The story was 130 pages long. The book was first published in 1942 but my version was published in 1983 by Moscow Vyssaja Skola. The genre of the book is mystery novel. The story takes placed in an imaginary English village St Mary Mead where the body was found and the fashionable seaside resort Danemouth because most of the suspects were staying there at the Majestic Hotel. St Mary Mead seems to be a nice quiet village where strange things happen once in a while. Very different people live there from different social standings. And Miss Marple knows them all very well, like it's usual for a small village. The story takes place in the 1940's I think. The date is not mentioned in the book but I assume it is around 40's because of the description and the book was published in 1942. There is a murder in St Mary Mead and it's a hard one to solve but Miss Marple has the ability to overcome any problem and this time is no exception.

The reason why I decided to read exactly this book was that I found the plot introductory quite interesting and as I started reading I realised I was right. I found it quite humorous book, written in the third person and set in Havana, Cuba. The story is quite easy to follow. The novel was written right before the American embargo and the Cuba missile crisis of the 1960's, so the author was quite surely influenced by the political events at that time and created his own vision of the future. The main character of this book is Jim Wormlod, who is a vacuum cleaner salesman, but is offered a job in the British secret service by Hawthorne. He has to spy on Cuba for England. Jim lives with his daughter Milly, because his wife had left them for another man. Milly is quite demanding, having many wishes and because ebeing in lack of money,Jim decides to take the job offer

Evaluation I think that the writing was effective and definately the author achieved his purpose. Many people told me before reading this book, that they have never read a better book in their life. After first couple of chapters I thought we just have different tastes in books, as I usually do have, but the book was quite interesting in the end. That might be true, although I did not pick any Greek up in Greece but that might have been because they spoke so damn fast that I could not tell if it was a word or an entire sentence. The first foreign language I learned was Russian. Considering I was ten when Estonia became a Republic, it makes sense. We began studying Russian in first grade, though it was simplified – "koška" instead of "kot", "medvešonok" instead of "medved", "saichik" etc. Did not make much sense and we mostly played some games in Russian (Tare-tareke etc).
