Minu plaanid tulevikuks Nüüdseks olen juba kaheksa aastat käinud Maidla põhikoolis, üheksas aasta on hetkel käsil. Nende kaheksa aastaga on palju juhtunud, palju asju on selgemaks saanud. Viieteistkümne aastapärast on mul kolm imearmsat last. Põhitööna kirjutan ma "USA Today"-le, "The Wall Street Journal" ja "The New York Times"-ile.

Name Jack Brown Adress Manhattan 3-90 New York The United States 21.09.2008 Dear Sir Brown I'm writing for you because I'm dissatisfied about the success rate in this year's examinations. I read your report and it leaves me an explicit and clear message the standards are falling and noone tries itselfs best anymore. Years ago it was very difficult to pass an exam, it was hard for us and only few of us could do it so I have to agree with your sayings. None of them worked hard I guess, they just walk in school from door to door and they...

Memoirs of a Geisha While reading the book I was quite impressed about the lifestyle and the hard work, which comes along with becoming a geisha. It was not only a good book to read, it was also like a schoolbook for history. It took place in Japan in the beginning of 19th century and at the World War I. It explained the thought of a geisha: why have many misused the word geisha, and misunderstood the reality. The book itself is about a girl, who was sold to a family by her own father. She worked there as a maid, but as time went by she grew up and a famous and loved geisha decided to train her to become a geisha too. She worked hard, but succeeded well - she was one of the most valued geishas. The book takes us to a tour where any detail of a great and merry Japanese village cannot be left out, where every little flower or Japanese cherry tree is blossomed, where geishas are highly valued and respected, until t...
Lebel and the Jackal The Jackal was an assassin, signed to murder president of France, Charles de Gaulle. Using fake identities and killing many people, he fails his mission. Claude Lebel was a professional detective, who was hired to catch the Jackal and prevent him from killing de Gaulle, after many failed attempts, he succeeds. The Jackal was known in the book under many names, such as Alexander Duggan, Per Jensen, Marty Schulberg, Andre Martin and Charles Calthrop. That shows that he was indeed a very clever man, he saw everything coming and thought ahead. He was very assured and he knew, what he was doing, he had it all figured out on his mind. He was, as a human, actually quite nice to some people, but he could not let anyone to interrupt his task, otherwise he killed them. The Jackal had to make many difficult decisions during the hunt, what were a matter of life and death and he...

Ralph Lauren Ralph Lifshitz was born on October 14, 1939, in the Bronx, New York. Growing up in a middle-class Jewish family, Ralph and his three older brothers were raised by his mother, while his artist father painted houses. Lauren's fashion sense was apparent at an early age when he would purchase expensive suits with the money he earned working at his after-school job. Although he knew he could find his clothes at a less expensive price, he made it a point to look stylish in his expensive threads -- and he has succeeded at looking cool in his attire since the age of 12. Lauren studied business at City College in Manhattan, and dropped out short of receiving his business degree. While working at A. Rivetz & Co., Lauren began designing wide ties, which spawned his first entrepreneurial career. With his tie designs and a $50,000 loan, Lauren founded the company Polo Fashions in 1968. Along with his older brother, he chose the name Po...

Should countries encourage tourism? Tourism has become a popular global leisure activity. It is the fastest growing industry in this world. But it can be negative as well. So should countries encourage tourism? Tourism has many advantages and disadvantages. The advantages are that countries have more money so they can improve its infrastructure which is a benefit for the local people. For example, roads and communication links built. Tourism provides indirect employment in terms of workers who help to produce goods and services in the economy to meet the increasing demands of the population and the tourists. Tourists also take with them, souvenirs which can be produced by people. In spite of the advantages of tourism, there can be many disadvantages too, as there are always two sides of everything. First of all, tourists cause pollution. Increased pollution disturbs local residents and also it may discourage t...
29 September 2008 Dear Sir/Madam, I am writing to inform you that you have made many mistakes in the article 'Student Slaves at Workcamp'. I explain each of the mistakes below. Firstly, you described the camp as something extremely dreadful, although there was very fun and the atmosphere was great. Secondly, you claimed that at the camp were 30 students, but actually there were only 15 of us, maybe even less. The final point I want to make concerns accommodation. We did not spend the nights in old tents. All of us slept in modern, wooden buildings with many more showers than you claimed to be there. Could I please ask you to look into these matters. I would like to see correct information about the camp in the next issue. I look forward to hearing from you. Yours faithfully, Kaire Lusti
To Whom It May Concern, I am very pleased to write a character reference for (name) I have known (name) since (date). I clearly remember the first time I met her. She was very friendly towards everyone and that really gave me a good impression of her. And even now I think she is a very joyful and lovely person, who cares for others as much as for herself. During these two and a half months I have known (name), she has always been very hard-working and extremely passionate about everything she does. She is strong-willed and if she somehow doesn't succeed in something, she tries again and again until she does. (name) is also very committed to her education and very industrious. Her favourite subjects are math and Estonian. I would certainly recommend (name) for any position where hard-working, passionate and co- operative people are valued. Sincerely, (signature, name)

