require urgent attention. 1. Pollution: Pollution of air, water and soil require millions of years to recoup. Industry and motor vehicle exhaust are the number one pollutants. Heavy metals, nitrates and plastic are toxins responsible for pollution. While water pollution is caused by oil spill, acid rain, urban runoff; air pollution is caused by various gases and toxins released by industries and factories and burning of fossil fuels; soil pollution is majorly caused by industrial waste that deprives soil from essential nutrients. FIND OUT 5 WAYS HOW TO STOP POLLUTION. 2. Global Warming: Climate changes like global warming is the result of human practices like emission of Greenhouse gases. Global warming leads to rising temperatures of the oceans and the earth surface causing melting of polar ice caps, rise in sea levels and also flash floods, excessive snow or desertification. Cloudy weather can make the technology unreliable during the day. Solar technologies are very expensive. Requires a lot of land area to collect the sun's energy. Wind energy Most wind energy comes from wind turbines. Wind turbines are used to wring electricity from the breeze. Wind turbine use has increased at more than 25 percent a year. Wind is a clean source of renewable energy that produces no air or water pollution. Wind is free, operational costs are nearly zero once a turbine is erected. Negative aspects of wind energy Wind turbines make noise. Slowly rotating blades can kill birds and bats. Wind is variable: if it's not blowing , there's no electricity generated. Wind turbines are expensive. Hydroelectric power

Environmental issues in Estonia

Environmental issues in Estonia The Earth is considered to be the most beatiful planets in the Universe. But our planet is threaten by environmental problems. Even a small country like Estonia can make difference. Our capital city is fighting against air pollution. But people produce much refuse and ways of recycling are getting old. Water pollution is also a problem in Estonia. We have factories that let their waste run into rivers. One of the biggest problems in Estonia is air pollution. Our air is polluted by exhaust fumes, because today we have a lot of cars, buses and other machines. In 2009 we had 407 cars to thousand inhabitants, which is lower than European Union average, but this number is still high. Because cars produce gases that contain carbon dioxide. This carbon dioxide in the air causes global warming, which is the result of the greenhouse effect. Tallinn wants to fight

Me and the environment

INKA ISESEISEV TÖÖ Me and the environment It is very important to keep the environment clean. Many people don' t think what wrong behavior does with the envoronment. Very much people throw their garbage into th environment. Why people throw so many things into the environment whent there is so much garbage bins everywhere, many collecting points. I don' t throw my garbage to outside, i put it in the garbage bin. I will try to sort my garbage. But there's also things why I am forced to ruin nature . I really don 't wanna do that but I can't change it anyhow. I'm forced to do it because in that department whe I live , here is no drainpipe. Because of that we have to throw all our used water to the nature. Everything what we do, what needs to waste water, that's goes all to the nature

Efficient initiatives to help protect the environment

Many of us believe that we lead lives that respect nature but our consumption habits give us away. Many little habits that seem to be sustainable are in fact polluting. Along with pollution, issues like depletion of resources, the rise of consumerism, and the "throw away" culture have led to serious issues. That being said, the fight's not over yet. Fortunately, more people than ever are both aware of and active in the protection of the environment. To protect the environment, waste management and recycling are crucial. When we recycle, used materials are converted into new products, reducing the need to consume natural resources. If used materials are not recycled, new products are made by extracting fresh, raw material from the Earth, through mining and forestry. Recycling helps conserve important raw materials and protects natural habitats for the future. As recycling saves energy it also reduces greenhouse gas emissions, which helps to tackle climate change

How to save fresh water?

How to save fresh water? We all know what the problem is. Our lakes are dirty, people are wasting water for no reason not understanding how important it is not to waste it because we may soon run out of fresh water. It can seem like there's no solution, but there is! A few simple changes can help a lot. First of all, it is really important to keep our lakes clean, because nature is the premier source of fresh water. So people should stop dropping garbage into the lakes or near them. And walking pets near the lakes is also not such a good idea. It's not very nice to find some animal's body wastes while going to swim. Secondly, think about how much water you use. A few simple steps could save your money and help protect the environment. For example you should prefer shower to bath or you should turn the water off while brushing your teeth.

