CLOSING KALARAND FOR PUBLIC

Essay in Expository Writing Supervisor: Tallinn 2015 Kalarand is a part of Kalamaja district in Tallinn, it is a unique beach in the city centre, only few hundred meters from the Old Town. While being close to the city centre, it still has a remote area atmosphere to it where people could enjoy the seaside and views in a car-free environment. While not officially a public beach, the locals have still put in great effort into keeping it a clean and enjoyable public area (Klementi, 2011). In August 2015 historic Kalarand beach was fenced by Pro Kapital and public was denied access despite laws against such conduct. The action of Pro Kapital, one of the leading real estate developers in Estonia, is reminiscent of Soviet times when citizens where denied access to seaside. In order to solve

Where I'm From - poem/luuletus

Where I'm From I'm not from a country of fortune and fame, I'm just from a group that thinks it's a game. I'm not from a place of emotional flow, But more from a place where nothing will show. I am from the seaside, I'm waiting for tide, The amount of their feelings that people will hide. I am from a country with a colorful past, "How long?" they said, "How long will it last?" Dark clouds sent by gods as they form in the sky, Like millions of people on the streets walking by. Now, imagine that people would become extinct, Their knowledge, their data all lost in a blink. But maybe our lives are not what they seem, Maybe, just maybe, it's all just a dream.

People like to travel during their summer holidays. Some people go abroad to see new countries, some people prefer to go to the country- side to enjoy country-life far from noise and fuss of big cities. Other people like staying at home doing nothing, but watching TV and playing computer games. Some people like to spend their holidays in cities, visiting theatres, museums and going sightseeing. But a great number of people go to the seaside. As for me, I prefer to go on holiday to the seaside. I do not like crowds. My family and I always have our holiday on the coast. Sea and sunbathes, that is what we look forward to every summer. Hotels at the large seaside towns are rather expensive, so we usually go camping. Last year we spent our holidays in a camp. Each day was full of small joys. We swam in the sea, lay in the sun, played different games and had a wonderful time. We lived there for about a month

Estonian holidays, festivals, cultural events

Holidays, Festivals, Cultural events TALLINN - If you're looking for entertainment in Estonia this summer, you are really spoiled for choice. Festivals and events dedicated to the consumption of beer are a lot of fun, but if you want to get the true feel of the country, you need something a little more ethnic. Like a town fair. Just as July becomes August, the seaside town of Haapsalu will host a grand spectacle of rural Estonian entertainment. The White Lady Days is a summer celebration filled with amusement for all the family. Held in and around the remains of the Teutonic-knights-era castles, the fair combines enchanting medieval legends with modern countryside charm to create a comprehensive experience of Estonia beyond the big cities.

ESTONIAN SYMPHONIC MUSIC. THE FIRST CENTURY 1896-1996.

Being a graduate from the St. Petersburg Conservatoire (1920) he was especially impressed by the music of Alexander Scriabin: later when visiting Paris, he took a serious interest in the modern currents of European music. The tone poem Viirastused (Ghosts) was an artistic reflection of his visit to the famous Paris underground cemetery. His period of renewal was introduced by the tone poem Öö hüüded (Night Calls, 1920), inspired by the impressions of a stormy night he spent in an empty seaside summer cottage.2 The restlessness of the main theme becomes menacing: Example 25. 1 Juhan Aavik. Eesti muusika ajalugu III (History of Estonian Music III) (Stockholm: Kirjastus Eesti Lauljaskond Rootsis, 1969) 29. 2 First performance in Tartu’s Vanemuine Theatre, 8 Apr. 1921, the orchestra was conducted by the composer. The contrasting second image exerts an almost epic influence: Example 26.
