Estonia traditional costumes

Estonia traditional costumes In Estonia traditional costume denotes mainly the festive peasant dress of the 19th century, which in its time referred besides social status also to national background, as the ruling class were mainly German at the time. The former peasant costume of regional variation has become today a national symbol and has turned due to its altered function into a national dress. Estonian country folk produced their clothing mainly from home-spun woollen or linen fabric: shirts and married women's head-wear was mostly made from linen, while various outer garments, gloves, stockings and socks, were made from wool. The majority of the clothes remained undyed for a long time: linen garments were

Reason for celebrating is, that people can go back in time, and do same things, as it was in the Middle Ages. Days before the festival, organisers have to register sellers, who are going to sell their Middle Ages products. Also, there is a lot of job with searching good musicians and entertainers. On the top of this, it takes lot of time to bring all stages and tables to the festival place. On the actual day, there are many people in the Middle Ages costume. There is a huge Middle Ages fair, and people can buy what ever they like. Participants can see many perfomances, take part of different games, and just have nice days with nice people. If you enjoy fairs, perfomances and meeting Middle Ages traditions, don't miss it! It is the perfect way to spend your summer days.

Dear Meg Thanks a lot for your letter. It was so interesting to hear about English traditions. I wrote about an Estonian holiday. Halloween, or Hallowe'en, is a holiday celebrated on the night of October 31.Halloween activities include trick-or-treating, ghost tours, bonfires, costume parties, visiting "haunted houses" and carving jack-o-lanterns. The term Halloweenis shortened from All-hallow-even, as it is the eve of "All Hallows' Day", which is now also known as All Saints' Day. Irish and Scottish immigrants carried versions of the tradition to North America in the nineteenth century. Other western countries embraced the holiday in the late twentieth century. Halloween is celebrated in several parts of the Western world,

Charlie put on old baggy trousers, a tight jacket, enormously large shoes and a small bowler hat. He also had a small mustache and a cane. His success was immediate and he remained true to his funny costume all through his career. In 1918 he formed his own company and started producing films. He produced 80 films and in 79 of them he played the central character. Many have said that he was the greatest comic genius of all time. What made his comedy so popular was the sympathy for human beings of the oddest sorts as well as for the ordinary people. There was a tasteful moderation in the use of lace. Women's dress was marked by a peculiarly charming form of the side panier, and was made of bright stuffs not too rich and heavy, for one result of the large panier had been to lead to the introduction of lighter and more flexible materials for dresses. In the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries very heavy stuffs had been worn, as these lent themselves to the somewhat rigid silhouettes of fashionable costume. The feminine frame, while capable of much in deference to fashion, cannot support an unlimited quantity of heavy brocade interwoven with metal strands. Some women managed to support damask, which is a heavy material, but looked well, with its bold patterns, when stretched over hoops; but for the majority the result of the new modes was the introduction of lawn, muslin, and dimity, of simple texture but lively pattern, little bouquets or scattered flowers being the most frequent. The glove patterns have been passed down from generation to generation. Many gloves were knittted by using old glove patterns. Specific examples were knitted aswell. The samples were woven combination of patterns, ideas from nature and outings patterns. A.W.Huppel's book from this period emphasizes the knitting among the necessary skills for any housewife and notes that young girls should be able to knit by the age of ten. A typical Estonian woman's costume had a pocket for carrying knitting. They were usually separate bags attached to the outside of the costume or worn hanging from a strap. On the mainland, most knitting was done during the cold season, after the fieldwork was finished. On the islands, knitting was done all year around, while walking, waiting for returning fishermen, or even cooking. By the estonian traditions kinitting has always been the womens work. 13 Lisad

To analyze idioms Here I would like to make ANALYSIS of one expression: Sam, "get a move on"! The idiom "get a move on" is said when a character called Villian asks another character called Sam to hurry because they are late for a party and Sam hasn't put his costume on. Villian tells him to get ready for the party so they won't have to waste more time. Conclusion As result of my reasearch, the hypothesis was cofirmed. If we develop studets' awereness of using idiomatic sentences, we are sure to bring them closer to authentically sounding speech. I can coclude that idioms can be added to vocabulary being learned by including them in dialougues and stories which are created to supplement regular materials. THANK YOU!

