Extended essay: To what extent does a plant-based diet lower the risk of coronary artery disease?

However, having too much of it in your bloodstream causes your arteries to build up a plaque which narrows the arteries and makes it harder for oxygen-rich blood to flow through the arteries into the heart. Individuals who suffer from atherosclerosis are prone to getting a heart attack or angina. While heart attacks have become less deadly overtime, due to modern medicine, it is still important to keep your body healthy to avoid them altogether because heart attacks tend to cause permanent damage to the heart, contributing to heart failure and arrhythmias. 9 There are two types of cholesterol in our body. HDL-cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, is what we call the good cholesterol, because it helps lower the bad cholesterol levels. To raise HDL-cholesterol levels one should consume more healthy fats that are high in omega 3 content. LDL-cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, is

ABOUT SERIAL KILLERS

[Your Name] [Instructor] [Class] [Date] ABOUT SERIAL KILLERS INTRODUCTION Let's play a quick game of catchphrase - guess the word. My phrase is two words, and describes a person. Charles Manson. Ted Bundy. Jack the Ripper. Serial killer - serial meaning "arranged in a straight line or succession" (1) and killer meaning "one who kills, or any agent used to neutralize the active property of anything." We tend to have a morbid interest in people who commit murder. Today, I'd like to explain what distinguishes serial killing from mass murders, how long serial killing has been around, and highlight some of the psychological traits common to serial killers. BODY I. Serial killing vs mass murders Now at a glance serial killing and mass murder seems basically the same: one person kills many other people. The distinction between the two is notable: mass murder

What are the benefits and dangers of building new factories?

What are the benefits and dangers of building new factories? Many successful companies increase their production by building factories. People tend to say it has completly negative effect on them. Do factories affect us unfavourbly or can they also be positive? On the one hand, there are some advantages of building new factories. Firstly, unemployed people get new job. Secondly, country gets huge income from successful company. Next, if factories uses recyclable material, it would save earths resources and also slow down global warming. On the other hand, there are some throwbacks as well. Firstly, companies which do not have

The pros and cons of keeping fit

Keeping fit is a really common topic in the 21th century. People are obsessed with having the perfect body, so they could feel beautiful not only on the inside but outside too. Women tend to want a skinny model body, so they don't feel uncomfortable with their body when they are spending time on the beach during summer time. Unfortunalely, some people are obsessed with it and they tend to over exercise. To begin with, there are many advantages of being fit. Firstly, exercising is really good for health and it also gives more energy and makes less lazy. Secondly, exercising helps to stenght muscles and bones so you will have a strong and good-looking body. It helps to feel more self-confident and open to people. Also exercising with friends can be really interesting and enjoyable. However, there are some disadvantages of keeping fit. Some people are too obsessed about

Why are people ingnoring evironmental issues

Why are people ingnorig evironmental issues? People are always talking about environmental issues without actually doing anything about it.There are not many people who are devoted to saving the Earth. It seems like people just do not care, but that might be just a small part of the reason. The biggest reason for ignoring environmental issues might be that people tend to focus on immediate problems rather than on problems that are far away in the future and seem unrealistic. If there is no immediate danger or a problem to be fixed, than people just do not consider it to be important. And people do have immediate problems to be fixed, because life is getting busier each day. People have already so much to worry about, they do not have the time to make „Earth saving plans“. The perfect reason, or rather an excuse is

Pros and cons of sports

Pros and cons of sports I'm going to talk about advantages and disadvantages of sports. There are several really good reasons why to do sports but always there is something negative in every good thing you have to take into account. On the one hand, sports are really good for your health. Sporting keeps you fit and gives you dicipline. People who do not sport regularly have more illnesses and tend to be overweight. Also, doing sports even extends life and help reduce the feelings of sadness and depression. In addition to that, sporting keeps children busy. Nowadays a lot of kids tend to stupid things at their spare time so when they are doing anykind of sports it keeps them out of trouble and even away from TV and video games, that have really bad influence on their eyes, student achievement and may make them violent. Sport boosts their self confident, motivation and

