English as a Global Language

...24 WORK CITED……………………………………………………………………………....25 APPENDIX………………………………………………………………………………….26 2 INTRODUCTION Today more and more disputes are caused by the enormous spread of the English language throughout the world. Some scholars claim that it has already become the first global language. And this statement isn't far from truth. But what does it mean to say that a language is a global language? Why is English the language which is usually cited in this connection? How did the situation arise? And could it change? Or is it the case that, once a language becomes a global language, it is there for ever? [1, pg.2] These are fascinating questions to explore, whether your first language is English or not

Challenges of childrens participation A Case Study of active citizenship in Cadle Primary School

However, the adoption of the U.N Convention of the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) in 1989 was the initial legally binding law that for the first time, granted children the recognition as worthy individuals with rights of their own. 3 The UNCRC has been considered as one of the most innovative international treaties ever ratified. It laid the foundation for the potential change of attitude and perception of children as primarily objects of the adult world. The recognition of children by the UNCRC as respected individuals with rights of their own has given impetus to a significant field of academic study. Since then, there has been increasing sociological interest in children which has provided a new perspective around the idea of children as social actors, and that childhood is not a natural phenomenon but a social 4 construct. It is now recognised that childhood is a culturally constructed phenomenon

Epistemologically, it shares with STE the quantification myth, i.e. that everything relevant can be quantified; qualitative judgments are not necessary. It is popularly denoted by concepts such as project management, flat hierarchies, customer orientation, abolition of career civil service, depolitization, total quality management, and contracting-out. NPM comes from Anglo-America, and it was strongly pushed by most of the International Finance Institutions (IFI's) such as the World Bank and the IMF. It originates from the 1980s with their dominance of neo-liberal governments (especially Thatcher and Reagan) and the perceived crisis of the Welfare state, but it came to full fruition in the early 1990s. Social problems in England - tekst

1) 1.Racism 2. Crime 3. Unemployment 4. Alcohol/Drug abuse 5. Economic recession 6. Poverty 7. Riots 2) Racism is a common problem in many countries and in Englad it is present because there are many immigrants from all over the world. As it is a widespread social problem it's also one of the worst ones, because the hatred directed to different races or even nationalities makes the foreign people feel bad and also to hate the locals. This brings up many conflicts like the bombings in 2005 (when 4 islamic suicide bombers killed thmeselves and 52 civilians), but usually the conflicts are smaller, like brawls between different ethnic groups or mockery and insults.
