The British - Who Are They?

The British Who are they? The British are world famous on almost all walks of life. Their culture is rich and varied. Theatre The British have a tradition of theatre. Long, long time ago the culture of theatre was introduced from Europe to the British by the Romans. Many auditoriums were constructed across the country. The most famous British playwright is obviously William Shakespeare. He lived from 1564 to 1616. During that time he wrote about 40 plays, which are still played and used in today's theatre. His plays are performed more often than those of any other playwright. The first professional woman playwright was Aphra Behn. Nowadays there are not so many world famous dramatists in England but the memory of William Shakespeare and many others has preserved until today. Important modern playwrights include Alan Ayckbourn, John Osborne, Harold Pinter, Tom Stoppard, and Arnold Wesker. Music Many British music composers have ma...

Bänd The Who referaat

Väätsa Põhikool Mairo Org The Who referaat Väätsa The Who- on Inglise rockbänd, mis alustas tegevust 1964. aastal ja on saanud üheks kuulsaimaks ning mõjukaimaks koosseisuks rockmuusika ajaloos. Läbi kogu karjääri olid bändi live-esinemised väga energilised ja algusaastail pälvisid nad tähelepanu sellega, et lõhkusid laval oma pille. The Who alustas oma karjääri võrdlemisi lihtsate pop/R&B stiilis singlitega, kuid juba peale esimest albumit liikus nende muusika keerukamate heliteoste poole. Algupärasesse koosseisu kuulusid laulja Roger Daltrey, kitarrist ja põhiline laulukirjutaja Pete Townshend, basskitarrist John Entwistle ja trummar Keith Moon. 1978. aastal suri Keith Moon ennasthävitava elustiili tõttu. Bänd jätkas uue trummari Kenney Jones'iga, kuid 1983. aastal mindi ametlikult laiali. Nad tulid hiljem kokku mitmeteks üksikuteks esinemisteks, mille seas olid näiteks heategevusüritus Live Aid ja bändi 25. a...

The family who turned back the clock.

The family who turned back the clock. When Malcolm Jones woke up last Monday, he heard the birds singing. Not remarkable, you might think, especially given that he lives near a forest. But birdsong in the Jones household is usually drowned by a tidal wave of electronic music crashing around the house as soon as his four children wake up. This is a family who have chosen to fill their home with every conceivable gadget. They have nine television sets, including one in each bedroom and in the kitchen. All the children have their own personal computers and CD players. Of course, there are all the usual appliances we all take for granted, such as the washing machine, tumble drier, dishwasher, deep freeze, microwave oven, and video recorder, but they also have an electric trouser press, two power showers, an Olympic-sized spa bath and jacuzzi, three cars, and a music system which plays throughout the whole house. ...

Juhtumi analüüs Danny - The boy who couldn't sit still Danny on 9 aastane poiss, kellel on siis rohkesti energiat üle. Meeldib talle teha sporti, eriti pesapalli mängida.

The Most Influential Figures in British History

The Most Influential Figures in British History There are many important historical figures, who have helped shape Britain into what it is today. In my opinion Elizabeth I, Queen Victoria and Winston Churchill are the ones who stand out and have had the biggest impact on British history. Firstly, Elizabeth I made a great impression on British history as she kept England from major wars during her reign, the kingdom expanded and she supported culture. The rule of Elizabeth I can be called a peaceful time as England did not enter any huge conflicts. She managed to keep good relations with other great countries. However, the defeat of the Spanish Armada left no one questioning the superiority of the British navy. In addition, the kingdom’s territories grew during her reign, Virginia in America being named after „The Virgin Queen“. Queen Elizabeth I also valued culture. Arts flourished while Elizabeth was i...

Chocolate addiction

Chocolate addiction Anete Samelselg 2015 What is this addiction A person who is addicted to chocolate is called chocoholic. A chocoholic is a person who craves chocolate. There is some medical evidence to support the existence of actual addiction to chocolate. However, the term is mostly used loosely or humorously to describe a person who is inordinately fond of chocolate. The chocolate addiction happens mostly with women because they eat more emotionally than men. Why do people get addicted to it The essential components of addiction are intense craving for something, loss of control over the use of it, and continued use despite negative consequences. Studies have shown that people can exhibit all three of these components in relation to food, particularly food that contains sugar or fat. Since chocolate contains both, it is often used in studies of food addiction. Why it's bad Eating too much chocolat...

There are so many different countries and thousands of languages on planet Earth. Every nation has its own culture, which differs from others. When I have been to some exotic country I can understand the people better because I have seen their culture. Learning different cultures makes everything easier to understand. People who do not travel are missing most of the book, their mind is not so opened and they are unimaginative. They are stuck in their everyday routine. Film review “Scent of a Woman“ 1992 by Martin Brest

Film review "Scent of a Woman" 1992 by Martin Brest Scent of a Woman is the story of Frank Slade, a blind, retired army colonel who hires Charlie Simms, a poor college student on the verge of expulsion, to take care of him over Thanksgiving weekend. At the beginning of the weekend, Frank takes Charlie to New York, where he reveals to the student that he intends to visit his family, have a few terrific meals, sleep with a beautiful woman and, finally, commit suicide. Over the weekend, as they learn about life through their series of adventures, they start trusting eachother. Two absolute favourite scenes: The first is in the New York ballroom where the blind Lt. Colonel teaches a lady to dance the tango. It is so smooth and dramatic that even a couch potato is tempted to dance along. The second and most profound is the speech that Al Pacino makes in defense of Charlie at the prep school disciplinary hearing. It has to go down as...

