Ø Urban forests plays an important role in ecology of human habitats in many ways: they filter air, water, sunlight, provide shelter to animals and recreational area for people. They moderate local climate and slowing wind. History of Urban Forestry Early History Ø
Good morning! My name is Marianne Kümnik. I will be speaking today about strawberries. My presentation will last for about 10 minutes. Please can you save your questions till the end. Choosing Cultivars Some cultivars perform better than others, but it is difficult to predict which will grow best in a particular garden. Perhaps the best way to decide which cultivars to grow is to find out what works well for neighbours or local commercial growers. Before planting strawberries in a large area it’s good to try several promising cultivars Some cultivars that perform well: • Earliglow—perhaps the best-flavored cultivar, it is among the earliest to ripen. • Northeaster—ripens about the same time as Earliglow. It is resistant to red stele and does well on heavier clay soils. The berries are large and have a hint of grape flavor, which some people love and others dislike. • Sable—has excellent flavor and also ripens early.

classification by ownership, began only in the 1960s. In Japan, artificial forests are defined as planted forests where the planted trees survive at a ratio of 50% or higher. On the other hand, natural forest is defined as forest other than artificial forest, including virgin forest and secondary forest. Table 3.2 shows that the share of artificial forest in private forests has been higher than in the total forest area since 1946. This suggests that private sector planting has been more active than public sector planting in the prewar and postwar periods. In summary, forest managers in Japan aggressively converted natural forest to artificial forest during the first two decades of the postwar period, and thereafter have maintained forest resources so that growing stock has increased rapidly over the last three decades. ---------------------- According to annual data published by the Forestry Agency, the area reforested from natural
work for environment Nowadays when most of the people live in city environment don't see what that makes to the nature. Big city's wastes lot of water and product a lot garbage all so waste air with fumes. It would be great when people who take something from the environment give something back to it. This is easy when just start doing something. If nobody doesn't drop junk on the ground then that's a good thing to. Also should take part on different trees planting and junk cleaning events. I guess that government and local authorities should make more and more with that kind of purpose events. At this evolution period can people buy also cars witch waist less environment. When going to tank a car then should take with less toxic fuel. What less we use electricity helps on saving environment. But when we don't do these simple things then eventually our children don't have a place to born.

