Extended essay: To what extent does a plant-based diet lower the risk of coronary artery disease?

My sources include a wide variety of medical journals, studies and webpages. The Californian Seventh-day Adventists study found vegetarian men to have significantly lower risk of coronary artery disease compared to non-vegetarians whereas vegetarian women were at the highest risk. The Oxford vegetarian study, on the other hand, found all vegans and vegetarians to have lower mortality rates when it came to coronary artery disease. Vegans were found to have the lowest cholesterol levels, lowest saturated fat intake and highest dietary fiber intake which are all associated with lower risk of coronary artery disease. A positive correlation between plant based diets and higher mortality rates was found.

Heart and Lung Health

An inactive lifestyle is one of the major causes of heart diseases. While a lot of heart conditions occur when we are older, it is necessary to start exercising at a young age to keep our hearts strong as we age. Cardiovascular exercises like running, swimming, cycling, and aerobics are especially good for the heart, hence the name `cardiovascular'. These types of exercises help to maintain your blood pressure, reduce the bad cholesterol and increase the good cholesterol in your blood, reduce the risk of diabetes, and increase your endurance level so you don't easily run out of breath. Diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol are all conditions that the black individual is more susceptible to than most other races. Maintain a Healthy Weight: If you're on the internet reading this, you probably already know that exercise is vital to maintain a healthy weight. Any form of physical activity helps to burn calories stored in the body from the food we eat

food. It's so popular because for under $5.00 you can usually get a filling meal. However, fast food is inexpensive because it is usually made with cheaper ingredients such as high fat meat, refined grains, and added sugar and fats, instead of nutritious foods such as lean meats, fresh fruits, and vegetables. Is fast food bad? There is no such thing as a "bad" food. All foods can fit into a healthy meal plan. It's true that fast food is usually high in fat, calories, cholesterol and sodium, but eating fast food every once in a while is not going to cause you problems. If you eat too much fast food over a long period of time, though, it can lead to health problems like high blood pressure, heart disease, and obesity. Is some fast food healthier than others? Many fast food chains are revamping their menus to respond to customers comments. For example, some chains no longer serve foods with trans fat, and many have menu items that contain fruits and vegetables. If you

Firstly, vegetarians feel that there are certain advantages to be gained by not eating meat. They consider substitute foods such as soya, cereals and vegetables to be an even better source of protein than meat. I am going to talk about our exciting school day. Today it was different than usually. Different lectures started after the sixth lesson. There were more lectures, but unfortunately I couldn't attend them all. The themes of lectures were very interesting. Firstly, the lecture that was carried out by our local general practitioner. She talked about health in general and about the right diet. They showed us how to measure blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol. For me it was hard to focus on the lecture, because all the activities caused a lot of noise and it was hard to listen to the doctor. In my opinion the lecture was very instructive and educational. Secondly, the lecture that was carried out by Tallinn Genetic Engineering Institute's director. The subject of the lecture was very difficult. He discussed genetics in general, the history of DNA and genetic engineering's development. Genetics is a science of heredity. It's a very important part of

Based on today's knowledge, physical activity is essential for young people to achieve optimal growth and physical development, to prevent some health problems, as well as to social and mental development. Children who are inactive and who spend too much time in front of a screen watching television, playing computer video games or talking or typing on their phones have an increased risk of heart disease, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, obesity and diabetes. Inactivity may also adversely affect your child's muscle and bone development. However physical activity helps reduce the health risk of obesity in children and the associated chronic diseases. considered healthy diets. In most cases dieting is used in combination with physical exercise to lose weight in those who are overweight or obese. If you do not get regular exercise or a healthy diet, however, you may get overweight. Being overweight can have great effects on your health. It can increase risk of developing many health conditions. Such as gallbladder disease, heart disease, hypertension (high blood pressure), dyslipidemia (high cholesterol), stroke and even cancer. So if you don't want to be at risk for any of these diseases it is advised you get regular exercise and eat accordingly. Another great way to lead a healthy lifestyle is to get enough rest. As students, we must go to sleep early. This is to prevent us from being tired the next day. Therefore, we can give full concentration when our teachers are teaching us in class. A study shows that we must have atleast 8 hours of sleep

Interfering Factors External factors such as feeding schedule, sample processing, or medications can interfere with test results. A high-fat meal prior to evaluation of a serum chemistry analysis will alter values associated with lipid metabolism and cholesterol. Diuretics may affect sodium and potassium values. Cephalosporins may cause spurious serum creatinine levels. Corticosteroids and most all chemotherapy drugs severely decrease lymphocyte levels. Lipemia may decrease sodium levels, depending on the testing method used. Corticosteroids may increase alkaline phosphatase levels. If blood samples are not processed quickly after being drawn, glucose levels will often be artificially lowered. In general, if test results do not correlate with clinical

I took a big swig of Malbec and read the blog comment again. Ah, the Internet. How far we haven't come. It was amusing, and one of hundreds of similar comments on this particular blog post, but the fact remained: I had gained 34 pounds of muscle, lost 4 pounds of fat, and decreased my total cholesterol from 222 to 147, all in 28 days, without anabolics or statins like Lipitor. The entire experiment had been recorded by Dr. Peggy Plato, director of the Sport and Fitness Evaluation Program at San Jose State University, who used hydrostatic weighing tanks, medical scales, and a tape measure to track everything from waist circumference to bodyfat percentage.
