BELLOWS INSTRUMENTS Estonian bellows(Eesti lõõts) First accordions reached Estonia quickly through sailors and merchants. Soon local masters began to make these instruments, the most famous among them was August Teppo (18751959) of Võrumaa. He set a type that was copied by others. Teppo's lõõts had great volume, they lasted long and had copper ornaments. Particularly good were Teppo's strings. This lõõts has chords only in major. Teppo type instruments are called eesti lõõts or võru lõõts, or Teppo lõõts. This instrument is still very popular in Estonia, played by various age groups. Lõõts is taught also at traditional music instruction camps, at various schools and in college. Libliklõõts Accordions made in Russian factories also spread widely in Estonia. Summary HUGO TREFFNER GYMNASIUM Virve Kass Supervisor: Aare Ristikivi The meaning of «kaheksakand»(eight-star) in Estonia through times Kaheksakanna kui populaarse ornamendi tähendus läbi aegade Research paper 2010 Number of pages: 15 The current research paper focuses on the changes that have taken place in the minds of Estonian people about the importance and meanings of folk art. Mostly the paper focuses on «kaheksakand», which is one of the most popular ornaments in Estonia and also in the world. Information about past I got from trade literature: mainly books, but also from another research paper. To get information about modern people thoughts I carried out a survey on Internet, which got 127 answers from people aged 13-43. In addition, I interviewed one artist by e-mail. Also I used articles from newspapers and journals. The paper falls into two main chpaters. Both focus on comparing modern meanings to the old ones.
The creation of these early furnished gardens marked the beginning of a remarkable but little-known story, the history of American garden ornament. The two hundred years between 1740 and 1940 witnessed the creation of many important American gardens. This book will discuss the origins and development of American taste in terms of the ornament that decorated the grounds of these historic estates. We will consider not only the styles, techniques, materials, and ornaments themselves that were transported to America from Europe and elsewhere, but also domestic products emerging from the growing sophistication, confidence, and technical abilities of the new nation. While tastemakers and creators of great estates did turn to Europe for guidance and example in the period discussed, inevitably, many of the imported styles were transformed when absorbed into the new and challenging environment of the New

Markus, so it's a big pro. From the outside the cottage looks very pretty. It's finished with blue pine and is painted to light-green. It has also a marvelous thatched roof and it really reminds me one of these little elf houses from fairytales. Interior of the house is fully-furnished, it's is very spacious, but still comfortable and cozy. On the ground floor there is a living room decorated with unique lighting fixtures and beautiful wall ornaments. There's also a fireplace. Two bedrooms with a view over the lake are situated on the first floor. There is a sauna with bubble tube on this floor, too. I found it would be a perfect place for spending your Christmas and summer holidays here. Can you only imagine how fun can be the time spent in this beautiful house, being surrounded by all of your dearest friends? So, I wrote you only a most important information about this summerhouse. I'll add some photos we took of it, too

However, in the more recent times, the goat has reappeared in the tamer and less devious form of Julebukk. Christmas tree decorations are a major part of festive celebrations in Norway. The celebrators either decorate a spruce or a pine tree, in the living area of their home. It is decorated with white lights, tinsel, Norwegian flags and other Christmas ornaments. Paper baskets of colored and flossy papers are made by the children. These baskets are filled with candies and nuts. Popular decorative items include chains made of colored papers. Colored lights are also gaining popularity, even as white lights continue to be used to resemble the candles traditionally lit on Christmas. Members of the Brotherhood left Tallinn in the 1940s. The site of the House of the Brotherhood of Blackheads probably had a residential building on it from the 14th century. In the first half of the 16th century, the Blackheads bought it and built a new hall with an archless ceiling. The next serious rebuilding took place in 1597, when the facade was redesigned in the Dutch Renaissance architectural spirit, with a profusion of ornaments and carved decorations. One of Tallinn's most eyecatching doors, on the front of this building, dates to 1640. The twonaved and vaulted guild hall, bought from the Olav Guild, dates to the 15th century. The next renovation took place in 1908, but this time it only affected the interiors, which were given a neo classical appearance.
The main regions fall into South, North, and West Estonia, and the islands as a separate group, reflecting ancient tribal peculiarities. South Estonia This region is the most conservative in dress. Maidens in Southern Estonia bound their hair with a ribbon plaited from colourful pieces of cloth or woollen yarns. Instead of a skirt, the Setu women wore a garment resembling the Russian sarafan. Setu women were extremely fond of silver ornaments: on their chest they wore a conical brooch, in addition to various silver chains. Traditionally, the large setu brooch was only worn by women of child-bearing age; nowadays older women, too, use it as a decoration. The men of the southeast wore their shirts loosely on their pants with a belt, similar to the Russian tradition. North Estonia This region was relatively unified and prone to modernisation. Here people were first

