mine. Shortly after founding the company, De Beers already controlled almost all the world's diamond production, either they bought out new producers or entered into agreements with local governments. They had diamonds mines in Australia, India, Russia and some of the African countries. In 1927 the chairmanship of the company was taken over by the Jewish businessman Ernest Oppenheimer, whose successors have been operating as chairmen of the group till 2011, when they sold their 40% stake to Anglo America. De Beers view during the Oppenheimer times was all or nothing like example: The discovery of diamonds in Siberia in the 1950s was a threat to the control De Beers kept over the diamond supply. Rather than compete with Russian diamonds, De Beers offered to buy almost everything that came out of Siberia -- funneling all the worlds' diamonds through a "single channel." (Goldschein 2011)

think about abstract concepts. Such understanding can only be taught in higher education institutions. The point of education is to allow opportunity. As opportunities change, so must our education systems. Also why do pay the university costs yourself is that you already have education free till the end of high school. So what do you want more from the Government? Government makes big spendings to education because they know that this is their country's future at stake. Even lunches till high school are free for everyone. Therefore there's not much reasons to complain. In conclusion I think it would definitely be a respectable decision from the Government if the universities are to be free. But the affects to the budget would be enormous. At the moment the Government's budget probably wouldn't handle it well. All in all the situation now is perfectly normal, just with some slight side effects.

family Antigone wanted to give her brother a proper burial, and even though he did evil deeds, she respected him. She believed that all of the dead were in a state of equality. When faced with the decision to obey the King or obey her heart, she says on page 23, in lines 86-90: "I will bury him myself./If I die for doing that, good:/I will stay with him, brother;/and my crime will be devotion." This decision, to bury her brother, was very heroic in that even though she knew death was at stake, she knew where her loyalties lied. On page 39, lines 560-575, Antigone stands up to her uncle and tells him to his face that he has disobeyed the Gods decrees. In line 562, 563, and 564 she says: "I did not intend to pay, before the gods,/for breaking these laws/because of my fear of one man and his principles." Antigone accuses Kreon of overstepping the laws of the gods, by relying on his own thinking. As is
uncontrolled newborns to dispatch rival covens. These newborns destroyed each other as often as their targets, and had to be replaced. The other covens had to form their own newborn armies to counter Benito. The human population was also drastically reduced during the fighting, and eventually, the Volturi stepped in. The entire Volturi guard came from Italy and annihilated all the vampires found with newborns, virtually emptying the region of vampires for a time. The ones that survived began to stake claims again and the fighting resumed, though on a smaller scale. Newborn armies were again utilized, but with more care and control this time to avoid additional Volturi involvement. she realizes the true, selfish intentions of her husband. Throughout the play Torvald claims he will protect Nora from whatever comes their way, yet at the moment he discovers her debt to Krogstad he has no intention of taking the blame and hurting his own image "to the outside world"(1147). He instead calls Nora "a hypocrite, a liar" (1147) and "a criminal" (1147), instead of defending her. Nora has the realization that her marriage is not a priority if Torvald's social status is at stake, and she finally decides to stand up for herself. She discovers that she and Torvald do not understand each other, and she was only his "doll-child"(1149). Nora becomes very self-assured as she decides to leave her home and be free of Torvald's oppression. She boldy states that Torvald "never loved (her)" (1149) and that she was leaving him and the children at once. This statement makes a mockery of Torvald's claim that he'd "often wished that (she) could be threatened

