king's baker. His maid failed to put out the ovens at the end of the night. Once it started, the fire spread quickly. The city was basically made out of wood and with September following on from the summer, the city was very dry. Strong winds fanned the flames. In 1665, during the plague, the king, Charles II, had fled in London. His plan, in 1666 (he stayed in London and took charge of the operation to save the city) was to create fire-breaks. The heat created by the fire was so great that the lead roof on the old St Paul's Cathedral melted. The actual human casualty rate was remarkably small with possibly only 5 people dying in this fire. The wind that had helped the fire spread, turned on itself and drove the flames back into what had already been burned. Therefore, the fire had nothing to ignite and the fire died out. The Great Fire had burned down 84 churches and the old St Paul's. However, it had also destroyed the filthy streets associated the Great Plague

The Great Guild/Suurgild

The Great Guild Liisbeth Kallakmaa The Great Guild Medieval Tallinn's social institutions were guilds and brotherhoods, whose main function was to provide members with social interactions and ensure their rights, but also played an important political and economic role. Tallinn had three important guilds - The Great Guild, St. Canute's Guild and St. Olaf's guild. The Great Guild was the youngest among them, founded in the 14th century, but soon became the biggest and most important. It was founded as an organization of the wealthiest merchants and shipowners. The name of the Great Guild was introduced in the late 15th century. There were close ties between the guild and the town rules: only members of the Great Guild had the right to belong to the town council and could be elected for mayor.

Vocabulary: to criticize - tasteless overcooked - ingredient - to invent - sauces - to disguise - spice herb - delicious - disappointing - to lend cuisine British Youth (2) Most 18 and 19 year-olds in Britain are quite independent people. English people say that children grow up more quickly now. Relationships within the British family are different now. Children have more freedom to make their own decisions. For example, children aged 13 may be employed part time in Great Britain. Age 15 is legally a "young person" not a "child". Age 16 is a school leaving age. They can leave home, drive a moped, marry with "parents' consent" buy beer. Age 17 can drive a car. Age 18 can vote, get married, drink in pubs. Education is a very important part in the life of British youth. One can't become an independent person without it. When time comes to enter a college a young Englishman chooses one far away from home. It is a necessary part of becoming adult.

Great Coastal Gate & Fat Margaret’s Tower

Great Coastal Gate & Fat Margaret's Tower Good morning ladies and gentlemens, and welcome to Great Coastal Gate and Fat Margaret's Tower. Before we begin the tour, I`d like to tell you a little about their history. The Great Coastal Gate (Suur Rannavärav) was the most important gate in Tallinn. It was built as a defence on the seaward side of Tallinn, but also to impress visitors coming in from the sea. In the Middle Ages the Great Coastal Gate was about 300 footsteps from the harbour. Legends say, that during storms, the waves reached the gate. . In the 16th century, a powerful cannon tower was built next to the Great Coastal Gate. It had 155 loopholes, diameter of 25 meters, and a height of about 20 meters. The tower was named Roosikrantsi, but as it was the stoutest tower in the Wall, people started to call it "Fat Margaret". Through history, the cannon tower has also served as a

Policy of 2016

Policy of 2016 Brexit, which means „British“ and „exit“ is referendum to the United Kingdom for leaving from the European Union. Referendum was held on 23rd June 2016. About 52% of the British people voted for leaving the EU. Brexit turned things in the EU upside down and people were amazed, especially people who voted for not leaving the EU. After voting and seeing the results, a lot of people who voted for leaving regretted it, because they just wanted to see if UK is capable to do something big like this. That is why UK is extending the Brexit, because most of the people do not want it. I think when Brexit is finally accomplished, then we will see what will happen and what will be changed in British people lives and also how it affects our lives. I think there would not be much changes, because the Unites Kingdom does not want to become people’s enemy. In November 8, 2016, the United States had 5...

I will try to change your mind by bringing out folowing reasons. Firstly, Film Club evenings take plave on Fridays 6-10 pm. Usually films are in English and quiz evenings about films are always very popular. Students like to relax and communicate with each other, it is also popular because watching films is not too physically demanding. Secondly, there are some problems but Film Club team is trying to solve them. The biggest problem is lack of money and because of that we would like to raise the entry fee. In addition to money problems DVD library films are all from ancient times and this collection has not been renewed since 1995. We are discussing about throwing a Film Fair, where people could donate nowadays films to us. Finally, last month ...

Books Today and Tomorrow Why is it important to read books? Do people read less books than in the past? Will people read less in the future? Books have always played a great role in our lives and reading them is highly important. It increases knowledge and expands vocabulary, which integrates to writing. Reading books makes a person more intelligent and it gives a different perspective. Nowadays people tend to read less books than they used to. The main reason for this catastrophy is the development of technology. People would rather watch moving pictures in the television than pick up an old book covered in dust. An Essay

An Essay There are many different education systems in the world. Basics are pretty much the same, but ofcourse depending of the culture, the differences and interests of educating people, are big. Children go to school at age five in Great Britain, which is too early in my opinion. Most children in Estonia start school at age seven, only some of them at age six. I think starting with school and competition, rivalry, witch always associates with schooling, too young, shortens the childhood and may affect negatively self-esteem, success and coping in the future. Children´s job is to play, it develops child the best, so I think anyone shouldn't forbit humans inherent needs. Children don´t have to become too fast to an adult.

Giza Pyramid

Great Pyramid of Giza The Great Pyramid of Giza (also called the Pyramid of Khufu and the Pyramid of Cheops) is the oldest and largest of the three pyramids in the Giza Necropolis and is the only one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World that survives mostly intact. Originally the Great Pyramid was covered by casing stones that formed a smooth outer surface, and what is seen today is the underlying core structure. Some of the casing stones that once covered the structure can still be seen around the base. There have been different scientific and alternative theories regarding the Great Pyramid's construction techniques. Most accepted construction theories are based on the idea that it was built by moving huge stones from a quarry and dragging and lifting them into place.

This is normal nowadays, because technolgy has been improved for example people can now communicate with each other much faster. It is great, although it can also harm people. Technology is serious responsibility- if people do not use an invention carefully, then it would end up the wrong way. The word „Leisure“ meaning changes in every 10 to 20 years. 50 years ago spare time was usually considered as that part of a day when people took a nap or children played with each other. Nowadays technological tools are killing off leisure time, especially for younger

My dear Rashmi, I received your letter a week ago. I am sorry, I could not write to you earlier as I was but of station. During the winter break, I had a chance to visit Kolkata along with my uncle. I hope, my description of the visit of that great city will be a source of pleasure for you. It was my first visit to Kolkata. We stayed there with a friend of my father. He was a kind host. He took me round some important places of the city. Kolkata is a very big place. The streets of Kolkata are full, of the crowds of people.