century. The Giant sunflower (Hlianthus giganteus) is native to Connecticut. They can grow to be between 3 and 12 feet tall. Their flower heads can be between 2 to 3 inches wide. They are most commonly found in valleys with wet meadows or swamps. The Giant sunflower grows between July and October. To grow well, sunflowers need full sun. They grow best in fertile, moist, well-drained soil with a lot of mulch. In commercial planting, seeds are planted 45 cm (1.5') apart and 2.5 cm (1") deep. Sunflower "whole seed" (fruit) is sold as snacks and can be processed into a peanut butter alternative, Sunbutter, especially in China, the United States, the Middle East and Europe. In Russia it is probably the most wide spread snack.[citation needed] It is also sold as food for birds and can be used directly in cooking and salads. Sunflower oil, extracted from the seeds, is used for cooking (but is less cardiohealthy
They also designed Brooklyn's Prospect Park. The park, which receives approximately thirty-five million visitors annually, is the most visited urban park in the United States. It was opened on 770 acres (3.1 km2) of city-owned land and was expanded to 843 acres. The park is maintained by the Central Park Conservancy, a private, not-for-profit organization that manages the park under a contract with the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation. While planting and land form in much of the park appear natural, it is in fact almost entirely landscaped. The park contains several natural-looking lakes and ponds that have been created artificially, extensive walking tracks, bridle paths, two ice-skating rinks (one of which is a swimming pool in July and August), the Central Park Zoo, the Central Park Conservatory Garden, a wildlife sanctuary, a large area of natural woods.
which exhaust fumes that pollute air what we breathe. Although, there are some newer vehicles like busses and cars that contaminate less and even few electric cars, people do not pay enough attention to it. When the levels of pollution are too high, it may cause some serious diseases. The second aspect is that people fell quite a lot of trees, but that is not so big problem. In Estonia there are a lot of forests and groves. Also, people are planting new trees all the time and know abot the importance of green. Lastly, one of the issues is that people consume too much and therefore produce a lot of garbage. Most of the people recycle things like plastic, bottles and paper, but some do not know or care what kind of damage growing landfills can make. In conclusion it can be said, that in Estonia there are some environmental problems, but the things are not very bad and fortunately people are thinking about these more every day.
countryside, and power itself with renewable sources of energy. • create the smallest possible ecological footprint • produce the lowest quantity of pollution possible • efficiently use land • compost used materials - Practical Achievement • Different agricultural systems - agricultural plots within the city – reduces distance. • Renewable energy sources - wind turbines, solar panels, or bio-gas created from sewage. • Methods to reduce air conditioning - planting trees and lightening surface colors, etc Practical Achievement • Transportation planning- Improved public transport and an increase in pedestrianization to reduce car emissions • Green roofs Conclusion Sustainable cities are the way of the future, perhaps the distant future, but it is clear there are aspects of sustainability that many developed countries are exploring and incorporating. Our focus instead was on the highlighting some positives. The purpose of
And all living beings belong to the circle of life. And when one link is missing, the circle of life can´t function normally. A further problem is hunting. Man has always been a hunter. He still is. But many modern hunters don't just kill for food - they kill for profit. And that´s wrong ! There are, however some solutions. We should make more laws, that protect the animals in danger. Open more national parks, building fewer new roads, planting more new forests and cutting pollution. These are things, that everyone can help with, if they wanted to. In conclusion, it can be said that although human activities damage and pollute the environment of wild animals, their life in Estonia is not necessarily inevitable. In fact, there are several places in Estonia which have been turned into wild life reserves and where wild animals, especially birds, have everything they need for habitation.
m3/ha/year Main principle of the economy of forests: Annual cutting should be equal to annual increase. Trees are divided into: · Precious trees (ebony, mahagony, sandalwood) · Hard-broadleaf (decidious) trees (oak, beech pöök) · Coniferous trees -> consumption timber -> soft timber (spruce, pine, juniper) · Trees of little value (willow, bird-cherry toomingas) · Trees of special usage (fruits, cork) Forestry: · Planting, taking care of the trees · Protection of forests againts fire and pests · Soil improvement · Special forest plantations · Fertilisation · Plant breeding Forest Industry: · Felling of the trees · Processing of timber · Trees grow: 80-100 years in the wild, 60-70 years with the help of people The usage of forests: 1. Gathering · To live, get food and shelter from the woods · Don't change or harm the forests 2. EarlyAgrarian m.m.
Don’t use plastic bags, use reusable fabric bags instead. Don’t waste food, use up your leftovers. Also if you have usable clothes or household items that you don’t need anymore, donate them to charity or sell them, instead of sending them to the landfill. You can protect the enviroment by reducing, reusing and recycling. All these little things like using rechargable batteries, turning off your computers at night, paying bills online, using both sides of paper or planting a tree and so on, all these things matter. It’s not much asked to do these simple and small things for the enviroment.