Christmas By Xxxx Xxxx Nowadays, Christmas is celebrated almost world-wide. It's a global time of peace for all who believe in the magic of it. Overworked people treasure days that bring rest and recreation and allow them to meet their families and friends. They appreciate days when they give and receive gifts - the evidence of friendship, of remembrance and love. A time when it feels good to give, when anger is forgotten, when heaven becomes a place on earth for a moment. We tend to think of Christmas as a time for children, but what if Christmas gives each of us the opportunity to be the child? To have wise men bring priceless gifts to us, to be held by an adoring mother and father, to feel that everything will be okay...forever. What if Christmas is a chance to start fresh? A clean slate. Instead of New Year resolutions, we could g...

He has always written down all his sermons and saved them in boxes. He is very keen on writing. John starts writing a letter to his six year-old son. John puts down words of advice and wisdom for his son and tells him about the life of a minister and a preacher. John starts his letter with reminding the conversation he had had with his son the night before that he might be gone someday. He talks about death and how dying pe...
7. That may be true, but _____ 7.0 COUNTERING 7.1 Countering directly (through antithesis) But fox-hunting is part of country life. It's one of our traditions. But public transport is expensive and inconvenient. But English has borrowed from the Romans, the Vikings, the Saxons and the French But freight trains can't deliver goods from door to door But who can say that we will develop into civilized beings? Surely, God has the right to cut his losses! But why play the gold medalists' national anthems and why wear stars and stripes on your swimming costumes? But if you worked on a farm and your chickens were killed by foxes, you'd think differently. But if you detect more crimes, you'll still need prisons. But if you followed that line to its logical conclusion, you'd pardon all criminals. But surely, you can see wha...
9. What do you mean exactly? _____Let me explain. 9. CLARIFICATION 9.1 Clarification through short Yes/No Questions inviting illustration or example. They (North Americans) enjoy telling us that they're the best. And are they right? Yes, if you measure success purely in dollars. ... but the (health) service is under too much pressure to give adequate support. Can you be a bit more specific? Certainly. There're thousands of people who are in great pain. Some are waiting for minor surgery while others are waiting for treatment at pain control clinics. ... but it's possible to give the job to a man with fewer qualifications. Does that happen? Perhaps not as much as it used to, but if a woman leaves a job to start a family, it may be very difficult for her to return to full-time work. 9.2 Clarification through "What" o...
5. That's just what I think. 5.0 AGREEING 5.1 Expressing complete agreement We say one thing and mean another? Exactly. You mean, you can't fool all the people all of the time? Exactly. You mean it's possible to ignore the Green Party, but you can't ignore their policies when a general consensus of people come to support them? Exactly. Once the level of benefit is higher than their take-home pay, why should they do a job? Precisely, but the answer isn't to remove benefits from those who really need them. 5.2 Expressing conditional agreement I'd agree with you if the purpose of hell was to rehabilitate people back into heaven, but hell is usually associated with torture and damnation. I'd certainly agree if you're thinking of the World Cup. 6. I'm afraid I don't agree. 6. DISAGREEING 6.1 ...
3. There are three points I'd like to make... 3. PRESENTING A NUMBER OF ARGUMENTS First of all, Britain is unique in its transport history. Firstly, what do you do about miscarriages of justice? Well, firstly I'm an agnostic - I don't know whether or not God exists.... Well, firstly we need to take an interest in developing countries instead of just competing with rich countries. To begin with, most women and men want the right to work. I'd start by rationing petrol to cut out unnecessary car journeys. For a start, it would have to be a mixed school and not a boarding establishment. There're two points here. Firstly, the cost to the environment. Think of all the rain forests. Secondly, the advertiser may pay, but the costs are passed on to the consumer. There are two problems here. Some of these homes are a long way from bus routes. Moreover, bus services ...
1. ASKING SOMEONE FOR THEIR OPINION ABOUT A TOPIC 1.1 Yes/No Questions Do you believe in horoscopes? Do you believe in a God who rewards good and punishes wrong-doing? Do you think we should be tougher on crime? Do you think we should maintain our traditions or make way for change? Do you think the Government should act to curb the power of media barons....? Do you think everybody should be trained to use computers? Do you think that public sector workers such as teachers, doctors, nurses and fire fighters should be allowed to strike? Do you think that the young have anything to learn from the elderly and vice versa? Would you consider sending your child to a grammar school? Would you ever consider taking out private health insurance? 1.2 OR Questions Are you for or against self-sufficiency? Would you prefer your child to be edu...
10. The best way is _____ Alternatively, _____ 10. EXPRESSING SOLUTIONS and ALTERNATIVES The solution is to compel all employers to pay a minimum wage. Then you will increase the incentive to work... The best way to prevent crime is to convince the people who commit it that they are going to be caught. To remove crime from society, you really have to tackle it's causes. There are many choices. You can travel north to see the midnight sun... You can take the night train to Copenhagen... You can take the ferry east to Finland or take the seven hour train journey across the country to Gothenburg. As for the young woman, she may have a lot in common with the old man; Alternatively, she may be interested in his money. Well, when they reach the age of fifteen, they reject the songs of their childhood. Instead, they are into pop or rock songs which wil...

