American sports Football History Football came from England, it was a mix of rugby and soccer. Professional Football in America started in 1895, soon after the colleges started playing. Then in the 1922 the league was called the NFL. Football History The NFL consisted of only 10 teams, from 19461949, then gradually grew more. By 1970 there were two divisions the AFL and NFL. NFL had 16 teams and the AFL had 10 teams Then in 1993 the NFL consisted of 30 teams and only 2 more teams have joined since then. Baseball History Baseball is known throughout America as the National Pastime. The inventor of baseball was Alexander Joy Cartwright who lived in Cooperstown New York. In the early 1900s1920 baseball was known as Dead Ball because they would use the same ball throughout the entire game.
