Semi formal complaint letter

Dear Mr Smith, I am writing in because of a problem I have with the new neighbour, David, who has moved in downstairs. Unfortunately, his habits seems to be different than mine. The issue is that David is a musician who plays his electric guitar very late night. I understand he is in a band and needs to practice but I think he can not do this in apartment. I work in home, so for me, it is important to have silence so I can concentrate on my work. But when David is playing all the time it is unable to get any of my works done, except when he is out

Volunteer work

Dear Ms Peck, I saw your advertisement about volunteering work. I would like to join in and work with children. My name is Mari Mets and I am 18 years old. I speak Hungarian, English and Russian. I have a driving licence. Despite being 18 years old, I have organised holidays for youngsters before (2001 – Hungary; 2002 – Romania). In addition to that I have taken a course in child psychology (October – January 2000). Also, I really like children, I help with neighbour children on a regular basis. I could help with accommodation, organise games and activities, teach children various skills such as pottery, offer some help with general problems. I have some questions about the volunteer work. Where will the children be from? How long will the holidays be? What will living conditions be like? I look forward to hearing from you. Yours sincerely, M. Mets

Complaint letter

I am wiriting becouse of the poor level of service and overall an unpleasant experience. When I first got to the hotel, I had to wait for 15 minutes in the reception before a young woman came, and helped us book in. Throughout my stay I was served mediocre food. The bathroom wasen't cleaned properly and the room servise was pretty bad. The room servise rearly changed my bed sheets and towels. There were 6 power-cuts wich each lasted for atleast 2 minutes. Worse still, I had an extremly noisy neighbour who was entertaining his visitors until 4 AM, two nights in a row. I even complained to the manager but that didn't impove the situation until the third day. Overall the stay wasen't worth the cost but I am not asking for a chargeback. I just hope that you will improve your customer servise, otherwise I won't be the only one sending you letters. Sincerely, ...

"FRIENDSHIP"

What is that something that makes people call someone a friend? People value different characteristics of others, but it is certain, that a true friend has to be reliable, honest and understanding. Aristotle has said that without friends no one would choose to live, though he had all other goods. I agree with him. I think everyone needs a friend. What is the benefit of money and all other goods if you have no one to share it with? A friend can be your family member, your neighbour, classmate or even your dog. It may be weird to consider an animal as a friend, but people who have a dog or a cat should understand what I mean. Whoever tells that animals do not replace human, may be right, because they can not advise you. Moreover, they do not talk at all, but sometimes it is even better. Sometimes animals are better friends than people just because they listen and do not talk out of turn. Which is my vision of a true friend

Different nations

Usually people follow their religion and do not tolerate other beliefs. Such behavior may cause conflicts between the people with different religions. Even if we don't have other nations in our country, we'd be affected by the media, so we'll still use English words in our everyday talk and so on.Different nations should accept each others culture, language and traditions. Then it would not be that hard to live side by side. For example, when you have a new neighbour in your home town, who's English, you should go and visit him/her, introduce the town to the person, the customs and the traditions. Then it would be easier for the newcomer. If you're alone in a big strange and different country, you will need someone to support you. Someone, who could teach you to understand the foreign culture and language. We all should have some tolerance, humanity and some compassion. Then we could share our land friendly.

Finns are not anyone who would like to see Estonian sight-seeings or old-town, they are here for cheap alcohol. Regular Finn are an over-weight and very loud, usually because they are drunk. And our hotels are full of Finns. If you ever visit a passenger-port and see a person who have one or more luggage carriers full of export beer boxes then you have seen our north-neighbour. A short story

Today was one of those days where everything went wrong. I had prepared myself for a job interview for a long time because I wanted that job so much. One day before the interview I set the alarm clock at 7.00am, so that I would have enough time to get ready. The interview started at 9.00am. I woke up in the morning because I heard a door bell and wondered who could come so early. I saw my neighbour standing at the door holding a newspaper. ,,You always come at 8 o'clock. What are you doing here so early?" I asked. She raised her eyebrows, felt really confused and said she had come as usual. I glanced at my watch and understood that my alarm clock hadn't rang. My job interview would start in one hour and I had to hurry on a bus. Half an hour later I was in the bus station and felt relieved because I had still 5 minutes until my bus came

Tell an adult that you trust and can talk to your parents, your teacher, your best friends or even your neighbour. If you've told a grown-up before and they haven't done anything about it, tell someone else. Having someone else there to support you can make it a lot less scary. The Noble Savage in the 20th Century Fiction

