For example there was this awfully embarrassing situation that happened to me when I thought that General Tilney killed his wife. I was very ashamed of myself. Ender is a Third, but permitted by the government to be born because he has the superior intelligence of the Wiggin children and a disposition that is kinder than Peter's, but not as sensitive as Valentine. As such, Ender is able to do well in Battle School and go on to successfully command the human mission to the bugger home world in Command School, but he regrets the deaths he has caused, and is glad for the redemption the hive-queen gave him. I tried to teach him Estonian and learned some Russian instead. My Russian studies in school have always been very hectic and making very little sense. Teachers kept changing all the time, teaching methods kept changing as well and learning Pushkin by heart does not work wonders with one's speaking skills, really. (Although I still can recite one of his poems...) The point is, I actually really like Russian. I've never been good at it, but I like the language and I really wish I knew it better. I can speak some, but not read much. As soon as the characters stop talking to each other, I'm stuck and can barely understand anything. Phillip Larkin was a poet who became disillusioned with many things in life. He was afraid of commitment and growing old. He thought that rest of the world is a threat to England by causing England to become more isolated. But actually he himself was creating a self- induced isolation from others. BOOK REPORT Title of the book: Fight Club Author (name and some general information): Chuck Palahniuk is an American novelist born February 21, 1962 in Washington, USA. He is best known as the author for the novel Fight Club (1996), which was made into a movie in 1999. Palahniuk began writing fiction in his mid-thirties. When he attempted to publish his novel, Invisible Monsters, publishers rejected it for its disturbing content. This led him to work on Fight Club which he wrote as an attempt to disturb the publisher even more for rejecting him. After initially publishing it as a short story in the 1995 compilation, Pursuit of Happiness, Palahniuk expanded it into a full novel, which --contrary to his expectations--the publisher was willing to publish. In my opinion he is making fun of him because he exaggerates describing his very polite manners and love for chivalry. He says that the knight had fought bravely for their country, was honest, polite and wise and had never in his life lost a battle. Chaucer also writes that the hero was a perfect gentleman and everyone thought only good things about him. But then he says that the clothes the knight wore were dull and beneath the shiny armour he was a simple man like everyone else. I think because at the time of writing chivalry was becoming less and less popular, Chaucer made fun of the knights and how they were honoured and he thought that it was a bit oldfashioned.
