What is the difference between English as a Second Language, English as a Foreign Language and English for Specific Purposes? Give examples of situations where they are used. English as a Second Language (ESL or TESL) is a traditional term for the use or study of the English language by non-native speakers in an English-speaking environment. That environment may be a country in which English is the mother tongue (e.g., Australia, the U.S.) or one in which English has an established role (e.g., India, Nigeria) English as a foreign language A traditional term for the use or study of the English language by non-native speakers in countries where English is generally not a local medium of communication. English for specific purposes - a sphere of teaching English language including Business English, Technical English, Scientific English, English for medical professionals, English for waiters, English for tourism, English for Art Purposes, etc 4

because America has exported them to other countries. Nowadays ofcourse spreads American culture the Internet and TV. Pop culture is Heavily influenced by mass media (at least from the early 20th century on) and perpetuated by that culture's vernacular language, this collection of ideas permeates the everyday lives of the society. America's pop culture is widely spread into Europe, but not very much into the East countries, because India has Bollywood and it is as huge as Hollywood. Of course America has stolen some ideas from other countries, like Japan, where there are very many TV shows and comedy shows. Pop culture is meant for the masses. Pop music is a wide variety of styles which are with good rhythm and meaningful lyrics so it must be for big masses. The most movies we have watched are made in Hollywood, so about 90% of them are the American culture spreaders. We get our slang words from the movies or from the songs
