D-needs and B-needs Basic needs (D = deficit) physiological safety beloning esteem Higher need (B = being) self actualization What a man can be, he must be! Physiological needs Homeostasis oxygen water protein salt, sugar, calcium ... In Maoist China the most basic need was belonging Safety, love and esteem Stability, structure, order Community, affection Status, dignity, reputation Once the D-needs are satisfied they are no longer motivating. Beyond basic needs What a man can be, he must be! Self-actualization, being need Depends on the satisfication of D-needs Never fully satisfied Thank you! Questions?
need these domestic jobs done as much as everybody else in my family. My mother doesn't get paid for feeding me, so why should I be better than her. I know a family where one of the children gets paid for simple domestic jobs and the other does not. It seems unfair to me. On the other hand, I find that getting paid for chores could be rather good motivator for younger kids. In the world full of computers and TVs we are getting lazier day by day. Children nowadays may need this motivating. If there were more difficult jobs, they would understand how hard it is to earn money and how precious it is when you have earned it. In conclusion, my opinion is that it is very individual, whether a person should earn his/her pocket money or not. Obviously, it can be very instructive. Children's parents should decide whether he/she should get paid. I think that if a person is old enough to understand he does all those domestic jobs for himself he should not be paid.
Põlva ÜG 12.B class Studying abroad These days studying abroad become more and more popular. In my opinion, people who are going study abroad have many advantages. However, it definitely has a negative sides. On the one hand, studying abroad is new experience and motivating, but on the other hand it can be distracting. Firstly, studying abroad give to people more experience and philosophy of life. Compared to the situation one hundred years ago, studying abroad is broadly spread all over the world. Moreover, travel is easier and convenient. In addition, studying abroad has become more and more popular. In my opinion it is the most useful way to learn a new language and you have advantage to be independent. In addition, you got new friends and habits
good life. Trying to find spare time to relax is very difficult. Humans are ,,programmed" to value work over studies therefore students might skip homework and get worse results in school which causes even more stress and extra work for the student. In brief words, working while having a job is not for the weak. The thought of earning money while studying might sound wonderful and motivating, but it is more difficult than it seems. The positive experiences may overweigh the negative oens, depending on your job and how much one can do. It will definitely be a good idea to try having a job while studying, considering what it can do for a person.
your reader will find frustrating. 3 Use diagrams to clarify information that would be difficult to convey accurately in words. Also use them for information that is so complex as to be confusing to the reader without a visual representation of the item, part or process to which he can refer as he carries out the manual's instructions. 4 Make the reader understand the purpose of each action and each step in the process, motivating her to complete each one by explaining the reason for it and the benefits of following the directions presented in the manual. Don't make the reader guess why an action might be necessary or wonder how it would be helpful. Doing so might cause her to skip a necessary step or avoid an entire process that could greatly simplify her life--and greatly increase her enthusiasm for your product. 5 Break the process down into small, easy-to-remember steps. Then present the steps in

usually used with car salesmen or with other sale fields. In very simplistic way pay-for performance means that one is getting paid relating how well he works. In a more complicated way it refers to instrument that encourages civil servants to rise their work quality and performance, it rewards best officials based on their contribution and effort. So it is kind of a tool to motivate officials to perform better and produce more qualitative work. (Randma-Liiv 2005) Compensating and motivating employees plays important role in governmental jobs- it helps to attract, motivate and retain qualified workers in the field. Success of pay-for performance tool has been discussed in many ways. Some researchers like Murphy and Cleveland (1995) support the success stories brining out examples why it is necessary, some like Ingraham (1993) are not that optimistic about it and draws attention on its negative effects. To tell weather pay-for performance is good or a bad

birds and patron saints. According to the questionnaire, we come to the conclusion that students of gymnasium, who study English as a foreign language are not quite aware of the facts about British national symbols. It seems they know some facts, but not much. What is more crucial and even sad, according to students' answers they are not interested in knowing British national symbols. That means there is not much interest in that kind of information. So maybe there should be another way of motivating them learn more and attract their attention. 33 CONCLUSION In conclusion, I would like to emphasize the importance of studying culture. Studying should allow learners to increase their knowledge of the target culture in terms of people’s way of life, values, attitudes, and beliefs, national symbols etc. Foreign language learning is comprised of several components, including grammatical

The research showed, that amateur equestrians are mainly people with good financial state and who practices equestrian sport beside their main work and not for the money earning reasons. The amateur equestrians are potential sponsors for the sport. Amateur athletes are willing to donate in the sport they love and are interested in the development of the sport. The Estonian Equestrian Federation 2012 calendar shows, that there are few race classes meant for the amateur athletes. It would be motivating for the amateur athletes, if there were special races for amateurs in the calendar. The amateur athlete is a wise person with the desire to learn. They spend time and money for the hobby, hoping they get to compete on their own level. Most of the amateur athletes don’t want to lose the amateur status and they don’t want to reach professional level. Beside their main job, the amateurs can’t go to the stables every day. The racing of difficult classes takes dedication, time and money
Technology thus allowed Felipe to dislocate work from place through virtual commuting. Charlotte (Canadian, 26), who funded her trips through intensive stints of bartending in Canada, exemplified how intermittent work in her own country allowed her to maintain her lifestyle: As soon as I get back I’m like, okay, got to work, and immediately have a next place in mind. Always working towards the next trip. I would say travel is the main motivating factor for me to even have a steady job. In cases where participants rotated between work in their country of origin and backpacking, these spheres of life did not reach a balance in terms of time or importance. Periods of work only lasted as long as it took to be able to ‘set off again’. Although it is likely that some individuals may strike an annual balance of ‘seasons’ in which work at home and travel take