Why did I choose university education over vocational training? An essay Why more and more people nowadays tend to go to universities rather than to vocational schools? Will going to the university open all the doors in our lives? Is it necessary to have a higher education in order to survive in today’s economy? Those are just some of the questions that may arise when we start talking about the topic. Going to the university was once only for the children from wealthier families. Now as we have a lot of free higher education available, many people tend to use this wonderful opportunity

Personali juhtimine ja organisatsiooni käitumine inglise keeles

Meyer and Allen discribes organisational commitment as a psychological state that characterises organisational members' relationship with the organisation and has implications for the decision to continue or discontinue membership in the organisation. Effects Organisational commitment can have either a negative or a positive effect on the organization. The negative effect implies that the level of organisational commitment is low. Employees with a low level of organisational commitment tend to be unproductive and some become loafers at work. In some cases the high rate of staff turnover and absenteeism are associated with the low level of organisational commitment. Sometimes, when organizational commitment is over-commitment it may cause neurotic compulsion to succeed, extreme high level of energy, overly loyal employees. On the other hand, when commitment is under-commitment it may cause fear of success or failure, chronic and persistent procrastination.

Why students dropp out of college

International aid can contribute to fighting global poverty, hunger and help get access to medical care. It can also provide to solve problems like terrorism, rehabilitation and many other problems. However, receiving countries could misuse international aid. Money could use to fund illegal activities and the strengthening of armed forces. International aid should be used very wisely and judiciously, only then can we eliminate poverty and hunger and other problems in the world. Students tend to drop out because their expectations of college--academically, socially, or both--don't match up with the reality once they get there. They also suffer from lack of motivation, inadequate preparation, and poor study skills. Students who are well prepared for college coursework are more likely to stay in school. Academic help alone is not enough to keep many students in school. Students also need individual support to feel connected to the campus community

priorities too much. Instead of being with their loved ones, people spend more and more time in front of the computer. Has computer really become man's new best friend? On the one hand, computer can be really useful in many circumstances. For example, thanks to computers people can do their job more easily and faster, search information they need or just find out what is happening in the world in general. On the other hand, by spending too much time in front of the computer people tend to waist a lot of time. Because of the fact that Internet is full of various entertainments, people lose sense of time. It may also seem that virtual life is more interesting than the real one. Although computers simplify our lives and have many benefits, there are still many downsides we should not ignore. So computer can be a man's best friend or an enemy. It is everyone's own choice which way it is.

There is something distinctive about every generation Most of the people in general are all the same. Their values, thoughts, realtions and things like that. But every generation has some differences in them, every generation has something distinctive. Having about four generations living together is something very important, but in these days we tend to forget that. Every generation has something to teach the others, all of them have different experiences, conceptions and ways they like to solve problems. For example the ways people acted fifty years ago may not fit into today's world, but then there are the grandchildren's generation that can show and teach elderly how it is acceptable to do something. My favourite outfit

I am from Estonia. I would say I am usually helpful and kind. If anyone needs my help in anything, then I will always lend a hand. I like doing sports and I like to wear sporty clothes, because they are very comfortable. Also, like to wear feminine clothes. My favourite outfit is a leather jacket with blue jeans, a white blouse and black platforms. The leather jacket has white stripes down the sleeves. It is also quite worn-out by now because I have had it for some time now and I tend to wear it throughout the spring and autumn months. In fact it has gotten quite a few little tears where it has got caught on sharp objects. These clothes came from one of those big department stores and not a specialist leather shop. I am a big believer in wearing clothing that makes you feel great. The ideal item of clothing is the one that makes you both look and feel great. Academic success in my culture

success. Whether a student is gifted academically or not, an important factor is personal determination. Students, who invest more of their free time in their studies and make more effort in lectures than their peers, generally have higher levels of academic achievement. A key component to success is a student's work ethic. Students who are willing to put extra hours in to study and prepare for classes and presentations tend to improve their skills and academic abilities. Students, who take less challenging classes or are satisfied with less work, often will have the result of average academic success. As much as teachers, classes and schools are factors in student academic success, parents hold an equally important role. This includes having adult figures, who are positive role models, who value the importance of education as well as providing an appropriate environment to nurture student academic success.

