HISTORY

Legend sais, that Montagu had a gambling problem that led him to spend hours at the card table. During a very long game,  he instructed a cook to prepare his food in such way that it would not interfere with his game. the cook presented him with sliced meat between two pieces of toast. This meal could be eaten with one hand, leaving the other free to continue

Open sandwiches When you order a sandwich, don’t be surprised if it involves just a single slice of bread. The concept of open sandwiches dates back to the 15th century when thick slabs of bread were used as plates. In Sweden, the shrimp sandwich (räksmörgås) remains the option fit for a king. Piled high with a mix of boiled egg slices, lettuce, tomato and cucumber, this seafood snack is often topped with creamy blended with dill sprigs and roe. Pickled herring — center of the smorgasbord

New York City

Driving in central New York is only for the daring, so people often take one of the famous yellow taxis instead. There are about 12 000 of them in the city. Another way to get around overground is to take a bus. New York's express buses do not make many stops, so they go much faster than regular buses but they still cannot avoid the jams. New York's first subway line opened in 1904. Now the system has 469 stations and is used by over three million people every day. There are two types of subway train. Local trains stop at station. Express trains go faster and miss out some stations. New York City, especially Manhattan, is a shopper's paradise. There are over 30 department stores in New York. Among them is Macy's, the world's largest. It opened on Broadway in 1858, where it still stands. Clothes, cosmetics and other goods are sold on its ten floors. Many New York stores specialize in clothes. Designers suck as Christian Dior have shops on and around Fifth and Madison Avenues.
