He thinks that since Basil painted the portrait, that ruined Dorian's life, the painter should be punished for this. Evaluation I think that the writing was effective and definately the author achieved his purpose. Many people told me before reading this book, that they have never read a better book in their life. After first couple of chapters I thought we just have different tastes in books, as I usually do have, but the book was quite interesting in the end.