Cultivation outdoors • Sowing seeds “close together” • Wait until the soil is warm enough • pH should be about 6.4 • Adding compost to your soil at the beginning of the season is a great way to enrich the soil organically Companion planting • Often used as a companion plant for tomatoes • Some gardeners claim that basil can improve the growth and flavour of tomatoes and repel insects Pests and diseases • Basil has a reputation as an insect repellent, particularly for mosquitoes • Despite its insect repellent properties, basil is subject to a variety of pests • Whiteflies are primarily a problem for young plants in the greenhouse • Pests may vary depending on your region
comfortable doing more. Jasper takes center stage to begin the instruction. Jasper calls Emmett forward first, noting that his reliance on brutal strength is what makes Emmett the closest example of a newborn attack. Jasper easily catches Emmett from behind and ends the mock skirmish. He engages Alice next, wishing specifically for Bella to see why Alice can take care of herself. Sure enough, Alice effortlessly outmatches Jasper, finally swooping up from behind and planting a quick kiss on his neck. Edward claims the next turn, and Alice takes his spot next to Bella. Alice surprises Bella, stating she knows of Bella's semi-formed plans to spare her loved ones from danger. Alice declares she will warn Edward if Bella continues to scheme. Bella ignores her and tries to focus on Jasper and Edward. Jasper's expertise is equally matched by Edward's agility and mind-reading, and they finally agree to call it a draw
Deforestation Also, deforestation is dangerous to animals. Deforestation means, when trees are often cut down, to produce furniture or something else. When the trees are cut down, animals have no place to live or hide themselves from the hunters, so many of them become extinct. Trees, including forests play an important part of the air, that we breathe, cause they produce oxygen, so the less trees and plants, the less oxygen. But there are often held planting campaigns, where people plant their own tree and during a few years, the trees are high enough, to form a new part of the forest. But still new trees will be cut down again, thankfully governments make sometimes laws to control deforestation. Some forests are changed into nationality areas, so in order to cut trees down or hunt animals, people must ask permission from the governments. Rubbish
in available space estimates. Although the constraints on above grade construction do not directly translate into clear limitations of available space, examination of a range of options has led to a recommendation to accommodate 32,000 square feet of space in two buildings above grade. In the time frame of Northern Pointe development it is felt that the Douglas Fir trees alone would merit preservation during construction, although replacement planting of a number of major trees is envisioned to follow construction. The space planning figures reflect these assumptions. The resulting total 253,850 gross square feet of space estimated to be available for devel opment exceeds the current requirements of 250,000 square feet by a moderate amount. We would not necessarily suggest any further increase in the program size to more closely match the space available for development.

testifies that she fell honestly in love with the Moor and freely married him. Following their clearance of wrongdoing, Othello is immediately sent to defend against the Turks in Cyrpus. Taking Desdemona with him, Othello sets out for the island with Iago and his wife Emilia in tow. Again displaying his deceitful nature, Iago manages to convince Roderigo to follow along for when Desdemona tires of her new husband. When the Venetians arrive in Cyprus, Iago immediately goes about planting doubt in Othello’s mind as to how loyal his wife is. A carefully planned fight between Roderigo and Cassio, the man who was promoted above Iago, results in Cassio’s demotion. Taking advantage of his saddened state, Iago advises Cassio to seek out Desdemona’s favor to speak on his behalf. Iago carefully maneuvers Othello and himself to arrive as Cassio is leaving Desdemona’s audience. Iago points out how Cassio seems to be avoiding Othello. Desdemona for her part immediately begs

than ever. As the experimental five-day opening in 1925 had proved unpopular with exhibitors, the Show became a four-day event in 1927, when an extra day, especially for RHS Members, was instituted. This was to be on a Thursday, and public were allowed in only from Wednesday to Friday. In 1929 Chelsea reflected garden styles that would be seen more than 50 years later: great set pieces in which hardware and design were as important as the planting itself. Although there were two more Shows before war was declared in September 1939, the 1937 one was the last great Show before the Chelsea Flower Show closed from 1940 to 1946. 10 After the Second World War, the RHS President Lord Aberconway told a gathering of former exhibitors in October 1946, "Whatever else we go without, we should not go without Chelsea Flower Show next year".

If there is in this world a well-attested account, it is that of the vampires. Nothing is lacking: official reports, affidavits of well-known people, of surgeons, of priests, of magistrates; the judicial proof is most complete. And with all that, who is there who believes in vampires? -- Rousseau The rest of the site was an alphabetized listing of all the different myths of vampires held throughout the world. The first I clicked on, the Danag, was a Filipino vampire supposedly responsible for planting taro on the islands long ago. The myth continued that the Danag worked with humans for many years, but the partnership ended one day when a woman cut her finger and a Danag sucked her wound, enjoying the taste so much that it drained her body completely of blood. I read carefully through the descriptions, looking for anything that sounded familiar, let alone plausible. It seemed that most vampire myths centered around beautiful women as demons and children as victims;

I OM Chapter 4 SOCIAL PROOF Obviously it was something about the presence of other bystanders that reduced helping to shameful levels. Other studies have examined the importance of social proof in causing wide- spread witness "apathy." They have done so by planting within a group of witnesses to a possible emergency people who are rehearsed to act as if no emergency were occurring. For instance, in another New York-based experiment (Latane 8{ Darley, 1968a), 75 percent of lone individuals who observed smoke seeping from under a door reported the leak; however, when similar leaks were observed by three-person groups, the smoke was reported only 38 percent of the time.
