An opinion essay A true friend is worth more than gold Some people say that a true friend is worth more than gold. I totally agree with this and would like to explain my point of view. Firstly, I'd like to say that a true friend is someone who shares your life the good times and the bad in contrast to acquaintances with whom you have a superficial relationship and their life is a closed book to you. Moreover, true friends may trust each other so they never have secrets. Also, he can bare his inner feelings to you, and will support you through thick and thin because a true friend always knows all about you and can give you some advices which could help you to solve certain problems. Finally, you can rely on a friend to tell you the truth, even if it's not always pleasant so there is no envy and hidden agendas between friends
First of all, if parents could design their own baby everyone would be perfect. What is more there would not be any babies born with illnesses or disabilities, both mental and physical. This is good news both to parents and children because living together with a handicap or being one is a very hard and sad thing. Another major point is, how far would people go designing their babies. One thing is to make sure that your baby is healthy but to design your child's appearance is superficial, what is more, it is morally wrong. In addition the way one person looks is not as important as the personality. To sum people should not have the right to design their own children. The only thing parents should have the right to control is whether their child is going to be healthy and free from diseases.
just sit back and relax by reading. With the development of technology, people will become more lazier which may result in the lack of reading. Printed books will be replaced with e-books, print media with social media and so on. They feel that books are unnecessary, all the information needed and more is available online. Furthermore we do not value education and intellectuality much anymore, instead we value more superficial things such as entertainment. Reading is not only amusing and entertaining but it also broadens the ming and keeps the brain functioning. It is a tremendous shame that people read less books time by time.
Also the benefits of toursim are often skimmed off by businessmen from outside the community. It ruins and changes the local peoples culture. The Masai of East Africa, for instance, are used as icons of exoticism in toursism, but they have been evicted from their lands. The Masais are selling souvenirs, charging for pictures and performing their sacred dances for tourists to get living. These things show that the destruction is not just a superficial consenquence of tourism, but is often an indication of much more deep-rooted cultural changes. But a quiet cultural revolution is happening. Communities are standing up and asking for something different. Over the last decade there has been a rapid growth in local ,,alternative tourism" initiatives. This means that buildings are built by locals with sustainable local materials, food is bought from local farmers and a limit on development has been set so that local
Virtual friendship Virtual world undoubtedly makes our lives easier and makes it easier for us to get more friends, but are those real friends? Although virtual world gives us a chance to make more friends, there is considerable disagreement over whether these new friends are real or not. The main argument for the virtual world being superficial is that nowadays people rather tend to stay in front of their screens and just talk than go out and have a good time eye to eye. Therefore people might not have any idea who they are talking to or what these people really think of them. What is more, people often spend more time with their virtual friends chatting rather than dedicating time to the people that truly care about them. A final key argument
Character Sketch-Shug Avery The Color Purple by Alice Walker Shug Avery was a very passionate African-American blues singer, and I believe quite a lot throughout the novel. Her evolvement was interesting to observe. First impression of her wasn’t positive because she appeared rather inelegant and also quite selfish. In essence, she seemed to be unlikable as well as superficial. Shug (originally Lilly) didn’t really embrace herself and adopted a nickname – “Shug”. However she developed a sexual relationship with Celie and with that broke the boundaries of traditional gender roles. She was outspoken, exteremely honest and not easy to affect. All her three children were born out of wedlock. She is a good example of sexuality and gender not being as univocal and simplistic topics as they may seem since she was a bisexual (sexual relationship with Celie).