Essay: Crime is a Disease

Crime is a Disease Every day there are thousands of crimes commited in the world. People have different opinions what should be done with the criminals. Some say that as primitive people they need primitive punishment. Therefore they would just be sentenced a large fine or sent to jail. I think that just putting criminals in prison does not help neither does it change them. Thus, when they get out of prison or pay their fine, they usually tend to fall back to their old ways and commit another crime. Criminals have different backgrounds so they have different reasons for their deeds. Some come from broken homes, some may have been influenced by their friends, some may have commited a crime out of lifes circumstances, for example poverty, and some crimes might happen by an accident, by human error. During and after their imprisonment criminals should get some mental help. A psychologist

Estonians: What we’re really like

We love sports and working out is a part of our lives, that's why you don't see almost any overweight people in the streets. We are reputed to be quite stubborn, I don't think that's true about our stereotype. I do think that we're too reserved. We're too tense all the time and don't really go with it when somebody is trying to make us laugh. It takes a little time until we warm up and start to communicate. Somehow we tend to make jokes on ourselves. Then you may realize, that you can really have fun with us.

Article: Estonians

Estonians... Estonia is quite a northern country and therefore Estonians may seem a bit peculiar to ones from south, but don't be scared, they will not eat you (alive). Estonians are quite tranquilly and bottled up people - they might love or hate you and if you're not an expert will not make a difference as they didn't care at all. Rarely tend they to kiss or hug each other unless their beloved ones. So if they nevertheless do it then there's a great chance you're dealing with some non- Estonians. But there's no reason for worrying- if a person is from a region where that kind of over-loving-behaviour is common and he or she practices it anyway then a bathetic Estonian will just bear it and play along. In case of visiting like in many other European countries in Estonia it's also polite to bring

Kätlin Keinast Marriage an outdated tradition Marriage has been a very important part of peoples´ lives since ancient times. Over the years things have changed and more couples tend not to make so strong commitments any more. It seems to me that marriage is losing it´s meaning and traditional values. What would be the reasons? To begin with, I believe it is strongly connected with the high standards people have. I find that people are quite distrustful of each other, that is why they prefer not to make serious relationships. It think that avoiding serious commitments is like a self-protection. In this sense break-up would be easier to manage with than divorce

Books Today and Tomorrow

Books Today and Tomorrow Why is it important to read books? Do people read less books than in the past? Will people read less in the future? Books have always played a great role in our lives and reading them is highly important. It increases knowledge and expands vocabulary, which integrates to writing. Reading books makes a person more intelligent and it gives a different perspective. Nowadays people tend to read less books than they used to. The main reason for this catastrophy is the development of technology. People would rather watch moving pictures in the television than pick up an old book covered in dust. In the past, when there were no television or computers to entertain people, books were basically the only amusement. On the other hand the lifestyle of ours has gotten tremendously busy and some do not find the time to just sit back and relax by reading.

Choices after secondary school essay

To begin with, when one is applying to university, there are some tests that should be taken. After just finishing the secondary school, brain is capable of managing the pressure of learning and it is much easier to take the test right away. In addition, if the person knows what she/he wants to study, it would be a good idea to look for the best university and start taking the first steps forward, closer to the dream job. Although, going to university is extremely essential, some people tend to go to work after graduating from high school. If the ''perfect career'' search has not given any results, it is better to go to work and give yourself a little more time to figure out your life goals. Therefore, there will be some time to earn money or maybe even travel the world. The worst decision would be to choose the wrong university program. To sum up, I believe that both options are suitable. Going to university gives the opportunity

They believe, however, that many social programs are too costly to the taxpayers and that when taxes are raised to pay for such programs, everyone is hurt. They often accuse the Democrats of making the government too expensive and of creating too many laws that harm individual initiative. For that reason, Americans tend to think of the Republican party as more conservative. There are other, smaller parties in the United States besides the two major parties. None of these smaller parties, however, has enough popular support to win a presidential election. Americans do not have to join a political party in order to vote or to be a candidate for a public office. Whether or not they belong to a party, voters may cast ballots for any candidate they wish

Work or university?

