The couple eventually begin an affair behind Marke's back which is later discovered by rivals of the king, weakening his position and setting off a new war with Ireland (abetted by the treacherous Lord Wictred). They often consider ending their relationship for the sake of their duty to Marke. In Tristan's final attempt to end the relationship, he and Isolde are caught in an awkward situation by all of the kings. The kings decide to part ways with Marke; the alliances are ruined and his wife and son-figure have betrayed him. Marke is at first angry but softens after hearing Isolde explain her history with Tristan and offers them the chance to run away together. Tristan chooses instead to stay in England and fight for his king. At the same time, Marke's nephew and Tristan's old friend Melot, angry at his uncle's long favouring of Tristan and tricked by Wictred's seeming support of him, shows Wictred an

The land was divided into small administrative areas shires counties which were ruled by sheriffs who worked for kings. The AngloSaxon brought a new but heavier plough to Britain which changed the land ownership and organisation. The land was now divided 23 big fields which were into long thin strips. The Middle Ages

Years 1154-1485 Henry I was the first unquestioned ruler. One of the most important kings in the Middle Ages. He had lands in Britain & France. Then the government was the monarch, a person, not a place. He had more land than any pervious king. After his marriage to Eleanor of Aquitaine, he also ruled the lands south of Anjou. His empire stretched from the Scottish border to the Pyrenees. England provided most of its wealth, but the heart was Anjou. Henry II began to regain royal control. During the war some barons had become very powerful. He pulled down some of their castles

Magna Carta and the decline of feudalism. The new agreement was an important symbol of political freedom. Hundreds of years later it was used by Parliament to protect themselves against the powerful king. It didn't give the freedom to most of the people living in England. It's only aim was to make sure that John and the kings after him wouldn't go beyond his rights as a feudal lord again. The nobles established a committee for that. Another sign of the chaning feudalism was the army. Kings started to pay for soldiers. The Power of the Kings of England. Church and state William had created Norman bishops and given them land for homage. As a result it wasn't sure whether the bishops should obey the king or the church and that led to trouble. Giza pyramids

Giza Pyramid The Pyramids of Egypt are the largest constructions ever built and they are one of the most potent and enduring symbols of Ancient Egyptian civilization. They were buildings, where the dead kings and queens were placed. The pyramids were built between 2575-2465 BC. There were used 2, 3 million blocks of stone to build the Great Pyramid. Each block of stone weighed 2.5 tons and about 20 men transported it. There was about 100,000 men working there and it took about 20 years to build the Giza pyramid. This is the formula of setting the blocks to the Giza Pyramid : 2,400,000 stones used ÷ 20 years ÷ 365 days per year ÷ 10 work hours per day ÷ 60 minutes per hour = 0

Jamaica muusika eripära

Jerryl rõhutada rütmis teist ja neljandat lööki. Sama tehnikat hakkas kasutama ka Rosco Gordon. Nii sündis ska. Aasta siis oli 1962. Tegelikult tehti sarnaste elementidega lugusid muidugi ka juba varem. Uus stiil tekkis väga õigeaegselt. Jamaica oli just saavutamas iseseisvust ja ska peegeldas töölisklassi uut optimismi. Ska muusikataktis tantsu hakati kutsuma nimega skanking. Laulutekstid võisid olla religioossed (Jimmy Kings - 'King Of Kings'), aga sageli ka romantilised (Delroy Wilson- 'Dancing Mood') või nonsens-teemadel (Eric Morris - 'Humpty Dumpty'). Lisaks lauldi sotsiaal-poliitilistel teemadel, eelkõige rude boy'dest. Rude boy'de liikumine hakkas silma paistma 1961 aastal. Skaga on neil pistmist vaid niipalju, et see oli nende lemmikmuusikaks (nagu ka enamikele teistest jamaikalastest). Tegemist oli töötute Kingstoni noormeestega, kes leidsid, et

Of monsters and men

Nanna Bryndís Hilmarsdóttir (born May 6, 1989) is the lead vocalist and guitarist, along with Ragnar "Raggi" órhallsson, of the Icelandic indie folk band Of Monsters and Men. Before Of Monsters and Men had been established, Nanna had a solo musical project called Songbird and was a video store clerk. The two sing about an epic battle between birds and bees, wolves running with the wind in the dark, and a whale--with a house on his back--who gives people rides across the ocean. Ghosts, mythic kings and magical monsters are more to Raggi's liking. He has filled the band's debut album, My Head Is an Animal, with such mystical things. Trumpeter, Ragnhildur Gunnarsdóttir, joined in the 2012 tour, and is simply a session player. The band has not commented on interest to eventually bring her into the band. Albums Debut album : My head is an animal , released: September 20, 2011 (Iceland): "Little Talks" "Dirty Paws" "Mountain Sound" "King And Lionheart"

