The book I read is called “Life At The Top” written by John Braine. It is a continuation to a novel “Room At The Top”. It is all set 20th century , England .
The main characters are Joe Lampton, an ambitious man of humble origins, his gorgeous upper- class wife Susan , two children Harry and Barbara . Barbara is Joe´s dearest treasure . Harry is a lot like Joe – he wants to please everybody and he wants so be his own master, too. There are also Mr. Brown who is Susan´s father , her wife Margaret Brown, Susan´s cousins Mark and Sybil, a number of businesspartners , Joe´s secretary Hilda and two lovely ladies Norah Hauxley and Jean.
