Tartu

Tartu Located in the South of Estonia, Tartu is one of Estonia's most beautiful cities. I chose to write about Tartu, because with its beautiful green parks and spectacular culture, it's the perfect holiday destination. There are many really beautiful buildings that have been restored after World War II. Most of them are in the heart of the city. There's also a place called the Dome Hill. It's a hill where you can see various monuments and there are also the ruins of the Dome Church. Currently, the building is occupied by a history museum and the visitors can use an observation platform on the roof and enjoy a picturesque view of the city. By the Dome Hill there's the main building of the University of Tartu. It's very big and beautiful. There are several museums, but also some theatres and cinemas. Tartu has many cafés in the centre of the city, for example café Pier...

Referaat, vask

Vask Vask oli üks esimesi inimkonna poolt enim kasutatavaid metalle, kuna seda leidus kergesti maagist ja sellel on üsna madal sulamistemperatuur. Esimest korda avastati ja kasutati vaske umbes 10, 000 aastat tagasi. Oma suure kasutamise ajaloo on saanud vask pronksi sulami leiutamisest, milleks kasutati vase ja tina sulamit. Sellest hiljem valmistati relvi, ehteid, raha jne. Vaske leidub looduses peamiselt siiski ühenditena, näiteks sulfiidina või rohelise malahhiidina. Tähtsamad vase leiukohad on Escondida- Tšiilis ja Cananea-Mehhikos. Vaske toodetakse sulfiidsetest maakides, mis sisaldavad vasepüriiti. Maak rikastatakse, sulatatakse vasekiviks ja hiljem põletatakse sellest välja kahjulikud lisandid. 10 kõige suurimat vaske tootvat riiki on: Tšiili, Hiina, Peruu, Ameerika Ühendriigid, Demokraatlik Vabariik Kongo, Austraalia, Venemaa, Zambia, Kanada ja Mehhiko. Puhtal kujul kasutatakse vaske igapäeva e...

Rights and liberties

Kertu Mölder AÜSR1 We all have rights and liberties. In Estonia they are written in the Consitution of Estonia, the fundamental law of the Republic of Estonia. In Estonia laws are declared by the President of Estonia in Riigi Teataja. When we speak about rights then for exapmle in Estonia we all have rights to love, nobody can take it from us. We all have rights to free self-realisation and self-expression. We can choose our area of activity, profession and position of employment. When we talk about education then I can say, we all have right to learn in school and to become smart and educated people. When we speak about liberties then example civil liberties are voted in European Parliament election when you are eightteen and over, you can belong to unions, then you can apply for legislative council. Also, when you are fourty and over you can run for government president. In Estonia there are a balanced code of laws. They all rely ...

Too much money is being spent on preserving the old part of town

Most of the major national and international companies are headquartered near the Old Town. Since the economy is not in a good shape right now the question of financing the old parts of Tallinn has been raised. Many people claim that spending money on preserving the old parts of Tallinn is not the best idea when people are having hard times. They are having trouble with making money in the first place. Also there are other fields, which are more important than the Old Town, such as education that need to be financed. Nevertheless, the Old Town is very important to tourism. For this reason money spent on old parts of Tallinn is not money wasted. Tourism is extremely important in todays economy and the Old Town of Tallinn is the main Estonian tourist attraction. It even became a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site and it is often referred to as the medieval pearl of Europe. I believe that conserving old parts of Tallinn is absolutely justified. The Old Town is truly

Tourism - good or bad

Tourism-good or bad ? Nowadays in many countries, tourism is one of the fastest growing industries and it can bring enormous advantages to countries, especially poor ones. It may seem that tourism bring only benefits, but further consideration shows that it also has disadvantages. To start with, tourism offers many benefits. Tourists spend money on local goods and services ,so the area can get much money to develop the other essential public services, for example education and health. Also tourism services such as roads, bars, hotels, restaurants and other leisure facilities are built. Thanks to it, local people can get more jobs. Finally, tourism allows both the tourist and the local community a chance to experience other cultures. However, tourism can pose a threat to the natural environment and so may have bad effect on a country's wildlife. Tourists cause pollution ...

invented the world's first practical electron microscope. Their first device magnified objects to 7,000 times their original size. Electron microscopes work by focussing a beam of electrons, rather than a beam of light. Hillier spent many years refining the electron microscope and marketing it to research laboratories and universities, receiving a total of 41 patents for devices and processes. After retiring from work in 1977, Dr. Hillier went to the Third World and promoted science and education. They had two sons: James Robert Hillier and William Wynship Hillier. James Hillier was also the the founder of James Hillier Foundation, which awards scholarships to promising science students in his hometown of Brantford. Edulugude võistlus

I totally disagree with this statement. There are just other values in a town with a small population density. Values concerning family life are coming more forth, career and such kind of personal ambitions are kept in the backround. Also it is often mentioned that making a successful career in a small town is largely impossible, because of the lack of different resources and opportunities. By these it is commonly ment a uncompetitive education and few opportunities to develop extracurricular activities. In my opinion it is again a misunderstanding. I am at the moment eighteen years old and I have spent all my life in a beautiful small town called Tartu. From the early age I have been interested in photography and the world in general. Photography is a pretty expensive hobby and starting with it was quite difficult in the beginning. I had to take photographs with really

