Why is father worried about one baby? Jonas's father speaks of a weak infant at the nursery whom he is going to temporarily bring home in order to provide better care, since if the baby cannot recover he will have to be released. 7. Why is Jonas apprehensive about the Ceremony of Twelve? He is apprehensive about the upcoming Ceremony of Twelve, when he will be given his official Assignment as a new adult member of the community. He does not have a distinct career preference, although he enjoys volunteering at a variety of different jobs. Though he is a well-behaved citizen and a good student, Jonas is different: he has pale eyes, while most people in his community have dark eyes, and he has unusual powers of perception. ..like elsewhere in the world...Santa's watching! Advent: The Christmas season really begins with Advent, the four weeks before Christmas. In many homes, Advent wreaths and Advent candles are used. The Advent candle is lit every night and prayers said to prepare hearts for the birth of the Christ Child. At the beginning of December, children start opening the windows of their Advent calenders revealing a Christmas picture or perhaps uncovering a sweet chocolate. Twelve Days of Christmas: During the centuries when it was a crime to be Catholic and to practice one's faith, the "Twelve Days of Christmas" was used as a memory aid. The gifts listed in the song are hidden references to Catholic dogma. Lighting Candles: Candles are placed in windows to light the way for travelers on Christmas Eve. Today people use electric candles for safety reasons. The "light in the window" welcomes family and friends coming home for Christmas, but it also

The Golden Gate Bridge The Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, California is one of the most beautiful, and most photographed, bridges in the world. The Golden Gate Bridge is a 1.7 mile(2,74 km)long bridge that can be crossed by car, on bicycles or on foot. It is the second longest bridge in the United States. The Golden Gate Bridge, completed after more than four years of construction at a cost of $35 million, opened to traffic on May 28, 1937 at twelve o'clock noon. One of the most interesting Golden Gate Bridge fact is that only eleven workers died during construction, a new safety record for the time. One of the bridge's safety innovations was a net suspended under the floor. This net saved the lives of 19 men during construction . There are also 128 lights installed on the bridge roadway. It makes it beautiful at night-time. The avarage crossings are about 41 million per year, counting both north- and south crossings.
Ireland is separated into two parts. The north is part of the United Kingdom, while four fifths of the island make up the Republic of Ireland, which has been an independent country since 1921. The Irish are fun-loving and friendly. They like music and humour and they are also good storytellers. There are many legends in Ireland in which the leprechaun, the shoemaker of the Irish fairy kingdom, appears. He is no bigger than three feet tall and sometimes as small as twelve inches. Amanita virosa gills are white, free and crowded. 0 Stems of Destroying Angels are 9 to 15cm tall and often slightly curved; pure white and fibrous with fragile ring high up on the stipe. 0 Symptoms of poisoning by Amanita virosa 0 It contains the highly toxic amatoxins, as well as phallotoxins. Amatoxins initially cause gastrointestinal disorders with symptoms such as diarrhea, nausea and stomach pains occurring within five to twelve hours. Cruelly, the systems usually fade away for several hours or even a day or two, tricking the victim into thinking that they are recovering. When in due course the symptoms return with a vengeance, it may be too late: kidney and liver damage are already well underway. Without treatment, coma and eventual death are almost inevitable. Other poisonous mushrooms in Estonia 0 In Estonia there are about 200 species of mushrooms which are more or less poisonous
Oil on cottonwood One of the most famous paintings of all times is a mystery. It is uncertain whether the painting is a portrait of the wife of the Florentine citizen Francesco del Giocondo as traditionally believed, while Mona Lisa’s enigmatic smile remains a subject of speculation. The painting can be seen in the Louvre Museum in Paris, France. The last supper Tempera on gesso, pitch and mastic. The mural represents Jesus and the twelve disciples when Jesus says that one of them would betray him. The painting which covers a wall at the monastery of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan, Italy, is mainly a later reconstruction because much of it deteriorated relatively soon as a result of Leonardo’s experimentation with tempera and oil on dry wall. . Advantages and disadvantages of taking a gap year Many students take a gap year before going to university after graduating from high school to have a little longer holiday after being in school for twelve or more years. But, is it the best choice? What good or bad could that do? For sure one year makes a difference, it can make people lazier, but it can also give time to think about his/her future plans. There can be many reasons for a gap year: money, people go to work or some people go to the army for not taking a year for the army during studies in the university or just being tired of school.
of the Ptolemies, besieged Rhodes in an attempt to break the Rhodo-Egyptian alliance. They could never penetrate the city. When a peace agreement was reached in 304 BC, the Antagonids lifted the siege, leaving a wealth of military equipment behind. The Rhodians decided to express their pride by building a triumphal statue of their favourite god, Helios. The task was assigned to the sculptor Chares of Lindos, a pupil of Lysippos himself, and twelve years (from 304 to 292 BC) were needed to complete it. The Colossus of Rhodes was not only a gigantic statue. It was a symbol of unity of the people who inhabited that beautiful Mediterranean island of Rhodes. To build the statue, the workers cast the outer bronze skin parts. The base was made of white marble, and the feet and ankle of the statue were first fixed. The structure was gradually erected as the bronze form was fortified with an iron and stone framework. To
Today, I want to pay your attention to a house called Forest Spiral (or Waldspirale in German), which is situated in Darmstadt, Germany, Frankfurterstrasse street. This city with a population of 141 thousand citizens is known to be a «city of science», so there is no surprise that such an eccentric and creative house was built there in 2000. Many of us reading fairytales have dreamt about living in magic houses and this twelve-storey building twisted in a shell is a dream come true. This eye-catching house, built without any rectangular forms, has a green roof with a garden, for what it was actually called a Forest spiral. There are 105 apartments, garage (), grocery store and a café inside the house as well as the patio () with an artificial pond and playground for kids. But why this house really stands out is that windows in it are situated unusually, going not in one line, but chaotically set in a façade
commission to paint the ceiling of the Sistine chapel in Vatican. At first, Michelangelo, who had been busy painting frescos in Pope Julius' tomb, refused his descendant's request, feeling that the undertaking of such a monumental task would take him away from sculpturing but the Pope insisted, and his word prevailed. Ironically, Michelangelo's work on the chapel ceiling broadened from the original request, which called for twelve paintings. Instead, he covered the entire ceiling with over 300 figures. The next big project for Michelangelo was to paint the altar wall by Pope Clement VII, shortly before his death. The fresco in question was that of The Last Judgment, a vivid rendition of the Apocalypse and of Heaven and Hell. But Michelangelo refused to do it. Instead he turned back to his true love, making sculptures. Michelangelo died at the high age of 88 years, in February 18 in 1564. Michelangelo

