provincial authority, clergy and nobility in Northern Estonia. Most of the vassals chose Toompea for their residence – living in their estates in the conquered countryside was deemed too dangerous; by the end of the 13th century the Great Castle was densely populated. Toompea has a radial net of streets – all streets start at the Dome Church Square and stretch to the walls of the fortifications. In 1684 Toompea suffered the most devastating fire of its history. Toompea had been affected by fires in earlier years, but the fire of 1684 was much larger in scale, destroying most of the buildings in the Great Castle, including the cathedral. The Small Castle escaped the fire intact. The fires are one reason why Toompea looks architecturally different and newer than the Lower Town. Toompea Castle A wooden fortification was originally built on the same hill in the 9th century, but

The Great Plague In London

After that I will describe how people dealt with the plague and what the government decided to do with the corpses. Subsequently I will write about plague doctors, what they wore as a protection against the plague, how people invented different techniques to fight the plague and what the City Corporation did with cats and dogs. Finally, I will share the wisdom what I acquired on the fading point of the plague and how people thought that the Great Fire of London put an end to the Great Plague. 2 1 BUBONIC PLAGUE Bubonic plague also known has Black Death got its name from the symptoms because the victim's skin turned black. The plague spread from animals to humans by fleas. Nowadays bubonic plague does not spread to advanced countries which are located in Europe. Last greater plague outbreak was in Kongo Democratic Republic. (Wikipedia homepage: http://et.wikipedia.org/wiki/Katk) 1.1 Symptoms

most attractive buildings in London. It stands on the site where Edward the Confessor had the original palace built in the first half of the eleventh century . In 1547 the royal residence was moved to Whitehall Palace, but the Lords continued to meet at Westminster, while the commons met in St. Stephen's Chapel. Ever since these early times, the Palace of Westminster has been home to the English Parliament. In 1834 there was a huge fire that destroyed much of the old palace. All that remained was the chapel crypt, The Jewel Tower and Westminster Hall. It was Lord Melbourne, the Prime Minister, who saved the great hall by arranging for the fire engines to be brought right into the hall and personally supervising the fire fighting operation. The magnificent Gothic Revival masterpiece you see today was built between 1840 and 1888, this was the work of Charles Barry who designed the buildings to

too much snow, so the tree drops its leaves. New ones will grow in the spring.; trees have thick bark to protect against cold winters. Temperate rainforest- epiphytes such as mosses and ferns grow atop other plants to reach light. Cool temperatures lead to slow decomposition but seedlings grow on "nurse logs" to take advantage of the nutrients from the decomposing fallen logs. Trees can grow very tall due to amount of precipitation. Temperate Grassland (Prairie)- During a fire, while above-ground portions of grasses may perish, the root portions survive to sprout again. Some prairie trees have thick bark to resist fire. Prairie shrubs readily resprout after fire. Roots of prairie grasses extend deep into the ground to absorb as much moisture as they can extensive root systems prevent grazing animals from pulling roots out of the ground. Prairie grasses have narrow leaves which lose less water than broad leaves.

wrongdoing. After killing Payne and several enemy snipers in an isolated mountain range and rescuing Sarah, Swagger and Memphis finally surrender to the FBI. Later appearing in a closed meeting with the Director of the FBI and the United States Attorney General present, Swagger clears his name by loading a rifle round (supplied by Memphis) into his rifle (which is there as evidence since it was supposedly used in the killing), aiming it at the Colonel and pulling the trigger, which fails to fire the round. Swagger explains that every time he leaves his house, he removes the firing pins from all his guns, replacing them with slightly shorter ones, thus rendering them unable to fire until he returns. Although Swagger is exonerated, Colonel Johnson cannot be charged with a crime as the Ethiopian genocide is outside American legal jurisdiction and he walks free. The attorney general approaches Swagger and states that, as a law enforcement official, he must abide by the law