an apple with poison ivy and leaves it for Amy. Amy ends up with blisters covering her face and backs out of the trip. On the trip, Elizabeth seduces Scott. They engage in non-penetrative sex, and Elizabeth secretly calls Amy to ensure she knows. However, Scott's peculiar behavior starts annoying Elizabeth. Elizabeth later gives advice to one of her students (Matthew J. Evans) who has an unrequited crush on a superficial girl in class, which causes her to reflect on how she has been superficial as well. After hearing Elizabeth and Scott having sex, Amy switches Elizabeth's desk with her own to trick the janitor into unlocking Elizabeth's sealed drawer. The evidence Amy finds leads her to suspect Elizabeth cheated on the state exam. Amy informs the principal and gets Carl to testify against her. However, Elizabeth took embarrassing photos of Carl while he was drugged and uses them to blackmail him to say she is innocent. Having noticed her desk was
will be free of the pressure to be his doll. The terms of having a "perfect" life are far too steep if society's perception is held more important than family and a marriage. Torvald and Nora's relationship was doomed to fail as Torvald embraced being accepted in his community more so than keeping his wife safe. Nora would inevitably have the realization that her marriage was flawed, and her true, strong nature was revealed as she left her superficial life for the unknown. Her change of character contrasts with her initial character and the title of the play, which both resembled perfection and happiness. Nonetheless, as Torvald had said, "an exit should always be effective"(1142). Work Cited Ibsen, Henrik. "A Doll House" Literature: Approaches to Fiction, Poetry, and Drama. 2nd ed. Robert DiYanni. his writing career. Dodgson became close friends with Liddell's wife, Lorina, and their children, particularly the three sisters: Lorina, Edith and Alice Liddell. He was for many years widely assumed to have derived his own "Alice" from Alice Liddell. This was given some apparent substance by the fact the acrostic poem at the end of Through the Looking Glass spells out her name, and that there are many superficial references to her hidden in the text of both books. It has been pointed out that Dodgson himself repeatedly denied in later life that his "little heroine" was based on any real child, and frequently dedicated his works to girls of his acquaintance, adding their names in acrostic poems at the beginning of the text. Gertrude Chataway's name appears in this form at the beginning of The
strategists but applies equally well to the urban planning environment. Science Fiction- Over the past century, science fiction has proven a rich source of creative scenarios about the future. Construction of Persuasive Stories As opposed to scenarios, persuasive stories are not meant merely to prepare their audience for the future, but to convince people to adopt the storyteller’s preferred course of action. Conclusion- Current practice in planning addresses the future in ways that are superficial, shortsighted, or hollow. Academics have contributed very little to this cause, leaving planning practitioners to their own devices. If they so desired, planning academics could surely help to build a more intellectually sophisticated and defensible approach to shaping the future. Taken together, however, these elements form a planning toolkit useful for construction of normative futures that are firmly grounded in time as well as space.
EE". Further, Crystal (1995) calls `Estuary English' "something of a misnomer, for the influence of London speech has for sometime been evident well beyond the Thames estuary, notably in the Oxford-Cambridge-London triangle (p.50) and in the area to the south and east of London as far as the coast." Moore (p.c.), UK coordinator of the European Network of Innovative 10 Schools, best describes the drawbacks of the term `EE': The name is neither helpful nor accurate. Because of a superficial resemblance of some features to the speech sounds of the south-east of England, it has been named for the Thames estuary. But there is no evidence that it really originates there - and is probably far more geographically diverse in its origins. The description is also stupid, since it omits the name of the river - as if the Thames were the only river with an estuary. It is yet more stupid because the distribution of the accent has no real

The empirical evidence suggests that the longer an essay is, the more highly valued it is by a rater. This could be because the writer provides additional details which improves the essay's standing in the eyes of the grader. However, this relationship is not linear, but logarithmic.More specifically, it appears as if essay length is important up to a point, but beyond a certain theshold it carries little additional weight. Though this counting method is admittedly superficial, it is an indicator of sentence complexity, and is also tied 3 conceptually to the intrinsic characteristic of style. It is useful to note that this one prox is joined with a number of others to estimate the trin, and would not normally be used as a single indicator for the trait. As alluded to previously, the prox (or prox cluster) variables are regressed against the essay

