Greec wedding traditions

During this thing the friends' and relatives' babies are being gently rolled from one side to another on the matrimonial bed. The bed is also strewn with rose petals, coins and sugar-coated almonds. It is all supposed to bring fertility, happiness and prosperity to the new marriage. Of course the well known tradition of groom not seeing his bride in her wedding dress before the ceremony is considered bad luck in Greece too. Koumbaros is the most important person man at a Greek wedding who is not the groom or the priest. Usually that man is the groom's godfather, but it can also be some other man, who is named as a mark of great honor. He has an extended duties during the ceremony. He holds twin crowns over the heads of the bride and groom, which shows that the couple are the King and Queen of their union as man and wife. And he also joins them in a symbolic gesture by circling the alter three times. It is held as the first walk made by the married couple

1604 and completed in 1611. It was the third official translation into english. The first was the great bible which was made during the reign of kind henry VIII and the second was bishops bible. They started making the new version in 1604 because the puritans(a factino within the church of england) perceived (detected)problems with earlier translations. 2.The translation was done by 47 scholars, all of who were members of the Church of England. The New Testament was translated from Greek, the Old Testament was translated from Hebrew text, while the Apocrypha were translated from the Greek and Latin. Over the course of the 18th century, the Authorized Version supplanted the Latin Vulgate as the standard version of scripture for English speaking scholars. Person on the picture is william tyndale. His translation was the first print of the new testament in english in 1525 but over the next ten years he revised his new testament because of the rapidly advancing biblical scholarship

Inglise keele ajalugu, essee "My languages"

My languages I love different languages. I mean, I really, really love different languages. I also believe and have been told that I pick them up rather easily. That might be true, although I did not pick any Greek up in Greece but that might have been because they spoke so damn fast that I could not tell if it was a word or an entire sentence. The first foreign language I learned was Russian. Considering I was ten when Estonia became a Republic, it makes sense. We began studying Russian in first grade, though it was simplified – "koška" instead of "kot", "medvešonok" instead of "medved", "saichik" etc. Did not make much sense and we mostly played some games in Russian (Tare-tareke etc)

Reflective Statement Antigone

Johanna Merirand Reflective Statement How was your understanding of the cultural and contextual considerations of the work developed during your interactive oral? My comprehension of the traditions and culture of the ancient Greek was substantially enhanced through the discussion we had on the conflict between men and nature in Antigone by Sophocles. The two main characters in the play are Antigone and Creon, who both are motivated by their hubris and the need for glory. In the play, Antigone rebels against the rules set out by Creon, when she attempts to bury her brother even though it has been prohibited by the state. Antigone is sentenced with

eventually plastered over. The Islamic features -- such as the mihrab, the minbar, and the four minarets outside -- were added over the course of its history under the Ottomans. It was in 1935 that the first Turkish President - Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, converted the mosque into a museum. For almost 500 years the principal mosque of Istanbul, Hagia Sophia served as a model for many of the Ottoman mosques. Although it is sometimes referred to as Santa Sophia, the Greek name in full is Church of the Holy Wisdom of God. It was to this, the Holy Wisdom of God, that the Church was dedicated ("Sophia" being the phonetic spelling in Latin of the Greek word for wisdom). So Santa Sophia should be understood as the italianate title of the church, Holy Wisdom; not as a reference to some saint named Sophia. · Hagia Sophia has forty windows around the base of the dome. The rooms are excellent for organising top-priority meetings or heated debates, exciting discussions or educational training courses. Restaurant Fii offers all its visitors delicious dishes, combining visual attractiveness and exciting flavours. The hotel is called Sophia [] which is a Greek word for wisdom. The name is inspired by the rapidly developing surroundings of the hotel, where research and development are everyday keywords. Tartu University Hospital along with its prominent study buildings are only a short walking distance away. The design of hotel logo combines the Greek transcription of SOPHIA and the roundabout marking the hotel's location, which is the main hub for closest major cities. Phonetics Glossary Homework

For multi-word lexemes which contain possessive adjectives or reflexive pronouns, the citation form uses a form of the indefinite pronoun one: e.g., do one's best, perjure oneself. In many languages, the citation form of a verb is the infinitive: French aller, German gehen, Spanish ir. In English it usually is the full infinitive (to go) although alphabetized without 'to' (go); the present tense is used for some defective verbs (shall, can, and must have only the one form). In Latin, Ancient Greek, and Modern Greek (which has no infinitive), however, the first person singular present tense is normally used, though occasionally the infinitive may also be seen. The pronunciation form in a dictionary will usually relate to the citation form of the word in question. This may differ in various respects from the forms to be expected in connected speech, sometimes referred to as phonotypical forms. Wells, J.C. 1999. Phonetic transcription and analysis

Reading task

Percy Jackson and The Olympians: The Lightning Thief A film review by Bill Gibron The new Harry Potter wannabe, Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, gets so many things right that when it goes astray (which happens with more and more frequency as it goes along) you kind of wish it hadn't tried in the first place. Unless your last name is Harryhausen, you shouldn't really maneuver Greek mythology, and you definitely don't need to use it as a source from some Shrek-inspired collection of tired pop culture riffs. Yet that's exactly what this Chris Columbus helmed half-success does. We begin by learning that the fabled gods of old do exist, and that Zeus is especially mad at brother Poseidon. Seems the head hocho's magical lightning bolt has been stolen, and each accuses the other of using the crime as a means of starting an all out Olympian war. Zeus specifically

NATURE

nature What is nature? Nature, in broadest sense, is material world- all the universum. In smaller sense, nature is part of world, which is not influenced by humen activity. Where come from word nature? The word nature is derived from the Latin word natura, or "essential qualities, innate disposition", and in ancient times, literally meant "birth". Natura was a Latin translation of the Greek word physis which originally related to the intrinsic characteristics that plants, animals, and other features of the world develop of their own accord. Pühadeks olenditeks peeti öökulli ja madu, pühaks puuks õlipuud. Athenat on kujutatud enamasti esemetega, mis olid vajalikud sõjas: kilbi, kiivri, oda ja aigisega. The Renaissance

learning foreign languages, reading, playing musical instruments and studying other things of interest. The Renaissance was especially strong in Italian cities. They became centres of trade, wealth and education. Many cities, like Venice, Genoa and Florence had famous citizens who were very rich and gave the city a lot of money. The printing of books led to a new way of thinking. Scholars of the Renaissance returned to the writings of Greek and Roman philosophers. These writings are called the "classics". More and more scholars learned to read Greek and Latin and studied old manuscripts on topics like science, art and life.During the Middle Ages people were guided by the church, which was against wealth, trading goods and other worldly interests. Humanists, however, did not believe that much in religion. They thought that money and trade were important in life and that citizens needed a good general education.

The removal of these children from their families affected more than just a few people. In New South Wales, the government estimated that, in New South Wales alone, there were at least 8,000 Aboriginal children who had been taken away from their families between 1885 and 1996. Aboriginal children were often taken for being "neglected." The missions and