Why was life better /worse in Estonia 50 years ago? If we go back in time 50 years, then we will find ourselves in the year 1958. Certainly it was not one the brightest periods in our lives, because all the Estonians were occupied by Russians and the governing power was also held by them. It was a time where we never even dreamed about life we are having nowadays. The way of life was very complicated, people had limited rights and all the things we nowadays have done by machines were all handmade. These are the major reasons, which made me think that life was worse 50 years ago than now. Why was it so? Firstly, nowadays we can speak about many comforts, which 50 years ago was not so. In 1950s' there were any conveniences at all everything had to be made by yourself and people were living a poor life. People did not have the chance to own expensive technics(as a matter of fact some of them were not invented yet or it jus...
Cigarettes Enemies Or Friends? A cigarette is distinguished from a cigar by its smaller size, use of processed leaf, and white paper wrapping. There are about 1.2 billion smokers in the world who are absolutely attracted to the cigarettes. As the new generation is growing up, the so-called "smoking-cult" is a normal matter and that enormous number of smokers is only increasing. But as a matter of fact smoking is just a bad habit and very dangerous for your health. So can we call cigarettes our friends? Most countries in the world have a legal smoking age of 18. That means that when you are not and adult you should not smoke or consume any products related to tobacco and cigarettes. But if to look into our street picture, there are seen so many under age smokers that it is really threatening. It all starts from the home how you have been raised, how strict were the rules a child had to follow and how much did your parents ...
Story about English humor At first, I have to say that English humor is very frightening and quite shocking for us, Estonians. But if to talk about British people and their humor then for them, it's more than everyday life. It is something they are use to see and hear every day, day after another. They do not take it that serious as the other nationalities would and they are definitely the best laughers at themselves. The brightest memory I have from those two videos is that guy in the wheelchair. Unbelievable how selfish and rude they are! And no-one can do anything about that. If they say so then all the people around them have to act like they wish. They are absolutely innocently taking the advantage of other innocent people. Certainly we cannot talk about all disabled people from that point of view, but the exception affirms the rule. And in Britain, you can find a lot of exceptions. The second thing whi...
Dear Madam or Sir I am writing to express my strong dissatisfaction with the service of your company. My complaints concern holidays on Tenerife. To start with, your travel agent assured me that I would stay in a luxurious hotel situated not far from the Golden Beach. I was also promised a spacious room with a terrace and windows overlooking the ocean. However, the hotel turned out to be small and old and it was situated close to a very busy street, furthermore, very far from the ocean. It took 40 minutes to walk to the beach. Moreover, there was a balcony instead of a terrace in my room. In addition, the staff of the hotel neglected their duties. I had to ask three times for new bed linen and when I asked for a wake-up call at 6 o'clock, I was woken up at 9 o'clock. When I complained about it, a receptionist treated me very rudely. Secondly, the choice of food served at the hotel restaurant was very limited. There were hardly any ...
"Babel" I have got a number of favorite films, but the last one that I have recently seen and really enjoyed is called the "Babel". In the scenes are playing Brad Pitt, Cate Blanchett and others. "Babel" is a Golden Globe-winning and Academy Award-winning 2006 film, directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu and written by Guillermo Arriaga. The action of the film takes place in 3 different countries and all the events that happen during the film are interrelated. At the beginning of the film two Moroccan boys shot from rifle and this influenced a chain of events that link on American tourist couple struggle to survive, two Moroccan boys involved in an accidental crime, nanny illegally crossing into Mexico with two American children and a Japanese teen girl rebel, whose father is caught by the police in Tokyo. Every branch of the story has it s very own distinct style that complements the plot of ea...
Dear Sir, The report describes the problem of student transport. In order to prepare this report we interviewed students from all parts of college. According to students we spoke to, the car park is used by a lot of visitors and year by year more students have more cars. Not surprisingly, the car park becomes full and there are not enough possibilities to leave car. The second problem is that the buses often run late and are always full. The majority of students cannot afford the taxi fare from home to college. Some of them are unwilling to go on foot, because they are living far from college. The most realistic solution is to improve the bus service, writing to bus company. As a result good public transport will reduce the number of private cars. The second decision is to raise the price of car parking and extend it into the sports field. Perhaps it will take some time and extra money, but it will solve the majority of our transpor...