Levin and Stiva dine together at a fancy French restaurant, and are once again contrasted. Stiva is of course comfortable and at home in an elegant restaurant, while Levin is noticeably out of place. Still, Levin doesn't care, for he is disgusted with superficial elements of life. Stiva refuses to speak French with the waiter, because he doesn't want to give the waiter an upper-class social status. At the restaurant, Levin and Stiva discuss women, and Levin laments his love for Kitty. He also seeks her forgiveness, since he "played around" during his younger years. During the conversation between the two men, Stiva reveals a certain liking for the count (since the count has amassed such status), but still tells Levin that he should
In terms of the ways in which the machine altered our relations to one another and to ourselves, it mattered not in the least whether it turned out cornflakes or Cadillacs. The restructuring of human work and association was shaped by the technique of fragmentation that is the essence of machine technology. The essence of automation technology is the opposite. It is integral and decentralist in depth, just as the machine was fragmentary, centralist, and superficial in its patterning of human relationships. The instance of the electric light may prove illuminating in this connection. The electric light is pure information... It is a medium without a message, as it were, unless it is used to spell out some verbal a ad or name. This fact, characteristic of all media, means that the " Intent"_ of any medium is always .another medium. Wilson-Harris - A British war veteran whom Jake and Bill befriend while fishing in Spain. The three men share a profound common bond, having all experienced the horrors of World War I, as well as the intimacy that soldiers develop. Harris, as Jake and Bill call him, is a kind, friendly person who greatly values the brief time he spends with Jake and Bill. Georgette - A beautiful but somewhat thick-witted prostitute whom Jake picks up and takes to dinner. Jake quickly grows bored of their superficial conversation and abandons her in a club to be with Brett. Belmonte - A bullfighter who fights on the same day as Pedro Romero. In his early days, Belmonte was a great and popular bullfighter. But when he came out of retirement to fight again, he found he could never live up to the legends that had grown around him. Hence, he is bitter and dejected. He seems to symbolize the entire Lost Generation in that he feels out of place and purposeless in his later adult life.
uncomfortable for the client and its results are short-term. The aim of the paper is to work out recommendations for alternative methods of facial treatment. For the current paper the author worked with specific literature, magazines and sources from internet, to carry out a survey and an experiment. During the experiment the author visited several beauty salons and tested substitute treatments for classical facial treatment, e.g. microdermabrasion, ultrasound facial, superficial chemical peeling, Elsa Hjeronymus method, vacuum massage, to identify the performance of the treatments and their effectiveness. In addition, the author visited 20 different beauty salons to carry out a survey among working beauticians, giving them a prepared questionnaire. The questions covered the use and popularity of mechanical treatment and its substitutes among clients and beauticians, their effectiveness and cost rate.
Served in the canadian flying corps, took part of the WWI. He met Sherwood Anderson, who recommended that Faulkner's first book would be published. Anderson was very helpful and influencial. There are 3 major stages of his career. His first major book was published 1924, 1926 second masterpiece ,,Soldier's Pay"-anti war novel in the tradition of the lost generation. 14 Reference and referring In standard logical notation: Let W represent the predicate " . . . authored Waverley" and S represent " . . . was Scotch." Then Russell's three conditions are: (a) (x)Wx (b) (x)(Wx (y) (Wy y = x)) (c) (x)(Wx Sx) (a)(c) are conjointly equivalent to (d) (x)(Wx & ((y) (Wy y = x) & Sx)) Russell's position is that (d) correctly expresses the logical form of (5), as distinct from (5)'s superficial grammatical form. We have already encountered an example of this distinction, in chapter 1, illustrated by the sentence "I saw nobody." Superficially, that sentence has the same form as "I saw Martha"-- Subject+Transitive Verb+Object. Yet the two differ sharply in their logical properties. "I saw Martha" entails that I saw someone, while "I saw nobody" entails precisely the opposite; it is equivalent to "It's not the case that I saw anyone" and to "There is no one that I saw
Although strictly speaking, realism is a technique, it also denotes a particular kind of subject matter, especially the representation of middleclass life. A reaction against romanticism, an interest in scientific method, the systematizing of the study of documentary history, and the influence of rational philosophy all affected the rise of realism. According to William Harmon and Hugh Holman, "Where romanticists transcend the immediate to find the ideal, and naturalists plumb the actual or superficial to find the scientific laws that control its actions, realists center their attention to a remarkable degree on the immediate, the here and now, the specific action, and the verifiable consequence" (A Handbook to Literature 428). Many critics have suggested that there is no clear distinction between realism and its related late nineteenthcentury movement, naturalism. As Donald

