Registreeritakse sobiva indikaatorelektroodi potentsiaali sõltuvus lisatud titrandi ruumalast. Indikaatorelektroodi potentsiaal on sõltuv vesinikioonide kontsentratsioonist lahuses, võrdluselektroodi potentsiaal ei sõltu vesinikioonide kontsentratsioonist lahuses, seega mõõdetakse indikaatorelektroodi potentsiaali muutust sõltuvalt titrandi hulgast lahuses.