Art Museum of Estonia Art Museum of Estonia was founded on November 17th, 1919, but it was not until 1921 that it got its first permanent building the Kadriorg Palace, built in the 18th century. In 1929 the palace was expropriated from the Art Museum in order to rebuild it as the residence of the President of Estonia. The Art Museum of Estonia was housed in several different temporary spaces, until it moved back to the palace in 1946. In September, 1991 the Kadriorg Palace was closed, because it had totally deteriorated by then. At the end of the year the Supreme Council of the Republic of Estonia decided to guarantee the construction of a new building for the Art Museum of Estonia in Kadriorg. Untill then the Knighthood House at Toompea Hill served as the temporary main building of the Art Museum of Estonia. The exhibition there was opened on April 1, 1993. Art Museum of Estonia premanently closed down the exhibitions in that buildi...

If I Were A Millionaire... Everyone of us has their own dreams and it is hard to believe that out there is someone who has not dreamed about money. I am talking about a huge amount of money. If I were a millionaire, I could own all those things I have not had in my life before. First, if I were the lucky one, who would have a chance to be a millionaire, there would be millions of ways how to spend it. As to the point that my family has been the most precious fortune for me, I would give at least one third of that to my loved ones. I think that this would be a clever action. Second, if I would have the chance then I would purchase all these things I have wanted in my entire life. I would definitely buy an enormous but cozy house where I could finally make my dream come true - have as many pets as I want! I have wanted to own as many pets as possible since I was a little girl, so it would be my...
Describing People Yesterday, as I was walking in the street I met an old friend of mine. This was Marin, who was doing her shopping tour just like me. She looked amazing! Marin is a tall, well-built woman. She has got a long face, green eyes and a long thin nose. She usually wears her gorgeous long dark hair loose. She is dressed casually almost all the time, but still with elegant. Yesterday she was wearing blue jeans and golden belt on her hips. She had knee- high boots and white short coat. She wore her hair loose and had a fabulous white scarf around her neck. Marin is cheerful and smiling almost all the year around. At least it seems like this to others, because she laughs a lot and is a very positive person. Marin likes to socialise and help others in every way that she can. She is very nice and neat and the most helpful person I know. But all the bright sides have always something negative. So do ...