Me pregunté si los profetas y los sabios de las religiones orientales y occidentales, esos que llamamos «realizados», eran capaces de utilizar ese estado para obtener su sabiduría y sus conocimientos. En ese caso, todos tendríamos la capacidad de hacerlo, pues todos debemos de poseer ese supraconsciente. El psicoanalista Carl Jung sabía de la existencia de los diferentes niveles de conciencia;
edge of the industry. It's especially true when those bits of received wisdom lead to successful, popular entertainments. T h e Hero's Journey language is clearly becoming part of the storytelling common knowledge and its principles have been used consciously to create hugely popular films. But there is danger in this self-awareness. Overreliance on traditional language or the latest buzzwords can lead to thoughtless, cookie-cutter products. Lazy, superficial use of Hero's Journey terms, taking this metaphorical system too literally, or arbitrarily imposing its forms on every story can be stultifying. It should be used as a form, not a formula, a reference point and a source of inspiration, not a dictatorial mandate. xviii PREFACE CULTURAL IMPERIALISM Another of the clangers of standardized language and methods is that local differ
Shorthairs, with American Shorthairs. The white mitts occur natually in some lines of Siamese where they are considered a fault. Today Snowshoes generally result from Snowshoe to Snowshoe breedings although they may still be outcrossed to one of the founding breeds in order to expand their gene pool, introduce new colours, or improve type or colour/pattern. Officially the breed claims no Birman ancestry despite the superficial resemblance in pattern. Snowshoes were developed in the USA by Dorothy Hinds in the late 1960s when her two Siamese cats produced kittens each with four white feet. White spotting sometimes showed up in early Siamese cats (white toes are occasionally still found). She dubbed them Snowshoes. The variant did not recur so she crossed a Siamese with a bicolour American Shorthair. In addition to the white mitts, this eventually produced the inverted white 'V' on the face.
From a higher perspective, it is not possible to be out of alignment with the evolution of the universe, and even human unconsciousness and the suffering it generates is part of that evolution. When you can't stand the endless cycle of suffering anymore, you being to awaken. So the pain-body too has its necessary place in the larger picture. PRESENCE A woman in her thirties came to see me. As she greeted me, I could sense the pain behind her polite and superficial smile. She started telling me her story, and within one second her smile changed into a grimace of pain. Then, she began to sob uncontrollably. She said she felt lonely and unfulfilled. There was much anger and sadness. As a child she had been abused by a physically violent father. I saw quickly that her pain was not caused by her present life circumstances but by an extraordinarily heavy pain-body. Her pain-body had become the filter through which she viewed her life situation.
" In part it is a kind of guilt by association. From the early days of its existence, cryptology had served to obscure critical portions of writings dealing with the potent subject of magic—divinations, spells, curses, whatever conferred supernatural powers on its sorcerers. Another important factor was the confusion of cryptology with the Jewish kabbalah. But, important as all these were, the view that cryptology is black magic in itself springs ultimately from a superficial resemblance between cryptology and divination. Extracting an intelligible message from ciphertext seemed to be exactly the same thing as obtaining knowledge by examining the flight of birds, the location of stars and planets, the length and intersections of lines in the hand, the entrails of sheep, the position of dregs in a teacup. In all of these, the wizard-like operator draws sense from grotesque, unfamiliar, and apparently meaningless signs. He makes known the unknown.

The poly-stylistics so abundantly (often superficial and trivial) practised at that time makes me think about its aims and goals. A genuine work of art must justify itself, without reservations, by being based on a firm substantial creative idea. When we observe the symphonic and stage work of some composers of the fourth generation: Põldmäe, Kuulberg, Kangro, Sumera and Tüür, the positive feature is that the artists were not prejudiced. They are continually searching and have a strong will and energy

As I drank the day's first cup of coffee, I watched him interact with Cary and I was genuinely thrilled to see the intimate smiles and covert touches they gave one another. I'd had easy relationships like that and hadn't appreciated them at the time. They had been comfortable and uncomplicated, but they'd been superficial in a fundamental way, too.
