Essay about NewZealand and Australia

In my essay I will describe the most characteristic features of the Maori people and the aborigines. I will divide the essay in 3 parts the Maori people, the aborigines and their comparison. Maori are the host people of New Zealand. Their name is derived from Ma-Uri which means the children of heaven. The arrival of the Maori people to New Zealand is considered to be somewhat of a mystery. It is known that first Polynesians arrived to New Zealand about 1000 years ago, when navigator Kupe discovered the land in 950 AD. He named it Aotearoa The Land of the Long White Cloud. Although these facts can be debatable, I will focus my attention on this interpretation of Maori history. After the Maori arrived to New Zealand, they started to develop into tribes and sub tribes, this tribal system is still in use

People from a wide range of European countries have arrived since Captain James Cook to make up 75% of the population while Maori make up about 10%. The Maori first arrived on these shores just over a 1000 years ago at the close of the last millennium. Today, the Maori have adopted western lifestyles but have actively been encouraged to keep alive their culture, language and art. Other ethnic groups have arrived from Polynesia (Tonga, Samoa, Cook Islands) with Auckland now being the Polynesia capital of the South Pacific. People from China, Taiwan, Korea, Vietnam, etc have also settled in New Zealand making for a diverse population mix. History :

The largest centre with over 1 million inhabitants is Auckland. ..................................................................................................................................................... In 1642, the Dutch sailor Abel Tasman visited New Zealand and named it Zeeland. After Captain James Cook's exploration of New Zealand in the late 18th century, an increasing number of settlers came to New Zealand. In 1840, an agreement was signed between the British Crown and Maori. It established British law in New Zealand. As more and more settlers arrived, conflicts over land led to several wars between the British and Maori in the North Island. The South Island remained rather peaceful until in 1863 gold was found there, and thousands of people hurried to New Zealand to look for gold. New Zealand became a separate colony in 1841. In 1907, New Zealand became an independent Dominion, and a fully independent nation in 1947. British culture dominated

The basic parts of New Zealand are the North Island and the South Island. Wellington - which is located on the South Island - is the most southern capital city in the world, but the biggest city in New Zealand is Auckland. There are three official languages in New Zealand: English, Maori and the New Zealand's Sign Language. Ebatavalised maailma traditsioonid

Traditio- lad k. edasiandmine, teade. Maailmas on palju erinevaid traditsioone. Lapimaal on sama traditsioon. Bulgaarias tervitatakse uut aastat suudlustega pimedas toas. Meessoost eskimod tervitavad üks teist lüües rusikaga pähe või selga. Sahara tuareegid võivad aga tervitada üle poole tunni, võtes juba 100 meetri kauguselt erinevaid naljakaid poose , hüppata,, joosta ja kummardada.

The Life of Indigenous Australian Children.

About 85% of Aboriginal families have been affected in some way, either by having children taken away from them or by being forced to make major decisions to avoid having their children taken. Mothers of some Aboriginal children would cover their fair-skinned children with black clay; hide them in trees, behind sand dunes, or in hollow logs. Families were moving constantly, to keep one step ahead of "welfare." Some families said that they were Italian, Maori, or Greek, leaving their true identity to themselves to escape the strict control of the white "protector." The removal of these children from their families affected more than just a few people. In New South Wales, the government estimated that, in New South Wales alone, there were at least 8,000 Aboriginal children who had been taken away from their families between 1885 and 1996. Aboriginal children were often taken for being "neglected." The missions and
