That is why he didn't go to school when the other children did, so his parents had to teach him. He liked mathematics and was fond of making things, so his father gave him some tools. James liked to take his toys to pieces and build new things to his own design. At the age of eighteen he decided to become a professional instrument maker. It was very hard to find a teacher. James Watt James Watt was born in Greenock on January 19 in 1736, the son of a ship's chandler. He worked in his father's shop and he developed an interest in trying to make things "work like clockwork". In his late teens he went to London to learn to be a "mathematical and philosophical instrument maker", and when he returned to Glasgow he got a job making instruments with Glasgow University, who gave him a place where to live and a workshop.

TOPIC 8 The greatest poet of Scotland Robert Burns is loved by all Scotsmen as their greatest poet. The future poet was fortunate in his father who was understanding, friendly and fearless man. So it was probably from him that the poet inherited his great love and undrestanding of people. From his mother he, too, learned something that was to be value to him. His mother often sang the old songs and ballads of the countryside. Although William Burns, Robert´s father, was a poor peasant, he was man who valued knowledge.