Today people use electric candles for safety reasons. The "light in the window" welcomes family and friends coming home for Christmas, but it also symbolizes the welcome for the Holy Family. Every window in the house is garlanded with lights. The Christmas Tree The tree is decorated with tinsel and baubles and lights and gifts are put underneath. The gifts are opened on Christmas morning, not before! Here is a nice collection of Christmas ornaments and decorations from Ireland. Gift Giving: Presents are a big thing in Ireland. One need only visit the cousins to find that nearly anything that is admired is offered. The usual politeness must be abandoned. It's acceptable to tell another that a scarf, for example, suits them, but to admire it outright is akin to asking for it. Beware. At Christmas, gifts are given to the whole family. The Irish are generous people. If it is at all possible, everyone gets a little something
often fancied up with ribbon and garlands. In ancient times, a coin was broken by a young man and half given to his intended and half for himself. The broken coin represented his intent to return. Burials Early Anglo-Saxon burials are traditionally based on cremation on a prye, with the deposition of corposes in the ground in a pottery container. Later, the unburned body was depodited in a rectangular grave. Graves were also commonly furnished with goods including jewellery, ornaments, brooches, beads, girdle-hangers and weaponry. Pottery and other vessels are sometimes found, as are toilet-sets, knives and amuletic items. Contribution Anglo-Saxon art contributed some distinctive iconographic forms to the artistic mainstream and also stylistic elements. Manuscript painting made a major contribution to the evolution of Romanesque and, ultimately, Gothic art. The early Anglo-Saxon period is notable for its cemeteries, most of which are found in the

James I. It was customary for each monarch to lodge in the Tower before his coronation and to ride in procession to Westminster through the city of London from the Tower. John Stow wrote during the reign of Elizabeth I, The Tower of London was "...a citadel to defend or command the city, a royal palace for assemblies or treaties, a prison of state for the most dangerous offenders; the only place of coinage for all England...The armoury for warlike provision; the treasury of the ornaments and jewels of the crown; and general conserver of the most records of the queen's courts of justice". In fact the Tower was no longer used as a royal residence, except before coronations, when Stow wrote those words. The Tudors had changed all that. St. Paul's Cathedral St. Paul's Cathedral has had an eventful history. The first records date from 604 AD, when Mellitus, Bishop of the East Saxons built the first wooden church on the summit of one of London's hills

The flag of the United States is one of the nation's most widely recognized symbols. Within the U.S. it is frequently displayed, not only on public buildings, but on private residences. It is also used as a motif on decals for car windows, and clothing ornaments such as badges and lapel pins. Throughout the world it is used in public discourse to refer to the U.S., not only as a nation, state, government, and set of policies, but also as an ideology and set of ideals. longer than that. For a long time, scientists believed that the ancestors of all North American First Nations people crossed over on foot to North America from Asia at the end of the last ice age, about 12,000 years ago. At that time Asia and North America were joined, and what is now the bottom of the Bering Sea between Russia and Alaska was dry land, (a "land bridge) because sea levels were much lower than they are now. The earliest man-made artifacts tools or ornaments that archaeologists have found date from that time. The theory is that nomadic hunting people followed the big animals (moose, deer, elk, buffalo) for food, and eventually moved south and spread out as the ice sheets melted back. Then they evolved different cultures to suit different environments. Scientists now think that the ancestors of First Nations people may have come to North America from several different parts of Asia and Polynesia, following several different routes

This is one reason why flags are not merely colourful ornaments. Instead, identification and representation are the key functions of the earliest kinds of symbolism. Symbolic devices have been employed to identify groups and territories throughout history, while, at the same time, they have been used symbolically to differentiate communities from one another: the relationship between `us' and `others' isintimately linked to communal forms of 12 symbolism

Are there any Celtic peoples in Europe at present? Where do you think they live? What territories did they occupy in ancient times? What happened to them? The first real civilization was brought to Britain in the third millennium BC by the Iberians who arrived from the Iberian Peninsula in Southern Europe. The Iberians were skilled in the use of copper and gold; they made copper daggers and axes, traded in gold and copper ornaments. In the second millennium they started using bronze. The Iberians were farmers who bred cattle and probably tamed horses. The Celtic Settlement Towards the Christian era, there was an Iron Age Celtic culture throughout the British Isles. The Celts1 had been arriving from Europe from the eighth century BC onwards. The Celts began to control all the lowland areas of Britain and, with new

I have more than once observed to Lady Catherine, that her charming daughter seemed born to be a duchess, and that the most elevated rank, instead of giving her consequence, would be adorned by her.