One reason for this is that people have different abilities. Not everybody is suitable for university. The second reason is that perhaps they don't want to spend a lot of time on academic education. They are interested in particular profession which doesn't need an academic degree and want to move on with their life. Positive sides are that people can earn money and grow up faster. Negative sides are that it's not easy to get a job if doesn't have an education. Employees tend to prefer employers who have a good education and work experience. The second choice is to go to university after finishing secondary school. In Estonia, a lot of people are going to university. Then you can get an academic education. Positive sides are that people who go there are more intelligent and get broad horizons. They also get a lot of knowledge which makes more money in the future. Schools should provide computers for every student

Younger students might be really interfered by the number of options they can do with their computer. Most of all children have accounts in different social networks and if they are given an opportunity to feel free while using computer at school they might get carried away and forget the purpose of this device at certain lessons. Finally, there have been many complaints about plagiarism. As long as the internet has unlimited amount of information, many students tend to copy the articles or information and give them out as their own ideas or creations. That decreases percentage of child's or adolescent's brain work, which later will not pay off. It seems to me that providing every student with computer is not necessary. After all it is very useful to have cyber classes at school, which can be visited few times a month.

Virtual friendship

Virtual friendship Virtual world undoubtedly makes our lives easier and makes it easier for us to get more friends, but are those real friends? Although virtual world gives us a chance to make more friends, there is considerable disagreement over whether these new friends are real or not. The main argument for the virtual world being superficial is that nowadays people rather tend to stay in front of their screens and just talk than go out and have a good time eye to eye. Therefore people might not have any idea who they are talking to or what these people really think of them. What is more, people often spend more time with their virtual friends chatting rather than dedicating time to the people that truly care about them. A final key argument relates to people turning lasier, with internet people will go less outside to make real friends

The role of television in our society

We depend on it to entertain us with its sitcoms and to inform us about current world issues. The problem is that sometimes what we hear or see on television is not always accurate or correct. Sometimes news stories give us the wrong information and we believe that it is true because that is being said on television. They may give you a story, but they may leave out some details to prove their point or to make the story more interesting. We are also the most ill-informed people because we tend to want to watch the entertainment shows and not tune it to the news broadcasts so we are not informed about what is going on in our world. We complain that there aren't enough intelligent in the world and yet we are being misinformed by what is supposed to be our main source of information. Television is powerful enough to make our shopping easier. Actually, it is makeing us lazier. TV shows such as the Home Shopping Network make shopping easy as dialing some numbers on a touch tone phone

Eating out usually means that we have little control over how the food is prepared or how large the portion is. Foods eaten out tend to be higher in fat and research has shown that those who eat out regularly generally have higher intakes of fat, salt and calories. Studis have also shown that eating with friends can tempt us to overeat. Unlike packaged food, doods bought from cafes, restaurants dont have to carry nutritional information and so opting for the healthiest option might not always be abvious or easy. Fast food saves our time and money? Essee

Consuming too much salt can contribute to high blood pressure, water retention and obesity. It is not uncommon for a single meal consisting of a cheeseburger, fries and a shake to have the equivalent of an entire or even two days' worth of calories. What is more, eating snack food encourages people to eat on the go. People are encouraged to eat quickly and then leave the premises or eat while doing something else. People who eat quickly tend to consume calories mindlessly. This can easily lead to overeating. In conclusion, eating snack food is sometimes normal, but when it starts to happen every day, it will become a real problem. As Steve Elbert says “We think fast food is equivalent to pornography, nutritionally speaking.”

