The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde (1854-1900) Introduction The Picture of Dorian Gray came out in 1891, in Estonian 1929. It is the only published novel written by Oscar Wilde and also considered as a classic gothic horror fiction with a little bit of philosophy in it. I decided to read this book in Estonian, because I have two books in this language available at home. The book I read was published by Eesti Päevaleht in 2007 and it consists of 184 pages. The story is centred on Dorian Gray, a young man of great beauty and on his portrait, painted by Basil Hallward. The Review Twilight is the story of Edward and Bella's romance. Forget any vampire romance you have read before, Twilight is so unique it is almost like it's in its own genre. The book is marketed at Young Adult readers but it has the ability to cross age barriers and will satisfy both teenagers and adults alike. The story is told in first person from the perspective of Bella, so the reader only ever know what she knows, making Edward and his family a mystery that is slowly unravelled through out the book. Even by the end of the book I was still thirsting for more of the Cullen family back story - hopefully their characters might be developed further in future books. Bella herself is a well written and realistic character, shy and lacking in confidence, her sarcastic inner voice narrates the story for the reader. Twilight is simply and yet beautifully written. The descriptions of Forks leave you feeling like you can almost smell the damp air and hear the rain falling on the roof. T

Story about English humor At first, I have to say that English humor is very frightening and quite shocking for us, Estonians. But if to talk about British people and their humor then for them, it's more than everyday life. It is something they are use to see and hear every day, day after another. They do not take it that serious as the other nationalities would and they are definitely the best laughers at themselves. The brightest memory I have from those two videos is that guy in the wheelchair. Unbelievable how selfish and rude they are! And no-one can do anything about that. If they say so then all the people around them have to act like they wish. They are absolutely innocently taking the advantage of other innocent people. Certainly we cannot talk about all disabled people from that point of view, but the exception affirms the rule. And in Britain, you can find a lot of exceptions.

When I was a child the things that pleased me were largely other than the plants which have earned me a living as an adult. For example, I collected postage stamps, played basketball, was fond of listening to music, played all manner of games, but dealt only in a neutral, uninspired fashion with plants. The one thing that was constant and of supreme importance was my love of reading. I don't recall why, but by an early age, say age 9, I was a phenomenal reader of books, a habit that persisted all the way until college. Reading expands one's mind immensely. It fires the imagination, demonstrates grammar, teaches vocabulary, informs, challenges, helps one relax. In some cases it forces the mind to concentrate, as to understand. There are also many things made for Lydia's memory. For example there's a memorial stone for her. In Pärnu there is a memorial museum. It's a house museum and Lydia used to live there when she was a little girl. She was on an Estonia's 100 crown bank note which is a really big thing because she was the only woman that has ever been on a bank note. Estonian writers have given a big influence to our nowadays writers. They have given motivation to keep writing and inspiration and themes to write about. Some of nowadays writers for example: Merle Jääger also known as Merca is one of the most original writers of our time. She is really rebellious and is mostly known for her punk poetry. Diana Leesalu writes youth novels and I chose her because I have read her books and these are really well written. Ketlin Priilinn writes for children, teenagers and adults also. I think it's a big thing if you are able to write for people who are from so different age categories.
My ideal job When I graduate university, I would like to become a teacher. I want to teach Estoninan language and literature. I want to teach highschool students. I’d like to teach in my hometown, Tartu. I want to become a teacher beacause I like kids. Also, I like to teach and explain. Literature was my favourite subject in school. I like almost all books from compulsory literature. Especially I like „Master and Margarita“ and „Dorian Gray“. I think it is very important to read books, especially young people should read.
