Summary
LouAnne Johnson is a discharged U. S . Marine . She applies for a job at Parkmont High School. She gets the job as a academy teacher and is very happy about it. However, the class she is going to teach is not a regular class . There are teenagers from lower class and they are not willing to listen or learn.
Although she struggles to connect with her students , LouAnne does not give up. She tries to teach them karate. She also gives all of them an ’A’ and says , that it is important to keep it. LouAnne also tries to get their attention by using words and sentences , that are known to those children . She even went to theme park with the class, as an award for learning poetry.
LouAnne tries to solve some particular students personal problems. She persuades Callie (who became pregnant) to continue her studies after having baby, because she is a bright girl. The most trouble is LouAnne having with Emilio, who is very aggressive young man. She tries to talk to him and protects him from recently released thug. Unfortunately Emilio dies . Her most favourite and brightest boy in the class is Raul. LouAnne tells her to study hard, graduate and to not give up.
At the end of the year , LouAnne says to her class that she will not be teaching them the next year. Students refuse to let her leave and LouAnne changes her decision .
