In My Story, Monroe recalls her mother "screaming and laughing" as she was forcibly removed to the State Hospital in Norwalk. According to My Sister Marilyn, Gladys's brother, Marion, hung himself upon his release from an asylum, and Della's father did the same in a fit of depression. Norma Jeane was declared a ward of the state, and Gladys' best friend, Grace McKee (later Goddard) became her guardian. After McKee married in 1935, Norma Jeane was sent to the Los Angeles Orphans Home (later renamed Hollygrove), and then to a succession of foster homes.[15] The Goddards were about to move to the east coast and could not take Monroe. For this reason the early Christians were regarded as dangerous enemies of the Empire. That ceased when the emperor Constantine converted to Christianity. Christianity became the official state religion of the Roman Empire in the early fourth century A.D. As the century progressed Christianity spread very quickly. Despite official recognition there was no mass conversion to Christianity; worship of the pagan gods and goddesses was not even formally banned until late in the fourth century. *Boadicea/Boudica At his death bed, Boudica's husband left half his possession to the emperor, expecting that this would protect his family. "Ender's game"

Though Card is best-known for "Ender's Game", he has also written in a variety of other genres, including plays, short stories, books on writing, the Homecoming series, other science fiction books, and nonfiction, such as articles on computer technology. Orson Scott Card in 2008 and when he was younger. The Setting The novel starts off on Earth, with scenes at the school and the Wiggin home. Little attention is given to the details of this setting, not even the name of the city, and so it comes across as a standard American neighborhood. A shuttle is used as a background in the fourth chapter. It has small narrow corridors and the walls of the rooms were carpeted as floors. The importance of the shuttle is that Ender learned something about orientation in zero gravity and that knowledge helped him a lot later. Most of the time passes in Battle School, which is composed of army barracks with rows of

about being a part of the new world and its current workings. Although the writer is originally from Normandy, and later Canada, he seems to truly grasp the changes in American society and how vastly different it is from Europe. Crevecoeur explains that America is a literal melting pot for people of all religions. He states that "the Americans become as to religion what they are as a country, allied to all". When Crevecoeur describes the religions of the nation he makes note of the fact that even if the people of a certain "sect" do not practice the same religion as the newcomers, that "neither the government nor any other power interferes", showing the great tolerance that America has for all. The "indifference" of America is quite different from the way society is in Europe during the 17001800's. During the Enlightenment the people of America appear to come to the realization that although religions may be different in some ways, they are also similar in others

The Witch Trials in Salem

It was believed that a witch often joined a pact with the devil to gain powers to deal with infertility, immense fear for her children's well-being, or revenge against a lover. The long-term result of amalgamation of distinct types of magic-worker into one is the considerable present-day confusion as to what witches actually did, whether they harmed or healed, what role they had in the community, whether they can be identified with the "witches" of other cultures and even whether they existed as anything other than a projection. Present-day beliefs about the witches of history attribute to them elements of the folklore witch, the charmer, the cunning man or wise woman, the diviner and the astrologer. Powers typically attributed to European witches include turning food poisonous or inedible, flying on broomsticks or pitchforks, casting spells, cursing people, making livestock ill and crops fail, and creating fear and local chaos.

It consists of a shield containing the badges of six Australian states, enclosed by an ermine border. The shield is a symbol for the federation of the states, which took place in 1901. The crest, which is above the shield, is a seven-pointed gold star on a blue and gold wreath. The seven points of the star represent exactly the same thing that they do on the flag. The supporters of the shield are native Australian animals: the red kangaroo and the emu. Usually the coat of arms is depicted on the background of sprays of golden wattle with a scroll beneath it containing the word `Australia'. Australia's national anthem is `Advance Australia Fair', which replaced `God Save the Queen' in 1984. It was written by a Scottish-born composer, Peter Dodds McCormick. The
