The Greenhouse Effects

The Greenhouse Effect: Scientists are sure about the greenhouse effect. They know that greenhouse gases make the Earth warmer by trapping energy in the atmosphere. Climate Change: Climate is the long-term average of a region's weather events lumped together. For example, it's possible that a winter day in Buffalo, New York, could be sunny and mild, but the average weather the climate tells us that Buffalo's winters will mainly be cold and include snow and rain. Climate change represents a change in these long-term weather patterns. They can become warmer or colder

rain and its dangerous effects. The levels of acid rain vary from region to region. In Third World nations without pollution restrictions, acid rain tends to be very high. In EasternEurope, China, and the Soviet Union, acid rain levels have also risen greatly. However, because acid rain can move about so easily, the problem is definitely a global one. Global warming Global warming, also known as the greenhouse effect, immediately received international attention. Scientists, environmentalists, and governments around the world took an interest in the subject. Global warming is called the greenhouse effect because the gases that are gathering above the earth make the planet comparable to a greenhouse. By trapping heat near the surface of the earth, the greenhouse effect is warming the planet and threatening the environment. Many scientists criticized Mr

Global Warming

Global Warming One of the biggest issues our planet and its inhabitants are facing nowadays is global warming. Global warming, also often referred to as the greenhouse effect, has not always been a problem. However, over the last centuries, since the Industrial Revolution things have changed. Polar regions are melting, species are dying, climate zones are shifting, migration patterns for animals such as polar bears and birds are being disrupted our world as we know it is changing. Some scientists believe that the climate will reach a tipping point, a point at which even a tiny additional increase would throw the system into violent change.

place. Some of these machines use electricity, while others, like automobiles, use the energy stored in substances such as gasoline. Renewable energy is energy generated from natural resources such as sunlight, wind, rain, tides, and geothermal heat, which are renewable. Renewable energy uses natural resources that can be replaced or "renewed" without harming the environment and does not contribute to the greenhouse effect and global warming. Non-renewable energy Non-renewable energy comes from sources that can't be replenished in a short period of time. We get most of our energy from nonrenewable energy sources, which include fossil fuels such as oil, natural gas, coal and from nuclear energy. Unfortunately, burning fossil fuels produces greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide and methane which may cause global warming. Wind energy is the world's fastest growing energy technology.

IPCC summary

Answers for the IPCC Summary. 1.Radiative forcing is a measure of the influence that a factor has in altering the balance of incoming and outgoing energy in the Earth-atmosphere system and is an index of the importance of the factor as a potential climate change mechanism. 2.The three main things that alter the energy balance of the climate system are the changes in the atmospheric abundance of greenhouse gases and aerosols, in solar radiation and in land surface properties. 3.The two sources for the increased concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere are production, distribution and consumption of fossil fuels and as a by-product from cement production. 4.The two main sources of methane pollution are agriculture and fossil fuel use. 5.Volcanic aerosols are not included to the list because of their episodic nature. 6.The world's oceans absorb more than 80% of heat. 7

protection of the environment. To protect the environment, waste management and recycling are crucial. When we recycle, used materials are converted into new products, reducing the need to consume natural resources. If used materials are not recycled, new products are made by extracting fresh, raw material from the Earth, through mining and forestry. Recycling helps conserve important raw materials and protects natural habitats for the future. As recycling saves energy it also reduces greenhouse gas emissions, which helps to tackle climate change. I see this as a more sufficient way compared to saving electricity for example (but which, of course, is important too), for it’s generally easier to just recycle. It's really easy to carelessly waste energy–– leaving a light bulb on here and there, keeping the air conditioning on at home when you're out at work or school all day etc. Although it may not be obvious, there is a connection between energy use and the environment