What is expected of a graduate of the 21st century

education is to create men who are capable of doing new things, not simply of repeating what other generations have done. I think that applies to university graduates very well and what should be expected from them. University can open a door for you but you must enter yourself. This saying also means that universities has to be modern and always develop new learning methods. I think that one very good addition to university education nowadays is problem based learning. This method brings students so much closer to real life situations like playing out courtroom scenes etc. These type of solutions should be the face of 21th century university – it is vital for students to get some practise and not only learn theoretical aspects. Lots of practise in studying days also ensures many advantages and experience for future jobs. What I primarly mean in this paragraph is that universities should be creative and let the

Poverty in World

A lack of material wealth does not necessarily mean that one is deprived. A strong economy in a developed nation doesn't mean much when a significant percentage (even a majority) of the population is struggling to survive. Politics have led to dire conditions in many poorer nations. In many cases, international political interests have led to a diversion of available resources from domestic needs to western markets. This has resulted in a lack of basic access to food, water, health, education and other important social services. This is a major obstacle to equitable development. Poverty has also been described as the number one health problem for many poor nations as they do not have the resources to meet the growing needs. But poverty is not restricted just to developing countries. Industrialized nations are also seeing a sharp increase in poverty. While the current form of globalization is resulting in additional wealth, the disparities are sharp

What qualities should, should not a teacher have

What qualities should/should not a teacher have The quality of the education of young people depends on the work of the teacher, who is largely responsible for the exchange of knowledge and skills for young people from an early age up to adulthood. What characteristics must a teacher have in order to do their job as well as possible, so that young adults become enough to start their own life? The teacher must have an advanced level of knowledge in their field. The more qualified the teacher is the better and more clearly he knows how to convey his material for students

Woman and management

Woman and management Historically, women were known as the fairer sex. Usually, they had to be at home and take care of children. If their family had the means, they normally received a basic education in the arts, etiquette, manners and aspects of running a household. Women did not have any opportunity to say a word in any kind of business. They were only in a subordinate position. As the saying goes- behind every great man there is a great woman. I think that it was pretty fair that women were only at home in action with children at this time, because business were not so developed as the whole society. Good sence of authority,

Books Today and Tomorrow

On the other hand the lifestyle of ours has gotten tremendously busy and some do not find the time to just sit back and relax by reading. With the development of technology, people will become more lazier which may result in the lack of reading. Printed books will be replaced with e-books, print media with social media and so on. They feel that books are unnecessary, all the information needed and more is available online. Furthermore we do not value education and intellectuality much anymore, instead we value more superficial things such as entertainment. Reading is not only amusing and entertaining but it also broadens the ming and keeps the brain functioning. It is a tremendous shame that people read less books time by time.

Children while young

These reasons are medical but there are also oher reasons why people should have children while being young. The most imortant reason is that our age deifference would not be so big. It would help to understand the other generation better and have better ralations in family. Of course there are very youthful parents despite of their high age but still let´s think about this way that we could see our children growing, having education, getting married and so on. We could miss it all not having children while being young.

Nothing can be done to prevent crime

Unfortunately, we are prone to make bad choices and reap undesirable outcomes. What in future can make more problem, what was. The difference is that most of us have some self-control, but in time of need human beings can change drastically their personality. That is why we can not prevent all crimes every time or build a perfect society: because we are still plain humans. But we can improve on an environment by providing a higher level of education and security. In doing so, there will be a decrease in the attempts of crimes, since a higher level of social development was properly provided. Our world is well known by having a high level of poverty and all sorts of crimes. This is a consequence of bad governments that hav not provided the least welfare throughout the centuries. So, i agree with that statement. However, in my opinion our goverment has been doing some progress regarding crime prevention and social development.

A formal letter to a newspaper

USA Today Jõe tänav 1 7950 Jones Branch Drive Rapla 79520 McLean, VA 22108 Estonia USA 9th September 2009 Dear Sir/Madam, I am writing with regard to the article 'Txting away ur education' in The Forum column. I have to admit that I was truly inspired by it! I acknowledge the problem of students sending too many text messages and hardly paying any attention at school. First, I have to agree with the argument about declaring war on texting as a new way to be in contact with fellow students over the break, class or other activity. Also, it is important to point out the fact that, according to the Nielsen Co., teens over the country were in the year 2009 sending at least 80 texts a day on average...

It is situated on the northern coast of the country, on the banks of the Gulf of Finland, in north-western Estonia. Tallinn is the location of many institutions of higher education and science. Historically, the city has been attacked, sacked, razed and pillaged on numerous occasions. Although extensively bombed by Soviet airforces during the latter stages of World War II, much of the medieval Old Town still retains its charm. A business student´s insight into life in Estonia

Positive side is that we have unique nature and old town. Also in Estonia there are lower prices than neighboring Scandinavian countries. Estonians are successful in creating different e-government solutions. We have e-school, e- voting and e-stores. Also the Skype is partly invented by estonians. A lot of talented people come from Estonia. Interesting about Estonia is that, although it is very small coutry it is still really popular among foreign stuents. It means that we have good education system. Consequently we can say that estonians are tolerant and foreign students feel comfortabe while living Estonia. Negative side is unemployment. It has decreased compared with the last year, but it is still too high. Also a lot of young people are unemployed. It might be caused by the economical crisis, which stopped in fall 2010. Now our economy has risen and situatsion is going to be better. In conclusion i would like to say that life in Estonia is good. The economy is not in a bad