Water pollution and society

Water pollution and society This essay is about fresh water and pollution. It's based on an article by David Krantz and Brad Kifferstein. I read it through and now I'm trying to give the conclusion of the article as well as express my own opinion. 70 percent of planet Earth's surface contain water. Water is the beginning of life and vital natural resource. It's vital for every living organism. That's why we have to keep the water bodies clean and stop polluting our fresh water. It's hard to believe, but planet Earth is in great danger. People can't see the whole picture. They are being indifferent to the future. Everyone thinks about themselves and tries to find a better and easier way to get rid of garbage and waste. Money is everything for them. Money talks and nobody cares about giving a dollar to save the nature. Usually a person thinks that what difference can he make. But if everybody think so,

of these can vary considerably. Some technologies are already mature and economically competitive (e.g. geothermal and hydropower), others need additional development to become competitive without subsidies. This can be helped by improvements to sub-components, such as electric generators. The table shows an overview of costs of various renewable energy technologies. For comparison with the prices in the table, electricity production from a conventional coal-fired plant costs about 4¢/kWh. Though in some G8 nations the cost can be significantly higher at 7.88p (~15¢/kWh).Achieving further cost reductions as indicated in the table below requires further technology development, market deployment, an increase in production capacities to mass production levels, and of the establishment of an emissions trading scheme and/or carbon tax which

Environmental Issues and Sustainable Development in Estonia

Environmental Issues and Sustainable Development in Estonia We are all a part of the environment that surrounds us. Unfortunately, people do not always know how to take care of the things that are vital to our survivor but what we take for granted such as water, air and forests products. However, things have improved in recent years. What has been done to improve the environment in Estonia? People today are too lazy to think or to do something to protect the environment. They dump their waste into forests and even rivers which causes air and water pollution. Fortunately, people have come up with different organisations and events to help clean our envrionment. An annual event such as ,,Teeme ära!" motivates people to go out, spend time with friends and family and have fun while cleaning up the trash. This event first took place in 2008 and is now one of the biggest worldwide environmental events. Estonian Commission on Sustainable Development is one of the organisations that is

that are in no danger of a lack of long-term availability. Some natural renewable resources such as geothermal power, fresh water, timber, and biomass must be carefully managed to avoid exceeding the worlds capability to displace them. Solar energy is the energy derived directly from the Sun. Along with nuclear energy, it is the most important source of energy on Earth. People usually use solar energy to produce electricity and heat. Wind power is the conversion of wind energy into a useful form of energy, such as electricity, using wind turbines. These wind turbines are popular in counties, where the average speed of the wind is at least 6 meters per second for example in Germany, Denmark, USA and India. Hydropower is energy derived from the movement of water in rivers and oceans,it can be used to generate electricity using turbines, or can be used mechanically to do useful work.

