Summary Education

Education The education system is a little bit different in the UK than ours. For example they have go to school 2 years earlier than us. Primary school is for pupils aged 5-11. Though schooling is only compulsory from age 5 in the UK, children most commonly enter Reception Class aged 4 in the academic year in which they will reach their 5th birthday. When pupils are aged 7 they sit Key Stage 1 [SATs]. Key Stage 2 SATs are taken when pupils are aged 11. Secondary school is for pupils aged 11-16. 11-13 years old pupils study a broad range of 10–15 subjects. No public examinations are taken during this time. Traditionally, at the age of 14 students start a programme that lasts for 2 years and during which time they study up to 11 subjects of their choice. After this students take GCSE state examinations After 16 attending at school isn't compulsory but pupils can stay at school, go to coll...

How can we make our cities more environmentally friendly

How can we make our cities more environmentally friendly?

How can we make our cities more environmentally friendly? If I walk along the city streets, I feel a terrible smell. That comes from cars. It makes me feel very ill. Then I just have to step on trash, because people can't wait and look for a bin. That's why our streets are so dirty. Everywhere I go, there are always some workmen building big houses. If we improved public transport or made electric cars, our streets wouldn't be so polluted. In Tallinn, for example, the air there is so polluted, that you can hardly breathe there. If the authorities put bins everywhere in the streets, our cities would be cleaner. The second thing is, that people still drop litter on the ground, even if there is a bin somewhere nearby. If we didn't build so much houses all around cities, we could save money from that and better build animal parks, green areas and playgrounds for children. If there were more green areas, people would have more...

My unforgettable chilhood experience

My Most Unforgettable Childhood Experience I was spending my holiday in my summer cottage. It was a warm night and we were playing cards i my friend's balcony. It was about 1o'clock a.m. and we were getting sleepy. We decided to go to sleep and as my parents were already sleeping , I had to go home by myself. There is a forest near our house and a little lamp with green shimmer leads into the forest. When I looked straight to it, I saw a man in a black coat, who was standing in a green light. At the same time my friend shouted something to me and I turned my head. When I looked back the man had dissapeared. I was terrified and ran home. I was still trembling when I got in to my bed. In the morning I was retelling the story to my parents and when I finished, they gave me a big hug to me. When I asked, what was going on they said that they're really happy that I...

Fairy tale

Once upon a time there was a boy named Sebastian. He had a gorgeous mother, who was very kind and helpful, her name was Cassy. One late night an old woman came to their door. How can we increase the quality of breathable air? Essee

How can we increase the quality of breathable air? “I’ll go out for a breath of fresh air” is an often-heard phrase. But how many of us realize that this has become irrelevant in today’s world? Air pollution is the addition of any harmful substances to the atmosphere, which causes the damaging of the environment, human health and the quality of life. Firstly, we should use green methods of powering like wind energy and landfill gas energy. This would reduce the amount of harmful gases. Another useful suggestion would be to plant trees. In this way we can increase the source of breathable oxygen. Unfortunately, many companies are contributing to deforestation. Finally, it would help if we put taxes on carbon emissions or higher taxes on gasoline. In this way people and companies will have greater incentives to conserve energy and pollute less. In conclusion, there are many ways to ...

How to make the world greener

How to make the world greener As the time goes on, people keep polluting the world more and more till the last decade or so when green living has reached a huge audience and a lot of organisations have been established aswell as a lot of online sites like greenerworld.com which help you save the environment. The main reason the global pollution has risen lately is because of the enormous growth in world population. Some scientists predict that we will reach ten billion people count by the year 2050, but who knows, maybe by then we have used up all the irrecoverable resources and have to move half the population to the moon and Mars to start contaminating them also. Countries like China have taken measures to stop the population. A chinese family can only have one child and if they go above the limit they have to pay a fine even though richer families don't care much for that. So even though there's a very big fine about 90´000 families...

Kiri sõbrale (teema tervislik toitumine)

Dear Alice, Date: I received your nice letter and I understood that you're interested in healthy lifstyle. If you want to start, I suggest to start checking what you eat. You should eat a lot of fruits, fresh vegetables and "green stuff", because fresh food contains most of the necessary vitamins. I don't forbid you from anything, but I think you should avoid fries, hamburgers, potato chips and sweets. Did you know, that it is important to eat everything you like, but in the right amount - not too much and not too little? It is not good for you to think too much about your weight, it is too stressful. Just have whatever you like, but control yourself - veggies instead of fries, etc. A good workout is the second most important thing in leading a healthy lifstyle. I suggest you to go jogging, it is pleasant and at the same time, cheap. You should exercise at lea...

