Witchcraft Witchcraft is the alleged use of supernatural or magical powers. A witch (from Old English wicca m. / wicce f.) is a practitioner of witchcraft. Historically, it was widely believed that witchcraft involved the use of these powers to inflict harm upon members of a community or their property, and that all witches were in league with the devil. Since the mid 20th century, the term witchcraft has sometimes been used to distinguish between bad witchcraft and good witchcraft, with the latter often involving healing. Human misfortune was often blamed on a supernatural entity or a known person in the community. Reasons for accusations of witchcraft fall into four general categories: · A person was caught in the act of positive or negative sorcery · A well-meaning sorcerer or healer lost their clients' or the authorities' trust · A person did nothing more than gain the enmity of their neighbours

English literature is one of the oldest literatures in Europe; dates back to the 6th century AD. Oral literature, i.e. not written down, spread from person to person. In 449 AD Anglo-‐Saxon tribes invaded England – beginning of the Anglo-‐Saxon period in English literature. The first form of literature was folklore, carried by scops and gleemen, who sang in alliterative verse (a kind of simple poetry). Prose developed much later. The first form of recorded English literature was the epic Beowulf, which was produced sometime near the end of the 7th and beginning ?

Philip Larkin poetry analysis For my poetry analysis paper I chose Philip Larkin's works, because he was the first British poet whose works I read. I think that his poems are interesting. They reveal much about Larkin's life and about the social issues in the 20th century. Larkin is also considered to be one of the greatest English poets in the 20th century. I think that Larkin was quite interested in politics. For example his poem ´´Talking in Bed´´ begins with the lines /Talking in bed ought to be easiest, Lying together there goes back so far/. At first it gives the reader an idea that he is talking about two lovers, but actually he is talking about England and USA. He describes the darkness that is creeping up. In my opinion he is talking about USA, which is beginning to creep up on England or on Europe. And because of that England is becoming a less dominant and more isolated place. He is saying that intimacy is dying and that may repr
Using one or more examples, explain functions of two hormones in human behavior. Oxytocin is a hormone that is produced by the hypothalamus after being stimulated by the pituitary gland. It is released with touches and hugs. Oxytocin is associated with bonding between a mother and a child and as well as between lovers. If oxytocin is given to healthy individuals, it seems that their brain circuits involved in fear are affected and there is an increase in trust and generosity. The production of melatonin by the pineal gland is stimulated by darkness and inhibited by light. Melatonin levels peak in the middle of the night and decrease towards the morning. As the days get darker, we become tired more early. The use of artificial light can increase the awake time dramatically. Melatonin release correlates to our circadian cycle the biological clock based on the 24-hour day/night cycle. It is suggested that taking melatonin in the early evening may improve one's ability to fall

THE FAMILY Marriage changes over the centuries constantly, surprisingly and swiftly. It cannot be defined as a sacred union between a man and a woman, as marriages have not always been considered sacred. Marriage has often been seen as a union between one man and several women. And sometimes marriage has been seen as a union between one woman and several men, as in southern India, for example, one bride may be shared by several brothers. Marriage has also, at times, been recognized as a union between two men (as in ancient Rome, where marriages between aristocratic males were recognized by law), or as a union between two siblings (as in medieval Europe, when valuable property was at stake); or as a union between two children (again in Europe, when parents wanted to protect their property); or as a union between two unborn (ditto); or as a union between two people of the same social class (once more in Europe, where medieval peasan
