Romany music has affected a lot of different people´s folk music, especially in eastern Europe. I wanted to know why Romani music has become so popular and well-known and also what characterizes Romani music. Those were the questions why I decided to choose this topic to do my year paper. I found out that its popularity lies in its ability to change and develop with time and people. Romani music is so emotional, natural and sincere, so that people can laugh and cry along with the Romani musicians. Gypsy musicians have an unfailing ability to absorb local styles and make them their own. What I liked the most in this year paper, was searching information about gypsy punk and jazz. I had not heard about these styles before, so I got a lot of new music to listen to. I also admire Romani musicians´ great playing skills. Gypsies have something to be proud of and it is their music.
