on my sister and me. We had to move to another school. Later, thank goodness, I met somebody who behaved differently towards me. I was studying drama with Oleg Efremov but I wanted to be a director. Oleg Efremov recommended me to a wonderful teacher, Maria Osipovna Knebel'. She became my mentor, my friend, a second mother. Maria Osipovna later told me what she had thought at our first meeting. She said: "I saw before me the descendant of a terrible person, the grandson of a person who had caused me great pain - my brother was a victim of the repression. His fate was in my hands. Should I take revenge on him? But what was he guilty of? He seemed so weak and defenceless. And I wanted to protect him." the king, decided it was not enough. Jules Hardouin-Mansart was hired to redesign parts of the palace. Louis Le Vau He designed and built the beautiful Hall of Mirrors. The Hall of Mirrors received its name because of the fact that there are three hundred and fifty-seven mirrors decorating the seventeen arches that are opposite of the windows. Louis XV died leaving a huge debt to his grandson Louis XVI. Even though he was incredibly in debt, Louis XVI had all the gardens redone right away. Perhaps this is why the French Government went bankrupt and they had to give up the palace. This whole thing eventually started the French Revolution.            In 1792, Versailles was abandoned. All of the furniture was sold and all the art was brought to museums. The palace was left empty. The French government decided to open up the palace as a museum, during the 1830's.

Chekov Lady and the Lapdog Reid about Chekov: The characters in Chekhov's plays are never fully "known" as a writer, he seems to delight in maintaining a sense of indeterminacy, and unknowability, about them. The bare facts are always laughably inadequate to the complexity of "real" people. Anton Pavlovich Chekhov was born on 29 January (New Style), 1860, in Taganrog, a small port on the Sea of Azov, in southern Russia. As the son of a grocer and grandson of a serf, Chekhov was a first-generation intellectual. His modest background and upbringing are crucial to his development as a writer. Chekhov always felt that he missed out on childhood. It was a very hard lifeand it may have contributed to his poor health: he succumbed later on to the"family disease", tuberculosis, which led to his early death at the age of 44.His mother was a quiet, gentle soul who was full of stories of her early life. In later years, Chekhov would say that "we

He was crowned at Westminster Abbey, like his father before him.Stephen was nephew of Henry I and grandson of William I, and was elected to be king in 1135 - although he presumed Henry I daughter Matilda would take the thrown. This decision was made by a council that threw the country into civil war. King Richard I the Lionheart Richard I was known as Richard the Lionheart. A wooden castle was constructed first, but the stone circular curtain wall was in place by the 1230s, when the castle was attacked and taken by Norsemen under Gillespec MacDougall (known as Uspak in Norse), grandson of Somerled. According to The Saga of Haakon Haakonsson, the Norsemen fought for three days to take the castle, breaking down part of the eastern wall by hewing the stone with their axes, and certainly the eastern wall shows signs of damage. This saga is the earliest recorded account of an assault on a Scottish castle. In 1263, Rothesay was taken again by the Norse under Haakon IV before the Battle of Largs. Although the

The descendants of the Danish conquerors became peaceful peasants & traders. They were skilful shipbuilders. They were not very different from the Anglo-Saxons. They had adopted their town. Many Scandinavian words came into the English language (happy, ugly, ill, weak etc.) The Saxons' Golden Age started when Athelstan (Alfred's grandson, Edward's son), won a great victory in 937 against an army of Irish Vikings, Scots & Stathclyde Britons. Athelstan was interested in good government. He ordered on coinage to be used throughout the land. The king was a collector of art & holy relics. After his death his successors, Edmund & Eadred, had to fight new Viking raiders. England was not at peace again until Edgar became king of Wessex in 959. With his death in 975 the golden age ended. After his death, it descended through his grandson to reach, on May 14, 1716, Edward Willes, a 22-year-old minister at Oriel College, Oxford. Willes embarked at once upon a career unique in the annals of cryptology and the church. Special Vulnerabilities Are there particular kinds of people whose need to be consistent with what they've previously said and done makes them especially susceptible to the commitment tactics covered in this chapter? There are. To learn about the traits that character- ize such individuals, it would be useful to examine a painful incident in the life of one of the most famous sports stars of our time. The surrounding events, as laid out in an Associated Press news story at the time (Grandson's drowning, 2005), appear puzzling. On March 1, 2005, golfing leg- end Jack Nicklaus' 17-month-old grandson drowned in a hot tub accident. One week later, a still-devastated Nicklaus brushed aside thoughts of future golf-related activities, including the upcoming Masters tournament, saying "I think that with what's happened to us in our family, my time is going to be spent in much differ- ent ways. I have absolutely zero plans as it relates to the game of golf."Yet, on the