Children who consistently spend more than 4 hours per day watching TV are more likely to be overweight. Of course, television can be educational and teach children something, such as self- defense whilst also teaching them fighting. Nevertheless, kids who view violent acts are more likely to show aggressive behavior but also fear that the world is scary and that something bad will happen to them. The role of the free press

the lifestyles of the rich and famous is amusing and can help people forget their own problems. However, journalists frequently intrude on the privacy of celebrities, following them and photographing them in their most intimate moments. This is surely an unacceptable interpretation of the word "free". As far as politics are concerned, the free press is important as it often reveals the truth behind all the speeches and accusations. Unfortunately, most newspapers tend to favour a particular political party, meaning that their articles are not objective. In addition, sometimes the information published may not necessarily be entirely true and thus cause damage to the politicians concerned. From an educational point of view, newspapers and magazines are an important source of uptodate information and indepth articles, reporting on both local and international events

Do you consider yourself more functionalist or more conflict theorist?

Do you consider yourself more functionalist or more conflict theorist? Please explain why? Functionalism and conflict theory are very different views of society, but they are not exactly opposites. Both have arguments, that make people think about the society they live in and both have theorists who critize each other. In my opinion, none of the theories are completely wrong but I do tend to agree with people on the conflict theory side. Firstly, functionalism ignores inequality and focuses too much on the positive functions in society. For example racism, functionalists will say that it must be imporant in order to exist as long as it has but in my opinion that sounds quite doubtful. The most problematic part about racism is above all the tension and conflict which comes with it. Seems to me, that functionalists ignore the negative sides which society has on people. Secondly, I agree ...

The traveler sees what he sees, the tourist sees what he has come to see

The traveler sees what he sees, the tourist sees what he has come to see To most people, the words tourist and traveler have the same meaning - a person visiting a foreign country to see what it has to offer. However, for people in the travel community these titles may have vastly different meanings. For many, when hearing the word tourist, a stereotypical picture comes to mind: a person with cargo shorts, a hawaiian shirt, a huge hat and sunglasses with a camera around their neck and map in hand. That is rather common amongst tourists, wearing what’s comfortable and they’d wear at home and not putting much effort into blending in. Their trips are usually planned to the T, leaving no room for any spontaneous adventures that might come up along the way. They tend to only see the ‘must see’ tourist attractions, stay in a good hotels overall sticking to all the amenities that are similar to home. A traveller however is diffe...

Manners in Estonia

their first name. Cultural Traditions Estonian culture as an identity is very strong. Oral traditions especially have played a key role in preserving traditions, stories and customs during Soviet administration. Singing is a very Estonian activity and the Estonians are known to have sung their way to freedom during the "Singing Revolution" of 1989-91. Manners Estonians on the whole are quiet and reserved. They tend to speak softly and do not like to draw attention to themselves. Being rational, calm and not going to emotional extremes are all qualities that respected. At first Estonians can come across as aloof. Once a relationship warms up this becomes less so. Meeting and Greeting Greetings can come across as rather formal and rather reserved. Men should initiate greetings with women and the younger person always greets the older person.

The invention of the car changed the world

life without cars in it? We´d find it to be rather difficult. Probably the fact would blow up our day schedules and most of the plans that are made. In the olden days, a car was a poduct which was ment to be only for the rich ones. To the contrary, nowadays cars are very easily available for everyone (!).Speaking of which, it´s not much to mention that one extremely wierd and sad occasion would be that some people take advantage of haveing a car and tend to take up too high speeds for showing how tough fellows they are. Often boasting like this can cause big devastations, meaning accidents and all kinds of fines, not mentioning times, when a driver might be under influence of the alcohol, which is definitely the worst possibility of all. But that´s the world we live in and when we meet such an unusual situation, we´d have a fair opportunity to say that cars have a badbad influence on our welfare society.