A Movie Review of Moliere

A Movie Review of "Moliere" In 2007, a wonderful surprise "Moliere", enchanted the romantics and critics all over Europe. An historical love story, surrounded by affairs and intrigues, now retold in new colours, gained popularity amongst young and elderly, connecting those who prefer theatre, good humour and a little bit of sadness. It can be said that the play of the actors was one of the most successful challenges performed in front of the camera. They lived in the seventeenth century, talking and feeling everything as naturally as if they had been born around that time. The humour mostly gentle, sometimes cruel, described and criticised perfectly every aspect of the complicated society, the naïve King and the women who had secret love affairs. It is clear that the actors gave their best while filming the movie and got the result they may be proud of. As for more, the story itself is catching. The m...

Book report/review "The Snow Child"

The Snow Child English The Snow Child is a book by Eowyn Ivey. The author was inspired by the Russian fairytale Snegurotska while writing her debut novel. story takes place in Alaska 1920's and it talks about a couple, Jack and Mabel, who decide to make a snow girl out of snow. The next day the snow girl has become a real human being. Before Jack and Mable were living in Alaska they were living in Pennsylvania. They moved to Alaska to get away from the family, because they had lost their first child. It was hard for Mabel to recover there, because there were children around all the time. In Alaska they were living a very isolated life - no neighbours, no friends. In addition, at that time there did not exist such things as food shops, so they had to hunt all their food. Every person should train each day

Every person should train each day Many people are training every day and the other people just watch and ask ,,Isn't that bad?". Yes, there are negative things about that, but mostly it is because you work out too hard and then the good things fade away. The biggest positive thing about training is that your body looks good. You feel more comfortable in it when you know you've worked very hard to get it. Another good thing about training every day is that you feel more energized. Usually you wake up in the morning and feel very tired, but when you go on a daily run, it wakes you up and you feel a lot better during the day. Some people think that it is bad for your health to train daily, but I disagree. Studies have shown that people who train are more healthy and they don't get ill as often as other people. There might be few negative things when you train each day, but it's usually because peopl...

Pet therapy

Pet therapy.  A kind of treatment designed to stimulate people who are withdrawn or uncommunicative has recently been given a new name: pet therapy. It has given difficult children, lonely old people and even anti-social prisoners a completely new outlook on life  Even though pet therapy is only now being widely used, it is not a new idea. In the eighteenth century an English doctor, William Tuke, filled the grounds of a hospital for mentally disturbed people with chickens, rabbits and goats. At a time when people were usually punished for strange behavior rather than helped, this was a radical new approach to treating the mentally disturbed. Tuke's idea was that patients could learn self-control by caring for creatures weaker than themselves.  This is an idea which has persisted. In New York, horses, cows, cats and dogs were recruited to heal soldiers w...

Kaisa Kamenik In Mike Nichols 1967 cult film „The Graduate“, Dustin Hoffman character Benjamin Braddock, who has just graduated from college, is facing basically same questions as posed in the title of this essay. Report on the students` exercise preference

To: Mr Jones, sports centre manager From: Mari Mets Subject: Report on the students' exercise preferences Date: 3rd April 2017 Introduction The aim of this report is to describe the changes in the students' exercise preferences, speculate on the reasons for the shifts and make recommendations for the sports centre on which facilities and training opportunities to include in the future. Female students Yoga and Pilates have remained the most popular exercise routines among the young women, who are acquiring education. From 2010 to 2015, the percentage of female students, who chose one of these two training programs, stayed at 45%. The reason for the lack of shift might be that the interests of the young women, who are acquiring education and practicing yoga or Pilates, have not changed. Male students Weightlifting has remained the most popular exercise routine among the young men, who are acquiring education. From 2010 to 2015, the pe...

Why did Russian civil war breake out in 1918

Why did Russian civil war breake out in 1918? The Russian Civil War was to tear Russia apart for three years, between 1918 and 1921. The civil war occurred because after November 1917, many groups had formed that opposed Lenin's Bolsheviks. These groups included monarchists, militarists, and, for a short time, foreign nations. Collectively, they were known as the Whites while the Bolsheviks were known as the Reds. But why did it really breake out? There were three reasons why Civil War broke out in Russia in 1918.The first reason was that there was bound to be a challenge to the Bolsheviks, who had seized power by a surprise coup. After 1918, their political opponents tried to reverse it. The Bolsheviks had many enemies. One group who wanted to destroy the Bolsheviks were the Social Revolutionaries. At first, they had supported the November Revolution. Elections had been held in November 1917 for a new government, ...