More than 90% certain that most of global warming was being caused by increasing concentrations of greenhouse gases produced by human activities. In 2010 that finding was recognized by the national science academies of all major industrialized nations. Affirming these findings in 2013, the IPCC stated that the largest driver of global warming is carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from fossil fuel combustion, cement production, and land use changes such as deforestation. Wood, in particular the shell of wood cells, consists mainly from cellulose, lignin and hemicellulose. Due to the high carbon and hydrogen content, the lignin has higher calorific value than cellulose and hemicellulose. What is solar power? Solar power is energy that comes from the sun. The sunlight gives off energy as heat. Solar power is a renewable source of energy. How does solar power work? Solar panels are used to collect sunlight. Solar panels are made up of photovoltaic cells that convert the sunlight into energy. Why do we need it? How does it lead to better health? Solar power is source of clean energy. It does not produce pollution or greenhouse gases or carbon compounds. Solar power would be a lot safer for the environment and a lot better for the health of people. What would happen if we don't use solar power? If we don't start using solar power, we would use oil and coal. They produce pollution and will cause millions of people to suffer from respiratory related problems. The Earth's climate has been changing constantly over its history. Once, all climate change occurred naturally, but recently, people have also started altering the climate. We are sending more and more greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. The average global temperature has increased by about 0.5 °C over the past century. Scientist expect it to increase up to an additional 3 °C over the next on 100 years. People who are living in cold places may have a chance to grow new crops if the climate gets warmer. At the same time in some parts of the world, people won't be able to grow the food they need. Global warming will make the sea level higher because it'll make the glaciers melt.

Windpower

was built in Scotland in 1887 to power the lighting in the cottage, thus making it the first house in the world to have its electricity supplied by wind power. During the Second World War, small wind generators were to recharge submarine batteries. In the 1990s, wind power became more important, because fossil fuels pollute the atmosphere and humanity needed alternative fuels. That's because wind power is so necessary. Wind power is also renewable energy and it doesn't cause greenhouse gases. Building windmills is actually quite expensive and they need repairing or replacing about every 12-15 years. And strong winds can also break the wind turbines. Considering these things the wind power cost more than the energy from fossil fuels. Also the turbines are unpleasant to look at and if you live near the wind farms then they make a bit noise. Wind farms take a lot of space which you can use for farming. And when the wind doesn't blow then the turbines can't make energy.

The Crucial Problems of the World

There are many problems in the world right at this time. One of the biggest and maybe the one which people talk about the most is the waste and recycling problem. As we all know, humankind is producing more waist than we can handle, reproduce and recycle. Even in here, Estonia, people are thinking of building a nuclear power station, because fossil fuel is soon depleted. The other problem, a little bit connected to the first one, is the greenhouse effect. The light from the Sun reaches us and after that the light reflexes from the Earth's surface back to the space, but thanks to the pollution, it absorbs and reflexes back to us again, causing global warming. The third problem is the fastly growing population. There are now more than 7 milliard people in the world and the number is still getting bigger. That leads us to the overcrowded cities, poverty and hunger.

exhausting. Many parents have lost their jobs because of the virus. And still there are people who won’t listen to the government rules and spread the virus further. Secondly, global warming is increasing at an alarming rate with the progress in technology. In recent years, industrialization and extensive use of automobiles have been observed, and these developments have significantly raised the levels of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Moreover, these gases like carbon dioxide and methane trap the sunlight and elevate the temperature of the earth. This change in temperature is not only responsible for global warming but also other associated problems of climate change and air pollution. In conclusion, to ensure positive contributions and to minimize risks to the planet, relying on govenment alone will not lead to the desired results. Each person's effort can effectively help protect the environment

We have factories that let their waste run into rivers. One of the biggest problems in Estonia is air pollution. Our air is polluted by exhaust fumes, because today we have a lot of cars, buses and other machines. In 2009 we had 407 cars to thousand inhabitants, which is lower than European Union average, but this number is still high. Because cars produce gases that contain carbon dioxide. This carbon dioxide in the air causes global warming, which is the result of the greenhouse effect. Tallinn wants to fight against it by offering public transportation for free, to Tallinn citizen. So that people would use more public transportation than their own car. Furthermore, it will change our climate. In addition our air is polluted by hydrogen sulfide from plants and factors (Especially in Kohtla- Järve and Maardu). Other big environment problem is garbage. Huge amount of waste is produced every day and it is all because of overconsumption