Traditional Crow shelters are tipis made with bison skins stretched over wooden poles. The Crow are historically known to construct some of the largest tipis. Inside the tipi, mattresses and buffalo-hide seats were arranged around the edge, with a fireplace in the center. The smoke from the fire escaped through a hole in the top of the tipi. Many Crow families still own and use the tipi, especially when traveling. The annual Crow Fair has been described as the largest gathering of tipis in the world. building. Windows, statues, carvings and the nave roof were destroyed. During the war, the Parliamentary army used the nave to stable their horses and later the porch of the Cathedral was rented to small businesses. In 1660 King Charles II was restored to the throne. By this time St Paul's was in a desperate state so Christopher Wren was consulted about repairs to restore its former grandeur. Before the recommended repairs could be undertaken, the cathedral was destroyed in the Great Fire of London in 1666. The ruins were demolished and a new design by Wren, the one we see today, was built. The only surviving artifact from the old Cathedral was a statue of John Donne which can now be seen in the South Aisle. Building was completed 1710. During the Second World War's Blitz, St Paul's Cathedral became a great symbol of how Londoners could 'take it'. After each night's bombing, there was St Paul's, still intact. That is not to say it survived unscathed

To prevent such a disaster happening again the king commanded that all new houses in London should be of stone and brick not wood. In 1834 Parliament was destroyed by fire. The new parliament included a great clock, which is now known as Big Ben. In the 19th century new museums were created in London such as the Victoria & Albert, the Science

ideals of independence and freedom. St John's Day marks a change in the farming year, specifically the break between the completion of spring sowing and the hard work of summer haymaking. Midsummer's eve is important for lovers. Among Estonian fairy tales and literature there is the tale of two lovers, Koit and Hämarik. The tradition before the Soviet occupation, which has now been restored, was for a fire to be lit by the Estonian President on the morning of Victory Day. From this fire, the flame of independence was carried across the country to light the many bonfires. St John's Day became an unofficial holiday, with many work places closing down. It once again became an official national holiday in 1992. On Jaaniõhtu, Estonians all around the country will gather with their families, or at larger events

becomes clear that her illness had been caused by poor diet and cruel treatment. Consider the role of Jane's aunt and cousin. These characters are untrustworthy and cruel in the book and the film. For instance, the scene in which Jane is physically assaulted by her cousin appears in both book and film. Consider the importance of Sarah Poole. In the book, Jane suspects she is the person responsible for the fire and the stabbing at Thornfield Hall. In the film, Sarah is hardly mentioned. Adele talks about a mysterious woman who appears at night but this plot line is not developed further in the film. Evaluate the portrayal of Jane's strength of character. Many factors showing that she is a strong woman are present in the book and the film. For example, Edward Rochester asks Jane Eyre to detail her "tale of woe" but she refuses

The ground floor was a storage floor and here was also the initial entrance. This floor had a narrow light and airshaft and no embrasures. On the upper, defence floors the guns were rigged in embrasures that were provided with niches for the logs that served to stop the backlash.

Tartu ajalugu

Bridges Tartu Stone Bridge In the 18th century the first stone bridge in the Baltics was built at the end of the Town Hall Square, with two triumph arches and a lifting centre, which was dedicated to Catherine II and was opened for traffic in 1784. The bridge was destroyed in World War II, now it can only be admired by way of the model bridge, which was created in 2004. Tartu was hit by a great fire in 1775, during the course of which a large part of the city center burned down. Catherine II ordered the restoration of the town and assigned 25,000 rubles for building the stone bridge. The bridge was meant as her gift to the town of Tartu. Preparatory work was begun in the spring of 1776, and the bridge was completed and opened for traffic in 1784. The Stone Bridge became one of the symbols of Tartu. In 1941 the Soviet forces blew up the bridge, and in 1944 the last remaining part was

Topic - London

After the defeat of the Spanish Armada, stability in politics allowed the city to grow even more. In 1603, James VI of Scotland came to the throne of England, essentially uniting the two countries. An assassination attempt was made on him on the 5th of November in 1605, now known as the famous Gunpowder Plot. Plague caused more problems for London later in that century, culminating in the Great Plague. That was the last major outbreak in Europe, possibly thanks to the Great Fire of London in 1666. The fire broke out in the original City and quickly swept through London's wooden buildings, destroying large amounts of the city. Rebuilding took over ten years. Following London's growth in the 18th century, it became the worlds largest city from about 1831 to 1925. This growth was aided from 1836 by London's first railways, which put countryside towns within easy reach of the city. Rising traffic problems on roads led to the

