are taken when drunk, which is a very serious indicator, because a lot of people keep their profiles open to everyone whithout thinking who might see them. For example, most of the companies do background check before hiring and if your profile is open, your new boss will be able to see it and maybe decides that you are incompetent for the job. Recent reseaches show that Facebook is very addictive. More than 50 percent of active users log on any given day. Psychologists have introduced a diagnosis called FAD (Facebook Addiction Disorder)- there are an estimated 350 million around the world, who have admitted of being addicted to Facebook. But it was only a matter of time before large numbers fell like prey to the lures of a 24/7 social network with so many wonderful things to offer -a home among friends and shared applications like games, quizzes, personality-type "tests", awards and gifts, not to mention sharing laughs and creative feedback via photos,

Dreams as Cognition: Dreams reflect what we know, what we have experienced, remembered, thought about- activities psychologists call 'cognition'. Components of the dream were surely drawn from dreamer's own knowledge, which contains info about flying or tea or car crash etc. Some psychologists have founded: people who remember more of their dreams are more likely to have better and sharper visual mental images in their waking life; perhaps their dreams are more memorable becaus they are experienced in a more vivid pictorial form.
2014 Encoding, Storage, and Retrieval of Memory. Encoding refers to the process by which information is initially recorded in a form usable to memory. Memory specialists speak of storage, the maintenance of material saved in the memory system. If the material is not stored adequately, it can not be recalled later. Memory also depends on one last process: retrieval. In retrieval, material in memory storage is located, brought into awareness, and utilized. In sum, psychologists consider memory as the process by which we encode, store, and retrieve information. Each of three parts of this definition – encoding, storage, and retrieval – represents a different process. Forgetting unnecessary information is as essential to the proper functioning of memory as is remembering material. Sensory Memory. The term “sensory memory” encompasses several types of sensory memories, each related to a different source of information. There is iconic memory, which

reported seeing hallucinations. They found that serotonin levels had increased in their brains. Serotonin activated the hypothalamus and the frontal cortex resulting in hallucinations. They concluded from this study that sensory deprivation triggered the release of serotonin, which actually altered the way the monks experienced the world. The application of such research has improved the lives of many people, because drugs have been developed stimulating or blocking certain neurotransmitters. Psychologists however, consider the role of neurotransmitters on behavior, but do not solely rely on it to explain behavior. Brain technology has developed rapidly during the past century and is now used extensively in neuropsychology because it provides an opportunity to study the active brain. EEG Prints out brainwaves, registers patterns of voltage change in the brain. PET scan monitors radioactive glucose metabolism in brain. Produces colored maps of brain activity. Can record ongoing activity

quest stated in a certain way will be rejected, but a request that asks for the same favor in a slightly different fashion will be successful. So in my role as an experimental social psychologist, I began to research the psychology of compliance. At first the research took the form of experiments per- formed, for the most part, in my laboratory and on college students. I wanted to find out which psychological principles influenced the tendency to comply with a request. Right now, psychologists know quite a bit about these principles-what they are and how they work. I have characterized such principles as weapons of in- fluence and will be discussing some of the most important of them in this book. After a time, though, I began to realize that the experimental work, while nec- essary, wasn't enough. It didn't allow me to judge the importance of the principles in the world beyond the psychology building and the campus where I was examin- ing them

He begins to feel that he is not valuable or lovable. He is not worth very much. He must therefore be worthless. Almost all personality problems in adolescence and adult- hood are rooted in what psychologists refer to as love withheld. The child needs love like roses need rain. When children feel unloved, they feel unsafe and insecure. They think, “I’m not good enough.” They begin to engage in compensatory behaviors to make up for this inner anxiety. This sense of love deprivation is manifested in misbehavior, personality problems, bursts of anger, ccc_tracy_1_1-17.qxd 6/23/03 2:46 PM Page 4

K., German, French, Portuguese, Italian, Icelandic, etc.) it has radiated to greater Hollywood, the world community of storytellers. Filmmakers and students from many countries have reported their interest in the Hero's Journey idea and their appreciation for the book as a practical guide for designing and troubleshooting stories. The Writer's Journey, meanwhile, has been put to work in many ways, not only by writers in many forms and genres, but by teachers, psychologists, advertising executives, prison counselors, video game designers, and scholars of myth and pop culture. I am convinced the principles of the Hero's Journey have had a deep influ ence over the shaping of stories in the past and will reach even deeper in the future as more storytellers become consciously aware of them. Joseph Campbell's great accomplishment was to articulate clearly something that had been there all along — the life principles embedded in the structure of stories
Here is an example. SSRI antidepressant drugs cause sexual side-e ects fairly commonly, including anorgasmia. We should be clear (and I'm trying to phrase this as neutrally as possible): I really enjoy the sensation of orgasm. It's important to me, and everything I experience in the world tells me that this sensation is important to other people, too. Wars have been fought, essentially, for the sensation of orgasm. There are evolutionary psychologists who would try to persuade you that the entirety of human culture and language is driven, in large part, by the pursuit of the sensation of orgasm. Losing it seems like an important side-effect to ask about. And yet, various studies have shown that the reported prevalence of anorgasmia in patients taking SSRI drugs varies between 2 per cent and 73 per cent, depending primarily on how you ask: a casual, open-ended question about side-e ects, for example, or a careful and detailed enquiry
