Shakespeare/Poems and Sonnets

His plays have been translated into every major living language and are performed more often than those of any other playwright. POEMS · In 1593 and 1594, when the theatres were closed because of plague, Shakespeare published two narrative poems on erotic themes, Venus and Adonis and The Rape of Lucrece. He dedicated them to Henry Wriothesley, Earl of Southampton. In Venus and Adonis, an innocent Adonis rejects the sexual advances of Venus; while in The Rape of Lucrece, the virtuous wife Lucrece is raped by the lustful Tarquin. Influenced by Ovid's Metamorphoses, the poems show the guilt and moral confusion that result from uncontrolled lust.[ Both proved popular and were often reprinted during Shakespeare's lifetime. peab olema saabunud. Viimane tuleneb kaasusest Marshall v. Southampton and S.W. Hampshire AHA (kaasus 152/84 [1986] ECR 723), kus kohus otsustas, et siseriikliku kohtu menetluses saab pool toetuda vahetu toimega direktiivile asjas liikmesriigi vastu, kes pole direktiivi täitnud, kuid ei saa toetuda direktiivile asjas teise individuaalse poole vastu. Mõningatel juhtudel võib üksikisik toetuda direktiivi normile isegi teise üksikisiku vastu, sest siseriiklikud kohtud on kohustatud tõlgendama siseriikliku õigust direktiivi järgi, aga sellest allpool. 11

for his satirical works, particularly Vanity Fair, a panoramic portrait of English society. Thackeray, an only child, was born in Calcutta, India, where his father, Richmond Thackeray (1 September 1781 13 September 1815), held the high rank of secretary to the board of revenue in the British East India Company. William had been sent to England earlier, at the age of five, with a short stopover at St. Helena where the imprisoned Napoleon was pointed out to him. He was educated at schools in Southampton and Chiswick and then at Charterhouse School, where he was a close friend of John Leech. He disliked Charterhouse, parodying it in his later fiction as "Slaughterhouse." Illness in his last year there (during which he reportedly grew to his full height of 6'3") postponed his matriculation at Trinity College, Cambridge, until February 1829. Never too keen on academic studies, he left the University in 1830. Thackeray's years of semi-idleness

pump water down to them. The first geothermal power station was built at Landrello, in Italy, and the second was at Wairekei in New Zealand. Others are in Iceland, Japan, the Philippines and the United States. In Iceland, geothermal heat is used to heat houses as well as for generating electricity. If the rocks aren't hot enough to produce steam we can sometimes still use the energy - the Civic Centre in Southampton, England, is partly heated this way as part of a district heating scheme with thousands of customers.. Advantages * Geothermal energy does not produce any pollution, and does not contribute to the greenhouse effect. * The power stations do not take up much room, so there is not much impact on the environment. * No fuel is needed. * Once you've built a geothermal power station, the energy is almost free.

Bridges presentation

The Greeks and Romans had used it to reinforce stone pediments and columns in their temples and iron links had been forged by the Chinese and used in suspension bridges. The successful smelting of iron with coke, rather than charcoal, by English ironmaster Abraham Darby in 1709 freed iron production from fuel shortage restrictions, made large castings possible, and facilitated creation of the arch ribs for the world's first iron bridge, built seventy years later. In 1754, Henry Cort of Southampton (England) built the first rolling mill, making possible the efficient shaping of bar iron; in 1784 he patented a puddling furnace by means of which the carbon content in cast iron could be reduced to produce malleable iron. These two milestones of metallurgy realized the potential of iron as a major building material. Bridges were one of the first structural uses of iron, preceded only by columns (not yet beams) to support the floors of textile mills.