Animals and plants benefit us just by being there. These benefits, whichthat are called "ecosystem services", which most of us take for granted. Some of these services are obvious; fFor instance, there are the plants and animals that we eat. Meanwhile, photosynthetic plankton in the sea and green plants, provide us with the oxygen we breathe. organisms and plants and for all of us. First, we have to talk about the causes of water pollution. Domestic households, industrial and agricultural practices produce wastewater that can cause pollution of many lakes and rivers. Industry is a huge source of water pollution, it produces pollutants that are extremely harmful to people and the environment. Dumping of litter in the sea can also cause huge problems. Different items take different lengths of time to degrade in water. Oceans are polluted by oil on a daily basis from oil spills, everyday shipping and dumping. Secondly, it is very significant to know about dangers of water pollution. Virtually all types of water pollution are harmful to the health of humans and animals. There are many of them but I would like to point out the most important of them: air pollution, huge amounts of waste because of overconsumption and abuse of the natural resources. To begin with, air pollution is a big problem in big cities and in industrial areas. Air pollution is often caused by the exhaust fumes of the cars or by big factories. It affects nature and peoples health causing them breathing problems. Secondly, huge amounts of waste are being produced every day and it is all because of overconsumption. Although, in recent years peoples knowledge about recycling and using eco-friendly products have improved, there are more landfills in Estonia than ever before. The government should take some actions and instead of talking about recession, improve recycling programs. Last but not least, abuse of the natural resources is also a big problem in Estonia. Water pollution Secondly, water pollution is also a main issue. Many peole throw rubbish in rivers and lakes. Ships at the sea cause oil problems, where oil flows in the water and causes a lot of damage, like killing the sea animals and also birds, who are on the seacoast, where the oil reaches. When these problems continue, soon we won't be able to swim in a clean body of water and the drinking water becomes unusable. In some places there are floods after the snow melts or in autumn, when raining cause sea level rising. When water retreats, it brings along trash and rubbish from the streets in the sea or rivers. Many peole have built ramparts, to avoid the consequence of floods and also picked up rubbish from coasts, where seawaves have washed the trash.

The oil spill of the Exxon Valdez showed many around the world just how horrible the effects of water pollution could be. However, even the Exxon Valdez spill barely touched the surface of the problem of water pollution. The ship spilt only 5% of the oil spilt that year, and oil is just one of many pollutants that people dump into the water every year. Every year, 14 billions pounds of sewage, sludge, and garbage are dumped into the world's oceans. 19 trillion gallons of waste also enter the water annually. The problem of ocean pollution affects every nation around the world. This is especially true because water is able to transport pollution from one location to another. For many years, chemicals were dumped into bodies of water without concern. While many countries have now banned such behavior, it continues to go on today. As the world has industrialized and its population has grown, the problem of water pollution has intensified

....................13 Introduction What is nuclear power? Nuclear power is any nuclear technology designed to extract usable energy from atomic nuclei via controlled nuclear reactions. The most common method today is through nuclear fission, though other methods include nuclear fusion and radioactive decay. All utility-scale reactors heat water to produce steam, which is then converted into mechanical work for the purpose of generating electricity or propulsion. In 2007, 14% of the world's electricity came from nuclear power. More than 150 nuclear-powered naval vessels have been built, and a few radioisotope rockets have been produced. Nuclear life cycle The Nuclear Fuel Cycle begins when uranium is mined, enriched, and manufactured into nuclear fuel, which is delivered to a nuclear power plant. After usage in the power plant, the spent fuel is delivered to a reprocessing plant or to a final repository for geological disposition. In

That comes from cars. It makes me feel very ill. Then I just have to step on trash, because people can't wait and look for a bin. That's why our streets are so dirty. Everywhere I go, there are always some workmen building big houses. If we improved public transport or made electric cars, our streets wouldn't be so polluted. In Tallinn, for example, the air there is so polluted, that you can hardly breathe there. If the authorities put bins everywhere in the streets, our cities would be cleaner. The second thing is, that people still drop litter on the ground, even if there is a bin somewhere nearby. If we didn't build so much houses all around cities, we could save money from that and better build animal parks, green areas and playgrounds for children. If there were more green areas, people would have more oxygen. All in all, we must understand the importance of oxygen and where must litter go,

Our planet is changing and we need to help it change for the better. One way how to help the enviroment is saving energy. You should switch off anything, that uses electricity. If you’re not using it, then turn it off, it’s simple. This goes for lights, televisions and so on. Also try unplugging if possible, because even when an appliance is turned off, it still may use power. You could switch your light bulbs to LED light bulbs, because these are using less energy and even last longer. If you use renewable energy sources, you won’t cause burning fossil fuels, that causes pollution. Another way how to help the enviroment would be saving water
