ideals of the PRB. Other two soon replaced the biblical inspiration with the medieval world- the plays of Shakespeare. Their paintings were very realistic which drew a lot of negative attention on them from various critics,

Observing hidden feelings Increased attention to body language will allow you to observe hidden feelings, prejudices and sexual intentions; all through your eyes and the other senses we use to perceive the world around us. Body language is the movements of arms and legs, body posture, the manner in which you sit, facial expressions, gait, eye movements and regular gestures such as stroking your hair, touching your nose, etc. Tilting your head signals that you are not dangerous. This is claimed to be a consequence of your mother tilting her head when she pitied you as a child. She showed you that she wasn't angry at you but wanted to comfort you. Your mother also patted her hand or your head when she was comforting you. We continue to do this even after we've grown up and don't have our mother there to do so anymore. We pat ourselves on the cheek, on the arm, or rub our hands together.

In Letters, Crevecoeur thus blended his collection of facts and observations into a fictional portrait of an industrious farmer, one whose natural response to the land became identified with the general character of a new American people. Yet while Crevecoeur echoed Jefferson, Thomas's agrarian ideals, his letters also acknowledged the realities of frontier savagery and southern slavery. After taking a post as a French consul in 1783, Crevecoeur published little in English, though he did publish a French revision of Letters (1787) and a final book on his American experiences: Voyage dans la Haute Pensylvanie et dans l'état de NewYork (1801). Letters from an American Farmer is an excellent example of how a New World American thinks about the many changes occurring and that have occurred during the era of Enlightenment. Crevecoeur's essay is an enlightened perspective that shows how the people of that time are feeling

He is often called England's national poet and the "Bard of Avon" (or simply "The Bard"). His surviv- ing works consist of 38 plays, 154 sonnets, two long narrative poems, and several other poems. His plays have been trans- lated into every major living language, and are performed more often than those of any other playwright. Shakespeare was born and raised in Stratford-upon-Avon. At the age of 18 he married Anne Hathaway, who bore him three children: Susanna, and twins Hamnet and Judith. Between 1585 and 1592 he began a successful career in London as an actor,

Rowling In 1990, a British woman in her mid-twenties called Joanne Rowling was on a train in England when she suddenly had an idea for a story she could write. She had enjoyed writing ever since she was a young girl, but there was something about the main character in this story that seemed especially exciting. He was a thin, black-haired boy who wore glasses. He was also a wizard, but didn't yet know about his magical powers. His name was Harry Potter. Harry has since made Rowling (whose pen name is J.K. Rowling) the richest author in the world. Her six books about his adventures have sold more than 300 million copies worldwide and exist in more than 50 different languages. Most of the readers are children or young teenagers, but the books are unusual in the way that they also appeal to adults.

Best known today for the Jeeves and Blandings Castle novels and short stories, Wodehouse was also a talented playwright and lyricist who was part author and writer of fifteen plays and of 250 lyrics for some thirty musical comedies. This group called themselves pilgrims because of their wanderings in search of religious freedom. There were 102 men, women and children on the ship- The pilgrims were poorly trained and poorly equipped to cope with life in the wilderness. One spring morning in 1621, an Indian came into the little village of Plymouth and introduced himself in friendly way. The Indians taught the pilgrims how to hunt, fish, and grow food. Because of this help from Indians, the pilgrims had a good harvest that year. Governor William Bradford invited the Indians to a feast. It lasted three days. They ate, danced, sang, ran races, whistled. This was called thanksgiving day. On October 3, 1863 Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a national thanksgiving