Markko Märtin Markko Märtin (born November 10, 1975 in Tartu) is a rally car driver from Estonia, who competed in the World Rally Championship from 2000 until 2005. Märtin, as understudy to then-team mates Colin McRae and Carlos Sainz, shot to prominence with Ford in 2002. He was on target to notch up victory on that year's Acropolis Rally Greece, his career first, until suffering two punctures and instead being forced to concede to the more experienced McRae. But Märtin still impressed during his time as pilot of the Ford Focus WRC. He won the equivalent event in Greece the following year as well as being only the third driver in the history of the WRC to break the Scandinavian stranglehold on the Neste Rally Finland. In addition to this, Märtin was a winner, again with Ford, of the Corona Rally Mexico in 2004. He also won the Tarmac rallies of Corsica and Catalunya in the same year. These victories happened to be the last for the Mär...
Your Name Dear Diary, The most amazing thing just happened to me. The Time Machine which I never thought will work, just brought me back from my travel to 1975. I've always imagined what the 70's would have looked like and I've even dreamed of living in that time. And now I finally got to see and feel it. I wasn't quite sure where would The Machine bring me, but luckily it worked perfectly and brought me into the New York City. I think that it somehow works on the power of mind and it gets you exactly where and when you want to be. On the first sight it all looked wonderful, the grass was greener and the air was more easier to breathe of course I was evolved into the famous Central Park. I didn't know where to go or what to do, so I whistled, like they do in the movies, and took a cab. I asked the driver just to drive me around the city and show m...

William Shakespeare, sonett 130 Kristiina Stõkova My mistress' eyes are nothing like the sun, 10R Coral is far more red, than her lips red, If snow be white, why then her breasts are dun: If hairs be wires, black wires grow on her head: I have seen roses damasked, red and white, But no such roses see I in her cheeks, And in some perfumes is there more delight, Than in the breath that from my mistress reeks. I love to hear her speak, yet well I know, That music hath a far more pleasing sound: I grant I never saw a goddes go, My mistress when she walks treads on the ground. And yet by heaven I think my love as rare, As any she belid with false compare. ***** Mu armsa silmad pole päiksest loodud, (11) korallgi punasem, kui värv huultes. Social Problems Crime In the sociological field, crime is the breach of a rule or law for which some governing authority or force may ultimately prescribe a punishment. The word crime originates from the Latin crimen. When society deems informal relationships and sanctions insufficient to create and maintain a desired social order, there may result more formalized systems of social control imposed by a government, or more broadly, by a State. With the institutional and legal machinery at their disposal, agents of the State can compel individuals to conform to behavioural codes and punish those that do not. Various mechanisms are employed to regulate behaviour, including rules codified into laws, policing people to ensure they comply with those laws, and other policies and practices designed to prevent crime. In addition are remedies and sanctions, and collectively these constitute a crimi...

The Essay Writing Manual Brain Storming The process of writing the application essay can be broken into five very basic parts: Brainstorming Selecting the essay topic Writing the essay Revising the essay Coming up with the final draft 1. BRAINSTORMING: Brainstorming is the process of coming up with ideas spontaneously from free flowing writing or talking. To brainstorm, you can simply sit down with a pen and jot down every idea that comes into your head. Another approach is to simply start writing and see where you end up. Record as much information as you can recall, such as schools attended, courses taken, jobs held, research projects undertaken. 4. If you ask me, _______ 4.0 GIVING YOUR OPINION ABOUT A TOPIC 4.1 Expressing a strong opinion In my opinion, fashion is a complete waste of time, money and resources. In my opinion, there's only one choice - English! In my view, government money shouldn't be used to support the Arts. In my reckoning, if we could lock up juvenile criminals, they'd learn that they couldn't get away with it. I strongly believe in preventing problems before they happen. In much the same way as the Japanese prepare for earthquakes, countries with dry climates could have water catchment systems and reservoirs to defend against water shortage. I definitely think that countries should be self-sufficient in food and basic necessities. Don't you think it's better to stay single? Well, if you ask me, it all depends on your circumstances. Well, I th...

What if there isn't enough work to go round? What if the employers decide to introduce new working practices? And what happens if the two sides can't agree? What would happen then if state benefits were cut completely? If this also makes Britain more attractive for overseas visitors, so well and good. You'd only use capital punishment if you were absolutely sure that you'd convicted the right person. It'd be O.K. if they recognised the quality of the songs their grandmother had taught them and went on to sing them to their own grandchildren. 8.2 Questions based on conditions with sentence adverbials " then" and "so" We punish murderers and rapists on Ea...