Purpose of NATO The North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) is an alliance created to unite Europe and North America in matters of defence and security. The principle of NATO is that security of each member states depends on security of all its members. If there is a threat to one's security, it concerns everyone. Central and Eastern Europe, including Estonia, fell under the influence of the Soviet Union or even became part of it after the Second World War. It was the time when twelve western states from both sides of the Atlantic Ocean established the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) on 4 April 1949. NATO was founded to balance out a threat coming from the Soviet Union and the Warsaw Treaty. NATO founding members were committed to defend each other in case of military aggression against any of the members. The Soviet Union collapsed in winter 1991 and the antagonism to the Soviet Union disappeared. As a

In the 17th century, the castle was no longer used as a defensive building by the Swedes who now ruled the Swedish Estonian Province. In the course of the Great Northern War in 1710 (seventeen ten), Estonia fell under Russian rule and the walls were partially demolished at the command of the Peter I of Russia, turning the castle in effect into ruins. It was at this time that the fortress that once displayed seven towered circular wall 803 (eight hundred free) meters long and 12 (twelve) meters high became a pile of ruins. In Estonia and its neighbouring countries only very few examples of medieval weapons have survived. The collection of those exhibited at the Town Museum is really unique. Today it is a friendly place for tourists. There is a beautiful green yard and a grey stone wall cannot be unseen when one takes a walk there. Visiting the castle grounds is free, and most days it's possible to ascend the castle's watchtower for views and photographs.

Suddenly, and it all seemed to happen at the same time, the music stopped and the clock struck twelve. As Ella had been dreading the room became silent for a minute. She couldn't force herself to move. All her worst nightmares were becoming real. She started hearing all kinds of voices from the attic. All at once the barking dogs went mad; she heard a crazed laughter coming from the attic and a thump. That was the last thing Ella remembered when she woke up- she had fainted and now when she looked at the timepiece she noticed it was five o'clock. It was still dark outside and the

International Mineralogical Association, is named in honour of the artist. Leonardo da Vinci imagined and sketched the first parachute in the 15 th century. He didn´t invent the clock, but he did design a more accurate one, which had two separate mechanisms: one for minutes and one for hours. Leonardo da Vinci is also believed to be the inventor of scuba gear. Many of his inventions didn´t became well-known until the famous Codex Atlanticus (which is a twelve-volume, bound set of drawings and writings (in Italian language) by Leonardo da Vinci). We chose Leonardo Da Vinci because he is so well-known and we thought that he was an interesting person. Also we were sure, that there would be a lot of information and research about him because of his fame.

His work became the basis for the great bible. 3.PRINTING. The original printing of the Authorized Version was published by Robert Barker, the King's Printer, in. It was sold looseleaf for ten shillings, or bound for twelve. Robert Barker invested very large sums in printing the new edition, and consequently ran into serious debt, such that he was compelled to sub-lease the privilege to two rival London printers, Bonham Norton and John Bill. It appears that it was initially intended that each printer would print a portion of the text, share printed sheets with the others, and split the proceeds. Bitter financial disputes broke out, as Barker accused Norton and Bill of concealing their profits
