Aforismid (inglise keeles)

221. It is by the goodness of God that in our country we have those three unspeakably precious things: freedom of speech, freedom of conscience, and the prudence never to practice either of them. 222. I did not attend his funeral; but I wrote a nice letter saying I approved of it. 223. The radical invents the views. When he has worn them out, the conservative adopts them. 224. Reader, suppose you were an idiot. And suppose you were a member of Congress. But I repeat myself. 225. He was an incorrigible borrower of money; he borrowed from all his friends; if he ever repaid a loan the incident failed to pass into history. 226. By trying we can easily learn to endure adversity. Another man's, I mean. 227. When I was a boy of fourteen, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be twenty-one, I was astonished at how much he had learned in seven years. 228. The reports of my death are greatly exagerated.

Aforismid

Nobody's perfect and since I'm nobody... I'm not myself today. Maybe I'm you.

CHANGE YOUR THINKING CHANGE YOUR LIFE

like yourself, the more you make your decisions based on your own goals and standards, and the less you care what others think or say. ■ CONTROL YOUR INNER DIALOGUE Just as you become what you think about, you also become what you say to yourself. The most powerful words you can repeat to yourself, especially if you are feeling tense or uneasy about an upcoming event, are the words, “I like myself! I like myself! I like myself!” Whenever you say, “I like myself!” your fears diminish and your courage increases. The words, “I like myself!” are so powerful and positive that they are immediately accepted by your subconscious mind as a command. They instantly affect your thoughts, feelings, and attitudes. Your body language immediately improves, and you stand straighter

Cialdini raamat

B.C. Introduction I can admit it freely now. All my life I've been a patsy. For as long as I can recall, I've been an easy mark for the pitches of peddlers, fund-raisers, and operators of one sort or another. True, only some of these people have had dishonorable motives. The others-representatives of certain charitable agencies, for instance-have had the best of intentions. No matter. With personally disquieting frequency, I have al- ways found myself in possession of unwanted magazine subscriptions or tickets to the sanitation workers' ball. Probably this long-standing status as sucker accounts for my interest in the study of compliance: Just what are the factors that cause one person to say yes to another person? And which techniques most effectively use these factors to bring about such compliance? I have wondered why it is that a re- quest stated in a certain way will be rejected, but a request that asks for the same

rigidified descriptions, such as "the actual winner of the 1968 election" as opposed to just "the winner of the 1968 election"; the former description is rigid, because "the actual winner" means the winner in this (our) world, and refers to that same person at any other world regardless of whether he won there. On this view, names are rigid though they are not Millian. (See also Jackson 1998.) Michael Devitt (1989, 1996) has offered a radical revision of Frege's notion of sense. I myself (Lycan 1994) have offered a much subtler, more beautiful and more effective weakened version of DR, but it would be immodest of me to tout it here.6 We must now make a crucial distinction. So far in this chapter we have been talking about the semantics of proper names, that is, about theories of what names contribute to the meanings of sentences in which they occur. DR in particular takes for granted the idea of a name's referent or bearer. But then a separate question is

menstruation, late menopause and previous suffering from cancer. Nevertheless it is possible to reduce the risk by eating healthy, quitting smoking and drinking moderate amounts of alcohol. The most interesting fact to find out was that men can also suffer from breast cancer. 40 Writing this paper helped me understood better what cancer really is and gave me a chance to educate myself on the treatment possibilities. It became clear how to check oneself and which are the symptoms that may occur if one has breast cancer. Because I got all the answers to my questions I concider achieving the purpose of this paper a success, although the subject is not nearly covered, there are still quite a few directions that can be researched more thorough. 41

I never wake up myself, my mother always wakes me up. Sometimes I do my morning exercises, then I rush to the bathroom. I clean my teeth, wash my face. The cold water makes me feel not so sleepy. Then I go back to my room, make the bed. I switch on my radio, usually I listen to radio. I put on my clothes, comb my hair, put a little make-ups. By that time my breakfast is ready (my mother cooks it for me). At a quarter to eight I grab my bag and rush to my school

Dimitriu - When we are the other

In Murphy's narrative, a character whose English was utterly idiosyncratic utters the following discourse: In Australia they don't receive me because I have no money and no any friend there. [. . .] Please forgive me for my English is not good. [. . .] But I learned myself, to give me more chance . . . We are poor people but we have rich hearts! (Murphy, 1992, p. 89) The narrator's response in this case is one of compassion and understanding, but the discourse generates its own implications and speaks for itself.