The title was given to him by the pope because Henry VIII was against Protestantism and other religious reforms by J. Calvin and M. Luther. For that, the pope named Henry VIII the Fidei Defensor, meaning Defender of the Faith 4. Why did Mary I get the nickname Bloody Mary? Because during her reign, England became officially a Roman Catholic country, Parliament persecuted a lot of protestants and over 300 people who were burned at the stake. 5. Historians often speak about different ages or times in British history. When (in which centuries) were the following ages: Elizabethian, Georgian, Victorian. Characterise each of them (2 3 sentences). Elizabethian time started in the middle of 16th century and ended in the beginning of 17th century. were all innocent and longed for rescue but towards the end they gradually turned into savages who painted their faces, hunted and were willing to kill each other. For example in the third chapter all boys are still civilised and enjoy the beauty of the island when Simon finds this magical open place in the jungle that represents the innocence that still exists on the island. Then in chapter eight when Simon visits this jungle glade again he finds a sow's head on the stake there. The fact how this setting changed during five chapters is described in a quote from chapter eight ,,The other time the air had seemed to vibrate with heat; but now it threatened." Simon's secret place had turned from unearthy paradise into something terrifying and that also symbolised how the boys had become savages already. Without noticing the natural cruelty inside them developed, savagery instincts emerged and most of them stopped caring about civilisation.

Total stations can also be used in a tracking mode. They provide slope, horizontal and vertical distances; measure horizontal and vertical (zenith) angles and determine coordinates. Total stations may be used to work from the control networks for boundary surveys, construction stake out and for obtaining topographic data. 5. What are the functions of the microprocessor in the total station? - The microprocessor instantaneously computes horizontal and vertical components of slope distances as well as elevations and coordinates of sighted points. It is also possible to store these values in the microprocessor or transfer them to external data collectors. The angles and distances measured with a total station are entered into the built-in

Not Bureaucrats Do you really need the rich people? Wouldn't it work to have the government invest in the nerds? No, it would not. Startup investors are a distinct type of rich people. They tend to have a lot of experience themselves in the technology business. This helps them pick the right startups, and means they can supply advice and connections as well as money. And the fact that they have a personal stake in the outcome makes them really pay attention. Bureaucrats by their nature are the exact opposite sort of people from startup investors. The idea of them making startup investments is comic. It would be like mathematicians runningVogue-- or perhaps more accurately, Vogue editors running a math journal. Though indeed, most things bureaucrats do, they do badly. We just don't notice usually, because they only have to compete against other bureaucrats. But as startup investors
border) to the Mediterranean Sea. Their Austrian and Slovenian domains, however, were lost when Otakar II died and his army was thrashed at the 1278 Battle of Moravské Pole (fought near modern-day Dürnkrut in Austria) by the Austrian Habsburgs. Hussite revolution The late 14th and early 15th centuries witnessed the Church-reform movement led by Jan Hus. Hus' eventual conviction for heresy and his death at the stake in 1415 sparked a nationalist rebellion in Bohemia led by the Hussite preacher Jan Zelivsk. In 1419 several Catholic councillors were flung from the windows of Prague's New Town Hall by Zelivsk's followers, thus introducing the word 'defenestration' (the act of throwing someone or something out of a window) to the political lexicon. After the death in 1419 of Holy Roman emperor and king of Bohemia Wenceslas IV, Prague was ruled by various Hussite committees
Political leaders have to, when necessary, be clever enough to know when they have to break the law. Because they believe in that law, they should also feel guilty for breaking it. This vision is based on the consequentialist reasoning that the honouring of individual rights in such emergency situations are subjected to the saving of people's lives. In case of serious threat where the fundamental values of a society are at stake and slavery or mass murder threaten it, all means are morally justified to save society of this. He does however not consider the effects it has on the government staff who are put into positions as such. In the theory, this concerns a few members of staff seen as collateral damage for the sake of acting upon assumption. This however serves no purpose and rather voids their efforts, which makes the destabilization of their health in

Why were they such a disaster?" The view of Rowse, Snow approves: "They would not listen to warnings because they did not wish to hear." Being anti-Red made it impossible for them to read the message of Hitler. But their failure was as nothing compared to our present one. The American stake in literacy as a technology or uniformity applied to every level of education, government, industry, and social life is totally threatened by the electric technology. The threat of Stalin or Hitler was external. The electric technology is within the gates, and we are numb, deaf, blind, and mute about its encounter with the Gutenberg technology, on and through which the American way of life was formed. It is, however, no