Free Jazz

Tallinna Pääsküla Gümnaasium Tarvo Maasik Free jazz Referaat 9b Klass Õpetaja: õp. Kadi Härma 2 Free jazzi alguseks peetakse 60-ndate algust. Kuulajaid ja muusikuid hakkas tüütama traditsiooniliseks kujunenud palade ülesehitus. Nii otsustasidki mõned nooremad muusikud lahti öelda pea kõigist senistest jazzi põhitõdedest. Loobuti taktimõõtudest ja piiritletud vormidest. Hakati Proovima juhuslikke kooskõlasid, mida võis võrrelda eredate värvilaikudega abstraktsel maalil. Kuigi selline mängimisviis ärritas harjumuspärase jazzi pooldajaid. Kujunes 1960. aastate keskpaigaks kindel grupp selle suuna esindajaid. Üheks tuntuimaks free jazzi esindajaks peetakse saksofonisti Archie Shepp kellest räägin ka lähemalt. Archie Shepp sündis Fort Lauderdaleis Floridas 24 mail 1937. Aga ta kasvas üles Philadelphias ja Pennsylvanias kus ta õppis mängim...

Johnny Cash

Marshall Grant. His first recordings at Sun,in 1955 "Hey Porter" and "Cry! Cry! Cry!" His first prison concert was held on January 1, 1958 at San Quentin State Prison In the early 1960s, Cash toured with the Carter Family. Cash started drinking heavily and became addicted to amphetamines and barbiturates. For a brief time, he shared an apartment in Nashville with Waylon Jennings. In June 1965, his truck caught fire due to an overheated wheel bearing, triggering a forest fire that burned 508 acres (2.06 km2), in Los Padres National Forest in California. The federal government sued him and was awarded $125,172 ($871,303 today). Cash eventually settled the case and paid $82,001. Despite landing in jail seven times for misdemeanors, each stay lasted only a single night. In 1967, Cash's duet with June Carter, "Jackson", won a Grammy Award.

Environment

ENVIRONMENT Peole say that it is better to read newspapers online, because to not use paper so much. Paper are made of woods. Trees are very important to environment, because trees are oxygene producers. People pollute the air by driving the car, using scentes and burning rubbish in the fire. Thats why is very important that the air all the time to be produced. Therefore, people says that it would be better to read newspapers online. People would really think about it more on how to keep their land. We could sort our rubbish more carefully, and certainly to not drop it down. I think all people can do something to save ours Earth. I thint that ours Earth is sick and we killing it. We are recklessly wasting groundwater and wasting it, as a result, the groundwater quality will fall. We not care ours nature and violeted it to make ours life more easyer. We all must to think about it and think how to live more economically.

Bastille kontserdi retsensioon

Bastille liikmed on laulja Dan Smith, klahvpillimängija Kyle Simmons, trummar Chris Wood, kitarrist Will Farquarson ja Charlie Barnes. Grupp sai alguse Dan Smithi sooloprojektist, millele hiljem lisandusid Kyle, Chris ja Will. Kõik bändi liikmed on pärit Inglismaalt. Nad esitasid oma kuulsaimaid laule „Pompeii“ ja „Things we lost in the fire“ kui ka teoseid viimaselt albumilt Wild World nagu näiteks „Send them off“, „Glory“, „Snakes“ jne. Laulja kui ka pillimängijate tase oli väga hea, mingeid vigu ei oska välja tuua. Mulle nende muusika väga meeldi...

Railgun

Because long rails pose design challenges, most rail guns use strong currents -- on the order of a million amps -- to generate tremendous force. The projectile, under the influence of the Lorentz force, accelerates to the end of the rails opposite the power supply and exits through an aperture. The circuit is broken, which ends the flow of current. 1.4 How a railgun would work on a military ship in the future Rail guns require tremendous currents to fire projectiles at speeds of Mach 5 or higher. This presents problems for a traditional battleship because power cannot be diverted from the ship's propulsion system. In the Navy's next-generation battleship, the all-electric DD(X), producing this kind of current will be possible. To launch a rail gun projectile, power would be diverted from the ship's engine to the gun turret. The gun would be fired, up to six rounds per minute, for as long as required