This kind of division is the source of the Setos' burning problems: the split-up congregations, location of properties and relatives on the other side of the state border. The Setos have preserved their original dialect, skills of cooking their traditional food, their beautiful and peculiar folk costumes. The most attractive decoration to go with the folk costume is the set of silver jewellery: numerous necklaces and a conic brooch worn by married women. The handicraft of Seto women is fine and colourful. Seto people are known for their original runic verse folk song - leelo. A Leelo choir consists of a chanter and the choir. The chanter is a good improviser. The verses recited by the chanter are repeated by the choir. One of the singers in the choir sings the kille - the highest pitch

Fiji's nearest neighbour is Tonga. The climate in Fiji is tropical and warm most of the year round. Fiji's culture is a rich mosaic of indigenous, Indian, Chinese and European traditions, comprising social polity, language, food (based mainly from the sea, casava, dalo & other vegetables), costume, belief systems, architecture, arts, craft, music, dance and sports. The indigenous culture is very much active and living, and is a part of everyday life for the majority of the population. However, it has evolved with the introduction of old cultures like the Indian and Chinese ones, as well as a large influence from Europe, and from various Pacific neighbors of Fiji, mainly the Tongan,Rotuman and Samoan. The culture of Fiji has created a unique communal and national identity.

The art of dance

"A dance" is any one prescribed sequence of such movements, or the music to which it is performed, or an event at which it takes place. It can be categorized and described in various ways. Still there’s many generic similarities in dances from many different times and places. Theatrical dance, also called performance or concert dance, is intended primarily as a spectacle, usually a performance upon a stage by virtuoso dancers. It often tells a story, perhaps using mime, costume and scenery, or else it may simply interpret the musical accompaniment. Examples are western ballet and modern dance, Classical Indian dance and Chinese and Japanese song and dance dramas. [3] Dancing has been one of the most popular way to have a good time and to entertain someone. It’s a cultural representation, which involves dancers, choreographers, audience, patrons and impresarios. Dance traditions may be limited to one culture, but they all develope.

Film Studies - The Black Dahlia

The visual style in Film Noir is used to replicate the nature of the world in which the films are set. Particularly in the closing sequence, there are many shadows, scene is set at night, darkness is all over the action. By these conventions, the audience can feel the dissorientation, confusion as the characters does. Madeline's mother is in the shadows all the time in the closing sequence. She is mad, confused, we could even say she IS dark, even though her costume is bright. When Bucky and Madeline are in the little room, there are shadows from blinds. In Film Noir blinds usually express restriction and make the audience feel that the room is like cage/prison. The lightning is surrealistic in many ways, it is used to create mood, not to represent life. It fuses expressionism. Developments in Noir include the fact that ``The Black Dahlia`` is set in colour, but usually, many Film Noirs were black and white.

Barbican Centre The Barbican takes its name from the ancient fortifications that used to surround the City. (A barbican is a watchtower that hangs upon a gate.) It remained an upper-class part of town for much of the 17th-century, but by Victorian times the working class had taken over. Due to its proximity to the docks, it suffered plenty of punishing raids in the Blitz German bombs demolished a third of the buildings

Charlotta Kotik has pointed out that Leger's "determination to depict the common man, as well as to create for him, was a result of socialist theories widespread among the avant-garde both before and after World War II. However, Léger's social conscience was not that of a fierce Marxist, but of a passionate humanist".[15] His varied projects included book illustrations, murals, stained-glass windows, mosaics, polychrome ceramic sculptures, and set and costume designs. After the death of his wife in 1950, Léger married Nadia Khodossevitch in 1952. In his final years he lectured in Bern, designed mosaics and stained-glass windows for the Central University of Venezuela in Caracas, Venezuela, and painted Country Outing, The Camper, and the series The Big Parade. In 1954 he began a project for a mosaic for the São Paulo Opera, which he would not live to finish. Fernand Léger died at his home in 1955 and is buried in Gif-sur-Yvette, Essonne. Legacy