Karamitroglou published the article entitled "A Proposed Set of Subtitling Standards in Europe" in issue number 2 of Translation Journal in 1998. This art- icle covers many aspects in relation with subtitles, their format and the profession- al conventions at stake. With a somewhat prescriptive intention, the author pro- poses some linguistic "best practices", as far as creation of subtitles is concerned. Forbidden Books and there it remained until 1757. Galileo was ordered to appear before the Inquisition at Rome. He awaited intervention by the Pope, his former friend, but it never came. He also believed, quite innocently, that he could show that Copernicanism was not in any direct opposition to Church dogma, However, as Galileo found out, what was at issue was not so much heliocentricity but authority. Galileo quickly realized what was at stake. The now seventy year old Galileo was interrogated relentlessly and threatened with torture. The Church had a strong defense it was clear that Galileo had violated the prohibition placed upon him in 1616. He could believe Copernican theory but not publicly defend it. To prove their position, the Church produced the forged minutes of Galileo's meeting with Cardinal Bellarmine in 1616. Unfortunately for Galileo, by 1632, Bellarmine was dead. The

Levin leaves the table to join the men in a talk on farming. Everyone in attendance is complaining about the serf system. Some say the serfs were better before emancipation; some say things became better after emancipation. The problem, though, is that the serfs don't feel they have enough stake in the land to work hard. Levin says this is because the serfs are poor. He proposes a communal system in which he will share all his profits equally with the peasants. Everyone, that way, would have an interest in farming and everyone's incomes would benefit. He goes home to begin working on this revolutionary project which would grant everyone full partnership in the land. Later on, Nicholas comes to Levin at home, sicker than ever. His death is imminent

philosophy of liberalism and belief in human rights became a central concern of European intellectual culture during the 18th century Age of Enlightenment. The idea of human rights lay at the core of theAmerican and French revolutions. Difference between derogations and limitations from human rights: Derogations from human rights are permitted only in exceptional circumstances, when the life of the nation is at stake, when there's a natural disaster, etc. The situation has to be officially proclaimed and then informed to the Human Rights Organisation? Derogations can be only inflicted upon rights that can be derogated from and it should only be temporary (for the duration of the emergency situation). It also has to be strictly-required and in proportion to the aims achieved, only rights puudutatud by the situation can be derogated from. Also,

American embassy. As the President was addressing a message of peace to the Emperor, the men of the Japanese strike force were listening to a message of war. Shortly before, Admiral Nagumo had topped off the fuel tanks of his combat ships for the final dash. His crews waved farewell to the slow- moving tankers. Now the officers read a stirring message from Yamamoto to all hands: "The moment has arrived. The fate of the empire is at stake. Let every man do his best." Banzais rent the air. Up the mast of Akagi fluttered the very flag that had flown at Japan's great naval victory over Russia in 1905. It was a moment of great emotion. Nagumo altered course to due south and bent on 26 knots. Through a mounting sea, the battle force plunged toward its target. Lovely, peaceful, that target lay "open unto the fields, and to the sky," oblivious to the onrushing armada of destruction. And as it increased its

sees certain that during a three-hundred-year period between three and five million women were tortured and killed by the “Holy Inquisition, “ an institution founded by the Roman Catholic Church to suppress heresy. This sure ranks together with the Holocaust as one of the darkest chapters in human history. It was enough for a woman to show a love for animals, walk alone in the fields or woods, or gather medicinal plants to be branded a witch, then tortured and burned at the stake. The sacred feminine was declared demonic, and an entire dimension largely disappeared form human experience. Other cultures and religions, such as Judaism, Islam, and even Buddhism, also suppressed the female dimension, although in a less violent way. Women's status was reduced to being child bearers and men's property. Males who denied the feminine even within themselves where now running the world, a world that was totally out of balance.