Some of the mechanisms face criticism for not actually leading to a reduction in emissions, for example. Global Warming and Population · It seems there has been a recent interest in associating climate change/global warming with "over population" and that countries such as China and India have to do more to help contain global warming. · Yet rich countries have a lot to do themselves. There were agreed reasons why developing countries were exempt from initial greenhouse gas emission targets: it was the emissions from rich countries that accumulated in the atmosphere for so long to trigger climate change. animal feed would especially impact meat. Soybeans cultivation can also result in deforestation due to land-use changes. A study (Lapola et al., 2009) concluded that in the future, soybean production is likely to be a cause of a direct deforestation in Amazon. It will also be responsible for 60% of indirect deforestation as rangelands will be moved to Amazon region due to the competition for land in other areas (Lapola et al.,2009). 4. Other sustainability concerns 4.1. Greenhouse gas (GHG) balance One of the advantages for adopting biofuels is the offsetting of carbon in the production process. Biofuels are carbon neutral when their combustion doesn't release any more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, than was sequestered by the plant through photosynthesis (Rajagopal, Zilberman, 2007). Nevertheless, there are many uncertainties around the biofuels' carbon neutrality. In the production process, biofuel require significant amounts of energy for

structure and composition of savannas worldwide, and have already done so in many areas through a numbers of processes including altering the fire regime, increasing grazing pressure, competing with native vegetation and occupying previously vacant ecological niches. Climate change There exists the possibility that human induced climate change in the form of the greenhouse effect may result in an alteration of the structure and function of savannas. Some authors have suggested that savannas and grasslands may become even more susceptible to woody plant encroachment as a result of greenhouse induced climate change. A recent case described involved a savanna increasing its range at the expense of forest in response to climate variation, and potential exists for similar rapid, dramatic shifts in vegetation distribution as a result of global climate change,

supply water, food, energy and housing to their growing populations, which will have major repercussions for public health, security measures and economic growth. Increased Global Warming and Climate Change • According to the Center for Biological Diversity, "The largest single threat to the ecology and biodiversity of the planet in the decades to come will be global climate disruption due to the buildup of human-generated greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. • People around the world are beginning to address the problem by reducing their carbon footprint through less consumption and better technology. • But unsustainable human population growth can overwhelm those efforts, leading us to conclude that we not only need smaller footprints, but fewer feet. Elevated Crime Rate • As human overpopulation drives resources and basic necessities, such as food and water, to become scarcer,

Large scale wind farms are typically connected to the local electric power transmission network, with smaller turbines being used to provide electricity to isolated locations. Utility companies increasingly buy back surplus electricity produced by small domestic turbines. Wind energy as a power source is favoured by many environmentalists as an alternative to fossil fuels, as it is plentiful, renewable, widely distributed, clean, and produces lower greenhouse gas emissions, although the construction of wind farms is not universally welcomed due to their visual impact and other effects on the environment. The intermittency of wind seldom creates problems when using wind power to supply a low proportion of total demand. Where wind is to be used for a moderate fraction of demand, additional costs for compensation of intermittency are considered to be modest. Annual generation

their babies taken to be sold or kept as pets, or used for entertainment in wildlife tourism parks in countries such as Thailand and Bali. Deforestation for palm oil production also contributes significantly to climate change. The removal of the native forests often involves the burning of invaluable timber and remaining forest undergrowth, emitting immense quantities of smoke into the atmosphere and making Indonesia the third highest greenhouse gas emitter in the world. The establishment of oil palm plantations is often promoted as a way of bringing development to poor, rural regions of Borneo and Sumatra. In reality, the industry often has devastating impacts on the people in these areas. All too often, the government’s main interest in the country’s economy leads them to allow corporations to take the land owned by indigenous peoples for their own financial benefit.

Tundra

Mosquitoes can keep themselves from freezing by replacing the water in their bodies with a chemical called glycerol. It works like an antifreeze and allows them to survive under the snow during the winter. The marshy tundra is a great place for migratory birds like the harlequin duck, sandpipers and plovers. The tundra is one of Earth's three major carbon dioxide sinks. A carbon dioxide sink is a biomass that takes in more carbon dioxide than it releases. Carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas that contributes to global warming. During the short summer tundra's plants take in carbon dioxide, sunlight and water in the process of photosynthesis. Plants normally give off carbon dioxide after they die and decompose. But because of the short, cool summer and freezing winter temperatures, plants can't decompose. Remains of plants thousands of years old have been found in the tundra permafrost. In this way the tundra traps the carbon dioxide and removes it from the atmosphere

Moreover, there are no students who have both breakfast and school lunch, eat more than four slices of brown bread per day, and avoid fat. The surface of the Earth seems to be warming as a result of the greenhouse effect, created by a build-up of harmful gases in the atmosphere. Greenhouse gases can occur naturally; however, human activity add to the levels of these gases, causing more problems. Scientists estimate that the average air temperature could climb a few degrees Celsius in twenty years. Global warming will affect humans, animals, and even plants.