Sun Bear

Sun Bear The Sun Bear is 120-150 cm long, making it the smallest member in the bear family. Males tend to be 10-45% larger than females the former normally weigh between 30 and 70 kg , and the latter between 20 and 40 kg. The shoulder height is about 60-72cm .The Sun Bear possesses sickle-shaped claws that are relatively light in weight. It has large paws with naked soles, probably to assist in climbing. Its inward-turned feet make the bear's walk pigeon toed, but it is an excellent climber. It has small, round ears and a stout snout. The tail is 1.2-2.8 inches (3-7 cm) long. Despite its small size, the Sun Bear possesses a very long, slender tongue, ranging from 8 to 10 inches (20-25 cm) in length. The bear uses it to extract honey from beehives. Unlike other bears, the Sun Bear's fur is short and sleek. This adaptation is probably due to the lowland climates it inhabits. Dark black or brown-bl...

and have the ability not to follow our instincts. The knowledge we have is used to make our world more controllable. The structure of our society is difficult and widely controlled by economy, politics, science and technology. Our lives do not depend on nature, we have created our own artificial world and we are proud to be able to control it. In my opinion, developed countries have separated themselves from nature and by our actions we tend to harm it as well. Our thoughts should not be focusing on what is beneficial to us, but also to what is beneficial to the environment we live in. There is no other creature on planet Earth more developed than human. We are not wild anymore, we are the controllers of this planet. We have more opportunities, but we have to be responsible as well as there are no excuses to our behaviour. Our accomplishments are big and hopefully in the future we are able to archive even more.

Different cultures

Third factor is "emotional constraints." Different cultures regulate the display of emotion differently. Some cultures get very emotional when they are debating an issue. They yell, they cry, they exhibit their anger, fear, frustration, and other feelings openly. Other cultures try to keep their emotions hidden, exhibiting or sharing only the "rational" or factual aspects of the situation. All of these differences tend to lead to communication problems. If the people involved are not aware of the potential for such problems, they are even more likely to fall victim to them, although it takes more than awareness to overcome these problems and communicate effectively across cultures. In my opinion different cultures are blessing. Different cultures motivate people to learn other languages and the rules of courtesy. For example if you want to travel to

Car v. walking

Car v. walking Today, people are becoming more and more comfortable and lazier. People are buying more cars than ever, and are starting to forget what is walking; they tend to forget that walking is also one of the ways of traveling. But which is better travelling by car or walking on foot? On the one hand, travelling by car is much quicker than travelling on foot, on foot, people are travelling about 5 km/h, but with car, you can travel so fast, how fast you are allowed to. Also, car is much more comfortable, especially nowadays. But the biggest plus in travelling by car in my opinion, is that, when

A person who has committed a crime loses his/her right to be

with people with good past and we often choose people with same views on life beside us. However, I think it is not always true, that a person who has committed a crime, doesn't have accurate posture, because there can be many different reasons why a crime was committed and what kind of reasons did it have. Second, another area, where we can find inequality, is at work. When looking for a job, first of all, people without criminal past are chosen first. Employers tend to choose their employees regarding to the past, because they are careful about a person they choose to work with. You should be able to trust a person, to rely on him/her and who can value honesty and work ethics. Quite frequently people who committed a crime aren't even given a chance to prove, can they can also be valuable employees. In conclusion, it is hard to be treated as equal, if you have committed a crime. It is a formed standard, which doesn't seem to change much during the years. A

see any positive way to get out of it. I have to say that I strongly believe in the meaning of this proverb and I try to recall it in my mind every time I'm in a complicated situation. Although I, like every other person in this world, have my ups and downs, I mostly like to think of myself as a positive person. I always seem to surprise people with my "can-do" attitude and smiley face, especially in severe or akward situations. I tend to believe that there's always something good in bad and that things will always turn out well, no matter how hopeless circumstances might be. Some of my friends, as well as couple of my family members are strong pessimists. While spending time with them I feel how their negative and passive attitude is slowly starting to affect me too. I wish it would be the other way round - I'd affect them with my positivity. But I guess unfortunately I adopt different