Argumentative Essay

Argumentative essay Should monarchy be abolished in Britain?! The monarch's power over the nation has fallen so drastically that nowadays Britain's political system is described as constitutional monarchy. In fact the power is reduced so much that it is argued weather monarchy is needed at all. Firstly, kings and queens have been a part of Britain for centuries so the idea that royal families should no longer exist just does not seem right. I strongly believe that abolishing monarchy will cause more problems than it solves. The biggest impact will be the major fall in truism. Nearly everyone I know who have been to England have gone there to visit some part of the monarchy related attractions. Secondly, to my mind, monarchy is a symbol of military and political power. To this

Uluru ehk Ayers Rock

Ulurust 24 kilomeetrit läänes asub Kata Tjutamis, mis aborigeenide keeles tähendab «palju päid». Kokku kolmekümne kuuest punasest kuplist koosneva «mäestiku» vägevaim tipp on koguni 548 meetri kõrgune. See on samuti aborigeenide pühaks paigaks ning on moodustunud samuti tilliidist. Punaste kaljude lähedal asub ka kolmas kohustuslik vaatamisväärsus: vihmavee poolt miljonite aastate jooksul kalju sisse uuristatud Kings Canyon. Kuigi kõrbes sajab vaid mõnel päeval aastas, on vihmavesi siiski suutnud kaljusse jätta üle kilomeetri pikkuse ja paarisaja meetri sügavuse jälje. Kõrgel kanjoni serval jalgu kõlgutades on tunne justkui pilve piirilt alla vaadates. Uluru avastas esimese eurooplasena 1873. aastal William Gosse. Gosse nimetas kohalike pooolt Uluruks kutsutud kalju Lõuna-Austraalia tolleaegse juhi Sir Henry Ayers'i järgi Ayers Rock'iks. Referaadi koostas: Mattias Mutso

Prince William has one sibling, his brother Harry, who was born in 1984. William is said to get along well with everyone. He has always been popular with his classmates. His first school was Mrs. Mynor´s Nursey School in London, which he attended for two years. Then he spent three years at Wetherby School. At first William was a rambunctious little boy. Tuntuimad basskitarrid

Kallim, kuid väärtuslik, on Mehhiko Standard P-bass. Nad kasutavad odavamaid osi kui ameeriklased, kuid on oluliselt paremad kui Squier kitarrid. Joonis 18. Fender American Standard Precision Bass. Kasutatud Fenderi kitarrid on soodsad vaid juhul, kui nad on vähem kui 15 aastat vanad. Varasemate mudelite hinnad on hakanud järsult tõusma: 1970ndate mudelid on kallid, 1...

The Medieval period

The Medieval period The Middle Ages began in 1066, when the Normans defeated Anglo-saxons at the Battle of Hastings. Now England had a Norman king William the Conquer. Norman kings ruled in England less than 100 years, during that time Normans brought England closer to the mainstream of European society. William introduced the feudalism. Under it, land was divided among noble overlords, or barons. Knights pledged their wealth and services to the overlords. In return overlords let them use their land. At the lowest end of the social scale were the serfs, peasants bound to the land. In 1154 the Norman time was at the end. In 1154 Henry II started to reign

was invaded. It took several years to conquer the whole England. The Normans encircled London and the Anglo-Saxon nobility had to acknowledge William as the rightful king of England. In 1071 the invasion was completed. He divided the country into seven parts making one of it the royal domain. He built many castles all over England. William replaced the council of noblemen by a Great Council which consisted of bishops and barons. William had four sons, including the future kings William II and Henry I and six daughters. William I died of his injuries after falling from his horse while fighting in France in 1078.

Prantsuse kokad

Christmas in different countrys(jõulud erinevates maades)

She is a beautiful fair-haired girl with a shining crown of candles who visits each house with a basket of presents. In some homes a room is locked up before Christmas. On Christmas Eve the children go to bed but are woken up at midnight by their parents and taken down to the locked room. The door is opened and they see the tree all lit up, with piles of parcels on little tables. In Germany boys dress up as kings and carry a star round the village, singing carols. Submitted by Claudia Happel The German Christmas traditions are not quite like that. 1. Christmas preparations start before Dec. 1st, 2. December 6 is Nikolaustag, St. Claus day, you leave out a shoe or boot outside the door Dec.5 and the next morning you find presents (if you were a good kid) or a rod (if you were bad) 3. The Adventskranz (advent wreath) is not hung up but placed on a table lying flat, how could

Roman Britain

Conquest by the Normans in 1066. Christianisation of the Anglo-Saxon Kingdoms began around 600 and was essentially complete by the mid 8th century. Throughout the 7th and 8th centuries, power fluctuated between the larger kingdoms. Bede records Aethelbert of Kent as being dominant at the close of the 6th century, but power seems to have shifted northwards to the kingdoms of Mercia and Northumbria. Aethelbert and some of the later kings of the other kingdoms were recognised by their fellow kings as Bretwalda. The so-called 'Mercian Supremacy' dominated the 8th century, though again it was not constant. Aethelbald and Offa, the two most powerful kings, achieved high status. This period has been described as the Heptarchy, though this term has now fallen out of academic use. The word arose on the basis that the seven kingdoms of Northumbria, Mercia, Kent, East Anglia, Essex, Sussex and Wessex were the main polities of south Britain. More recent
