The twilight saga: Eclipse
First of all I have to say that in order to understand this book you need to read the first two books also or at least watch the movies .
The novel is set in a small Washington city called Forks. Since Eclipse is the third novel in Stephen Meyer’s twilight series it carries on not long after the second book New Moon was left off.
The love of Bella ’s life-Edward has left her and she is devastated .She finds comfort in Jacobs friendship ,what in time will become more affectionate .But it all ends when Edward comes back and they decide to be together again.
Bella’s high school graduation is approaching and she will soon be leaving Forks forever , to go to college - but in reality she is planning to become an vampire and will therefore be unable to return home, because of a terrible blood lust that will possess her in the first few years .
There are quite many storylines .Besides the graduation and Bella becoming a vampire ,the third important story is about dangerous vampires in Seattle who Cullen ’s have to fight with in order to save their own image and also Bella’s life .
The third book also shows the light on how the Cullen’s became vampires and how the werewolves came into existence. These parts mix well with the storyline of Bella being still hunted by the revenge seeking vampire Victoria (from the second book) who has formed an army of new born vampires to destroy Cullens and Bella. Cullen’s with the help of the werewolves plan to fight against her army and end all the killings once and for all.
Eclipse is mainly a romantic saga ,where Bella’s relationship with Jacob and Edward is the primary focus of the novel .Bella and Jacob have been friends for a long time and eventually they develop a more serious relationship . Although Bella is certain about her feeling for Edward she still cannot be without Jacob’s friendship. She tries to keep a balance of Edward and Jacob in her life, as a soul mate and as a best friend, by trying to forget their true identities as a vampire and a werewolf .To make things worse ,there is enmity between werewolves and vampires, what puts a huge strain on Bellas relationship with Jacob.
Eventually Bella realizes that she has romantical feelings for Jacob too, because of her possible human future with him,but still thinks that the feelings are not as trong as with Edward and makes a decision to be with Edward .So quite large propotion of this book is devoted to the love triangle and Bellas confusion about her feelings for the future with either of the boys .In my opinion the triangle and messy relationship between the main characters made the book more intense and passionate .
It was very pleasant to spend time in Stephen Meyers fantasy world of vampires and werewolves.
Although the book was over 500 pages long it was a very fast read. I had to put down the book every evening with anxiety of what comes next.
This was the first Meyers book I read, but I have to say he made a great expression to me with his writings.