main supposition would have been proved, and established with all that evidence of arguments, that such a fundamental tenet required; and that this, on which the great stress of the business depends, would have been made out with reasons sufficient to justify the confidence with which it was assumed. But in all that treatise, I could find very little tending that way; the thing is there so taken for granted, without proof, that I could scarce believe myself, when, upon attentive reading that treatise, I found there so mighty a structure raised upon the bare supposition of this foundation: for it is scarce credible, that in a discourse, where he pretends to confute the erroneous principle of man's natural freedom, he should do it by a bare supposition of Adam's authority, without offering any proof for that authority. Indeed he confidently says, that Adam had royal authority, p. 12, and 13. Absolute lordship and dominion of life and death, p. 13

regret at not having a partner with whom to share and to witness their experiences. Hoping to find a life partner through the course of his travels, Barry (English, 32) lamented: ‘I’m travelling solo and it’s hard sometimes. I want to share my adventures with somebody.’ Jackie (English, 26) went so far as to openly question when her roving might end: That’s the question I’ve been asking myself. When will it stop? Because there are certain things you can’t do if you’re a traveller. It’s difficult to have a serious relationship, and at some point, I’d like to have a family. In contrast to serious relationships, participants frequently cited the ease with which ‘situational’ or ‘expendable friendships’ (Adler & Adler, 1999) are formed whilst backpacking. Further to seeking enduring relationships, the participants often sought ways of

Then fill in the table below with the complaints and the justification. Dear Sir/Madam, I want to express my strong dissatisfaction with the service I received during a visit to your restaurant on December 12th. Firstly, I had booked a table f or my wife and myself for 8:30, but it was 9 o'clock before we were seated. Such a delay seems to me inexcusable. Then, in spite of the fact that I had repeated our order to check that the waiter had heard me correctly, he proceeded to bring us the wrong starters. Such careless service should not be tolerated in a restaurant which charges such high prices. To make matters worse, the chocolate gateau we were served or dessert was quite stale. The menu claimed, though, that all desserts were freshly prepared that day

ESTONIAN SYMPHONIC MUSIC. THE FIRST CENTURY 1896-1996.

From a historical standpoint we can divide the evolution of Estonian symphonic music into four periods: Russian Empire 1896-1918; Republic of Estonia 1918-1940; Soviet occupation 1940-1991; and the re-established independent Republic of Estonia since 1991. The latter period, however, began with some difficulties and serious problems. It is important to note that during the period 1908-2000 Estonian composers wrote 144 symphonies. This great number serves as motivation to confine myself to orchestral works. Moreover, this number may be somewhat larger if we take into account that I have no exact information about the activities of all Estonian composers living outside Estonia. From this uneven and variegated whole I had to choose works worthy of attention. Thus I have had to treat the symphonists in the same manner. I apologise if a colleague does not find his name mentioned. The volume for this extensive work is limited

"Anna Karenina" kokkuvõte

What can it all lead to? You were drinking at the club, drinking and gambling, and then you went...to her of all people! No, we must go away...I shall go away tomorrow.' It was a long while before Levin could soothe his wife." Once the two talk about it, they reconcile their problem and move along to sleep. This does not happen with Anna and Vronsky. Anna is too insecure; she thinks Vronsky wants everyone but her. To get Vronsky's attention, she tells him she is "near disaster and afraid of myself." This indicates that Anna has spiraled entirely out of control, and that almost anything could happen to her. She keeps mentioning a certain "spirit of strife" that exists in her bond with Vronsky, both in her heart and in his. Chapters 13-17 Kitty gives birth. Levin finds the whole experience surreal, and Kitty finds it entirely peaceful, even though she is in a great deal of pain. When he first sees his newborn son, Levin is surprised by what he feels: pain

you think of these decipherers? Have you tried your hand at it, as much as you know how to?" Alberti smiled. He knew that Date's duties included ciphers (it was before the curia had a separate cipher secretary). "You're the head of the papel secretariat," he teased. "Could it be that you had to use these things a few times in matters of great importance to His Holiness?" "That's why I brought it up," Dato replied candidly. "And because of the post I have, I want to be able to do it myself without having to use outside interpreters. For when they bring me letters in cipher intercepted by spies, it's no joking matter. So please—if you've thought up any new ideas having to do with this business, tell me about them." So Alberti promised that he would do some work on it so that Dato would see that it was profitable to have asked him, and the result was the essay that he wrote in 1466 or early 1467, when he was 62 or 63.

The Russian Angoras had green rather than blue, eyes. A letter from M Lottin de la Val, President of the Imperial Acclimatation Society, to the President of the French Zoological Society in 1856 stated, "When you recently did me the honour of calling on me, you imparted the recently held view that the so called 'Angora' cat does not exist or could not exist except in the vicinity of ancient Ancyra. I hasten to dispel this illusion. I myself came upon specimens of that lovely feline species in the great Armenian plateau, at Erzerum, where the climate is greatly different from that of Angora. The species is very numerous at Mourch in Kurdistan, where it is the dominant variety. I also found it at Billis and in the pashalik of Bayazit.. The finest specimens, however, which I saw belonged to the Archbishop of Van, a town in the east of Kurdistan, on the frontier of Azerbaidjan. He had
