Carl Lewis

First jump: 8,71 m. Second jump: 8,79 m, leaving at least 20 centimetres before the limit! Carl got dressed again and went away. Two hours later he's ready for the final of 200 m. His acceleration burns the track and, twenty meters far from the goal, raises his arms and greets the spectators. Final time: 19"75!! Journalists, who were astounded, asked him why he didn't try to break the world record (19"72): "I run against opponents not against absents" he replied. So the world championships of Helsinki confirmed his supremacy: three golds. It wasn't a secret Carl planned to win four gold medals at Los Angeles and he was at top during trials. He won all the competitions running 100 m in 10"06 (-2,2 m/s), 200 m in 19"86 (-0,2 m/s) and jumping 8,71 (+0,1 m/s). Two months later he's successful in winning four golds (100m ,200 m, long jump and 4x100 m relay). Equalizing Jesse Owens he becomes the "son of the wind" and "King Carl", two nicks which will take him up to the end of career.

Iluvõimlemine (kokkuvõte inglise keeles) Competitive rhythmic gymnastics

Competitive rhythmic gymnastics began in the 1940s in the Soviet Union. The FIG formally recognized this discipline in 1961, first as modern gymnastics, then as rhythmic sportive gymnastics, and finally as rhythmic gymnastics. The first World Championships for individual rhythmic gymnasts was held in 1963 in Budapest. Rhythmic gymnastics was added to the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, with an individual all-around competition. However, many federations from the Eastern European countries were forced to boycott by the Soviet Union. Canadian Lori Fung was the first rhythmic gymnast to earn an Olympic gold medal. The group competition was added to the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. Olympic rhythmic gymnastics is typically restricted to female participants, although Japan has begun developing programs in which men can compete and in Spain, men are allowed to participate in women's competitions. The men's program has yet to be forma...

Talent vs experience speech

firefighter need experience. Anybody isn’t born for becoming a firefighter. I believe that if you have a real intention, then you can be anything you want, you just have to work for it. I can’t say i am a talented dancer, but i have a real intention to dance, so i work hard to become more and more experienced If i hadn’t trained it i would not be there, where i am now: i have danced on many different stages in Estonia and abroad, for instance i have participated in World Championships and two times i have had chance to perform in television. So if you haven’t a talent, but you have a real intention, you can achieve anything you want even if it seems impossible. Finally, If you have both: talent and experience, it is the best way to succeed in your work. Like Irving Berling has said: “Talent is only the starting point“. If you have a talent and you work with it, you can reach further . A good example is a 13- years-old Estonian freestyle skier Kelly Sildaru

Cliff Diving Cliff diving is jumping from a platform that is usually a simple clearing along the cliff above a river, ocean or lake. Sometimes bridges are used as platforms. The platforms can be up to 100 feet above the water. Cliff diving is very popular in Switzerland where annual championships are being held. The roots of cliff diving are found at Kaunolu, on the Hawaiian Island of Lana´i. Back in 1770, Kahekili, the last independent king of Maui and chief of four islands was famous for "lele kawa", which in English means leaping off high cliffs and entering the water feet first without a splash. In order to prove their courage and loyalty, Kahekili forced his warriors to follow his example, jumping of the leap into the Royal Waters at Kaunolu.

History of Football

The sport was practically ended with the Football Association's decision to ban women's football in 1921 due to supposed bad taste. However, it was eventually revived following the formation of the English Women's FA in 1969 and the lifting of the ban in 1971. On a global level too, the game expanded and, by 1992, Japan was home to the first semi-professional women's league (the L. League). Today, there are major international competitions, most notably the Women's World Cup and the European Championships. Furthermore, in the UK, statistics showed well over 100,000 registered women's footballers at the end of 2005. This was almost a ten-fold increase from the 11,200 registered in 1993, attesting both to the popularity of women's football in itself and the cross-gender appeal of the sport generally. http://www.talkfootball.co.uk/guides/history_of_football.html

Fabio Capello

THE REAL FABIO CAPELLO Independent, The (London), Dec 13, 2007 The Italian poised to become the new England manager is an admirer of the Pope and Silvio Berlusconi and praised the 'order' left by General Franco. The FA may be hoping he learns to keep his opinions to himself. By Cahal Milmo A touchline philosopher The blazerati of the Football Association are well known for their dislike of controversy. In the past, rampant publicity over the personal affairs of England managers has done little to endear them to the sport's mandarins. So a disciplined, conservative Italian who attempts to shun the limelight, avoids late nights and socialises outside football circles would appear to be their man. Yesterday, Fabio Capello sat down for talks with FA bosses that are expected to result in him being awarded a multi-million pound contract before Christmas. A perfect match? Well, possibly. There's just one thing. The con...

against the wall. I agree with Tracy 100%, though the path that led me to the swing was quite different. In 1999, I made thrice-weekly pilgrimages from Princeton to Philadelphia where I trained at a gym called Maxercise. For the 45-minute workout that justi ed the trip, I was commuting more than two hours. Steve Maxwell, the owner of Maxercise, was a six-time Pan- American gold medalist in Brazilian jiu- jitsu (two world championships came later) and held a master's degree in exercise science. His clients ranged from the FBI and Secret Service to the Phillies and the Dodgers. His singular focus was on measurable results. If something didn't work, it didn't last long with Maxwell. I rst met kettlebells on a frigid winter evening in Maxercise's second- oor torture chamber. They were generally reserved for ghters and aspiring strong men. Most of the high-velocity