The Crucial Problems of the World

The Crucial Problems of the World There are many problems in the world right at this time. One of the biggest and maybe the one which people talk about the most is the waste and recycling problem. As we all know, humankind is producing more waist than we can handle, reproduce and recycle. Even in here, Estonia, people are thinking of building a nuclear power station, because fossil fuel is soon depleted. The other problem, a little bit connected to the first one, is the greenhouse effect. The light from the Sun reaches us and after that the light reflexes from the Earth's surface back to the space, but thanks to the pollution, it absorbs and reflexes back to us again, causing global warming. The third problem is the fastly growing population. There are now more than 7 milliard people in the world and the number is still getting bigger. Crime

Crime In the sociological field, crime is the breach of a rule or law for which some governing authority or force may ultimately prescribe a punishment. The word crime originates from the Latin crimen. Even in society there are always black sheep and these people are called 'criminals'. Estonia is a relatively safe country, although there are some situations, where people should be more careful crime has been increased lately. We could count different type of crimes, but most common are smuggling and robberies. Many people like something, what do not belong to them. On the one hand, news are talking about shoplifting, bank robbery and vandalism. When looking for the reasons why people commit crimes I can only say what I believe to be sure of, and it is that individuals go against laws because they choose so, as criminal behaviour is a matter of choice. People want to have somebody`s things...

The first tourists can see many famous war sites, towns and vibrant green paddy fields. But if they go up into the hills they find a region inhabited by hill tribe people, who live basic, subsistence life. Local people are looking at tourists with fear and disdain. In the villages children are playing and mothers with elaborate headdresses are getting on their daily lives, but if tourists come, they run indoors and villages become silent. In Thailand hill tribe treks have become infamous ,,human zoos". Tourists from all over the world traipse through the villages and this causes cultural and economic disaster. Also the benefits of toursim are often skimmed off by businessmen from outside the community. It ruins and changes the local people...

Pessimism vs optimism

Pessimism vs. Optimism Different approaches to the ‘population-resources’ debate Malthus Task: View figure 13.57 (page 378 of Waugh). Draw the graph and discuss. Malthus believed that there was a finite optimum population in relation to food supply and that an increase beyond that point would lead to a decline in living standards and to war, famine and disease.  An increase in the population above the optimum limit would therefore lead to war, famine and disease. A PESSIMISTIC approach  Thomas Malthus (1798) proposed his work during the early stages of the industrial revolution when inadequate food and clothing were common features in England.  His argument was that population increases (geometrically) or at an exponential rate if unchecked i.e. 1-2-4-8- 16-32 etc  Food supply at best increases at an arithmetic rate i.e.1-2-3-4-5-6 etc ...

English literature

1. Beowulf. The dating of Beowulf is still controversial. The poem is one of the earliest and greatest monuments of the Germanic literatures. The main stories of the poem (the fights of B.) are versions of common folk-tales, but the poet also introduces many incidental stories, some of which belong to the world of ancient Germanic legend. He writes his folk-tales and legends in a web of other events, mainly set in the Baltic Kingdoms. He shows a very rich and leisurely portrayal of this Baltic world, providing many customs like the close relationship between lord and man in the war-band and others. All this encouraged the supposition that the unknown author of the poem was himself a bard of the ancient type portrayed within the poem (a lord's scoop). However, many people propose that the author could be Christian poet, perhaps a monk, versed not only in old native traditions, but also in the culture and literatur...

Healthy lifestyle

Healthy lifestyle How many of you believe that they lead a healthy life? Through century´s people have desired immortality. From beggars to emperors, everybody has been looking for an easy way to live forever. And even if they realized, that it is impossible, they started searching for ways to live longer. Finally they realized, that the only ones shortening our life are ourselves. We do it to ourselves. That's why everybody started living healthy. But is living a healthy life an easy way of living? In my point of view a healthy lifestyle is only healthy, when one does it in the right amount. You can do more damage to your body if you don't do it correctly. For example you can start working out. Start running, Go to gym etc. But if you start a green tea diet at the same time, then there is a high chance that you are going to spend your life in a hospital rather than leading a healthy one. I believe that living healthy doesn't mean that...

You mean it's possible to ignore the Green Party, but you can't ignore their policies when a general consensus of people come to support them? Exactly. Once the level of benefit is higher than their take-home pay, why should they do a job? Precisely, but the answer isn't to remove benefits from those who really need them. 5.2 Expressing conditional agreement I'd agree with you if the purpose of hell was to rehabilitate people back into heaven, but hell is usually associated with torture and damnation.
