Estonians
Estonia is quite a northern country and therefore Estonians may seem a bit peculiar to ones from south, but don’t be scared, they will not eat you ( alive ).
Estonians are quite tranquilly and bottled up people - they might love or hate you and if you’re not an expert will not make a difference as they didn’t care at all. Rarely tend they to kiss or hug each other unless their beloved ones. So if they nevertheless do it then there ’s a great chance you’re dealing with some non- Estonians. But there’s no reason for worrying- if a person is from a region where that kind of over-loving-behaviour is common and he or she practices it anyway then a bathetic Estonian will just bear it and play along.
In case of visiting like in many other European countries in Estonia it’s also polite to bring some presents with you, usually a box of chocolate or something like that will do the trick . To greet “Tere!” is the word you won’t get wrong , but if you use something else equivalent in English for example they’ll understand . If not, you have potentially bumped into a non-Estonian.
Despite that there’s nothing extraordinary in eating habits or social life in Estonia – fork and knife are the usual, sticks in Chinese restaurant – people love to party and spend time with their friends and family. If you don’t believe, go see yourself ... (Yes, Estonia is the little one in up there next to Russia )

· Women are stronger than men, because they can walk in a 12 cm stilettos without showing t

group. Due to seniority titles are very important when addressing people. It is expected that you will use a person's title and their surname until invited to use their first name. Cultural Traditions Estonian culture as an identity is very strong. Oral traditions especially have played a key role in preserving traditions, stories and customs during Soviet administration. Singing is a very Estonian activity and the Estonians are known to have sung their way to freedom during the "Singing Revolution" of 1989-91. Manners Estonians on the whole are quiet and reserved. They tend to speak softly and do not like to draw attention to themselves. Being rational, calm and not going to emotional extremes are all qualities that respected. At first Estonians can come across as aloof. Once a relationship warms up this becomes less so. Meeting and Greeting Greetings can come across as rather formal and rather reserved.

Soups are also blended with sour cream, milk and yogurt. The Main Course Pork and potatoes accompanied by a rich gravy and often served with sauerkraut or other vegetables has been the traditional Estonian main course. Pork has been the most important meat and is eaten roasted, cured as bacon, in the form of ham, or in pies and sausages. There are many other main dishes too. Black Bread Black rye bread accompanies almost every savory food in Estonia. Instead of wishing "bon appetit", Estonians are prone to say jätku leiba ("may your bread last"). Estonians continue to value their varieties of black rye-based bread. Estonia has not been a land of plenty. If a piece of bread was dropped on the floor, it was good form to pick it up, kiss it to show respect, and eat it.[citation needed] When Estonians live abroad, they often say that they miss black bread the most. Desserts Specific desserts include kissel, curd snack and kama. Rhubarb pies are a favorite. Red currant kissel

How to be a better guest There is something about Estonians As there has been a big increase in the number of people applying for study exchanges to Estonia, it is good to know some rules, habits and social life about Estonians. Being first time with new family you should know, that keeping a low profile is a half success. As the Estonians are uncommunicative people, the first look matters also a lot. But sometimes Estonians like open people too, who talk a lot, because we like to hear a lot but not talk much about ourselves. Secondly the Estonians do not hug and kiss on their first meetings. It is common in relationship or friendship but not in the first meeting. Shaking hands or just saying `'Tere'', which means hello, would be appropriate. Of course when they get to know you more and take you as a one of them, then there will be a variety of different greetings. But first stay on `'Tere''