It is to a large extent a history of madness. If the history of humanity were the clinical case history of a single human being, the diagnosis would have to be: chronic paranoid delusions, a pathological propensity to commit murder and acts of extreme violence and cruelty against his perceived “enemies” – his own unconsciousness projected outward. Criminally insane, with a few brief lucid intervals. Fear, greed, and the desire for power are the psychological motivating forces not only behind warfare and violence between nations, tribes, religions, and ideologies, but also the cause of incessant conflict in personal relationships. They bring about a distortion in your perception of other people and yourself. Through them, you misinterpret every situation, leading to misguided action designed to rid you of fear and satisfy your need for more, a bottomless hole that can never be filled.
Their problem is that toy sales then go into a terrible slump for the next couple of months. Their customers have already spent the amount in their toy budgets and are stiffly resistant to their children's pleas for more. So the toy manufacturers are faced with a dilemma: how to keep sales high dur- ing the peak season and, at the same time, retain a healthy demand for toys in the immediately following months. Their difficulty certainly doesn't lie in motivating kids to want more toys after Christmas. The problem lies in motivating postholiday spent-out parents to buy another plaything for their already toy-glutted children. What could the toy companies possibly do to produce that unlikely behavior? Some have tried greatly increased advertising campaigns, others have reduced prices dur- ing the slack period, but neither of those standard sales devices has proved success- ful
to acknowledge that he could have used part of that money he invested in meaningless luxury in improving his neighbourhood or buying a home for himself and his family, thereby taking some of the eyesores off the neighbourhood. There are so many traits of the Black race that are mind boggling and can never be explained by a rational mind. We should apply the same policy in searching for the area we move into. If you are still living in an apartment and want to buy a home, what is your motivating factor when looking for a place? Is the consideration based on the fact that you want to live in a Caucasian community, rather than moving into an African community? The flight of the so-called Black middle class to Caucasian neighbourhoods has been critically and amply documented. It doesn’t require any further analysis here. The purchase of a home should require the same form of consideration and guide that we enunciated in buying a luxury automobile
Another inversion of this archetype's energy is a special k i n d of T h r e s h o l d Guardian (an archetype discussed in the next chapter). An example is found in Romancing the Stone, where Joan Wilder's witchy, sharp-tongued agent is to all appear ances a Mentor, guiding her career and giving her advice about men. But when Joan is about to cross the threshold to adventure, the agent tries to stop her, warning her of the dangers and casting doubt in her mind. Rather than motivating her like a true Mentor, the agent becomes an obstacle in the hero's path. T h i s is psychologically true to life, for often we must overcome or outgrow the energy of our best teachers in order to move to the next stage of development. FALLEN MENTORS Some Mentors are still on a Hero's Journey of their own. T h e y may be experiencing a crisis of faith in their calling. Perhaps they are dealing with the problems of aging
"I got a heart rate monitor (HRM) and started using it for EVERYTHING. I used it while pedaling to make sure that even when I was having fun playing a game I was doing myself some good. If you know your heart rate zones (easy to nd on the Internet), the ambiguity non- tness-experts feel with respect to exercise is removed. Thirty minutes in your aerobic zone is good exercise and burns fat. Calculate how many calories you burn (a good HRM will do it for you), and the experience is fun and motivating. I started wearing my HRM when I was doing things like annoying chores around the house. You can clean house fast and burn serious fat. That's not some Montel Williams BS. It's real. Because of the constant use of an HRM I was able That's not some Montel Williams BS. It's real. Because of the constant use of an HRM I was able to combine fun and exercise or annoying chores and exercise, making all of it more rewarding and way less likely I'd get lazy and decide not to do it.
literal meanings. Even neglecting sarcasm and other forms of indirect speech acts (we shall talk more about such things in chapter 13), figurative usage is very prevalent (we shall talk more about that in chapter 14). If Grice should want to say that a sentence's own meaning is what speakers "normally" mean in uttering the sentence, he would have to say what "normally" means independently of the sentence's standard meaning, as well as motivating the claim. And things get even worse. There are private codes in which a given sen- tence is never used with its literal meaning. The Japanese signal for the 1941 air attack on Pearl Harbor was (the Japanese expression translated as) "East wind, rain," which so far as I know has never been used to mean anything but "It's time to go bomb Pearl Harbor." And even apart from private codes, in everyday life there are many sentences that normally are uttered with other