20th century literature and film has projected these traits to not only exotic beings but also to every mentor we see in pop culture. A guide in today's story does not have to be a native of a completely different civilization but has to preserve its strange and alien nature. He is a relevant part of the hero's adventure, keeping him on the right tracks and helping him reach his final goal. But he is not a savage in the common sense, he is just weird and new. The hero's simple neighbour can not give new perspectives and ideas because he lives the same life the hero does. A mentor with the traits of a noble savage raises the interest for the hero to discover new worlds and philosophies and the consumer will leave his comfort zone with the protagonist. The best example of a noble savage projected to a mentor is Yoda from the Star War (first appearance in 1980) series. He's a Jedi master and a teacher to Luke Skywalker in a time of a

holidays in the sun. In the hot, flat centre of Australia, there is an area called the `outback'. It covers more than two-thirds of Australia, but its population is less than 100,000. In some places, it doesn't rain for years. There are hills and big dry salt lakes, and it is very difficult to grow anything there. Many people live on sheep or cattle stations, a few of which are as large as the country of England. The nearest neighbour can be a hundred kilometres away and the nearest city 1,500 kilometres away. Australia has a population of about 23 million people, most of whom live in the south and east of the country, where the summers are warm and the winters not too cold. The highest mountain in Australia is Mount Kosciuszko, at 2,228 metres. Australia's longest river, the Murray-Darling, is 2,700 kilometres long. The only large permanent lakes in

,,schwa" - is a reduced vowel that is in weak syllables only, and it's sound quality is mid and central. E.g. carrot, perhaps, attend. Syllabic consonants - l, n, m, , r can function as a syllable ( as in button [bt-n]); placing a "schwa" before a syllabic liquid or nasal also shows that these are separate syllables. Stress in simple words stressed first syllable indicates a noun, stressed second syllable indicates a verb (as in pérvert (N) `My neighbour is a pervert'; pervért (V) `Don't pervert the idea'). Factors that contribute to prominence of stress in syllables are loudness, length, pitch, quality. Stress (accent) relative loudness and tenseness of syllable peak, the use of extra respiratory energy during a syllable. Pitch (tone) the auditory property of a sound that enables a listener to place it on a scale going from low to high, without considering the acoustic properties such as the frequency of sound.

Anyway, I enjoyed doing this report and now you can read a little about them. 3 King Carl XVI Gustaf Carl XVI Gustaf is the King of Sweden. The sky over Estonia is cloudy for about half the year, and the hilly southeast region experiences up to 750 mm of precipitation due to Estonia's maritime climate. Nature While seven thousand rivers and streams carry rainwater to the sea, bogs and wooded swamplands of different types cover over one fifth of the country -- a world index topped only by the northern neighbour, Finland. Various kinds of forests comprise slightly under half of Estonia's territory. Wetlands, together with primeval forests, represent preserved communities which have for the most part been destroyed in Europe. More than 1000 lakes (5 per cent of the Estonian territory) dot the countryside, which is relatively flat -- almost two thirds of the territory lies less than 50 m above sea level. The highest point is Suur Munamägi, 317 m above sea level, in the southeast of the country.

The maid answered the door and showed in our neighbour, Mr. Thomas Smith. Our families are very friendly. He calls me by my nickname, Bill; though my real name is William. I call him Tom, which is short for Thomas. I: Hallo, Tom. Come in. Glad to see you. TOM: Good evening, Mary. Hallo, Bill. Susan sends her regards. She wants you both to come with us to the pictures. MARY: That's very kind of her. How is she? TOM: She's very well, but she's rather anxious about young Tommy. MARY: What's the matter with him? Nothing serious, I hope.

But it makes talk; and that's not as it should be. CLEANTE Eh! madam, can you hope to keep folk's tongues From wagging? It would be a grievous thing If, for the fear of idle talk about us, We had to sacrifice our friends. No, no; Even if we could bring ourselves to do it, Think you that everyone would then be silenced? Against backbiting there is no defence So let us try to live in innocence, To silly tattle pay no heed at all, And leave the gossips free to vent their gall. DORINE Our neighbour Daphne, and her little husband, Must be the ones who slander us, I'm thinking. Those whose own conduct's most ridiculous, Are always quickest to speak ill of others; They never fail to seize at once upon The slightest hint of any love affair, And spread the news of it with glee, and give it The character they'd have the world believe in. By others' actions, painted in their colours, They hope to justify their own; they think, In the false hope of some resemblance, either

Estonian holidays, festivals, cultural events

On the islands of Saaremaa and Hiiumaa, old fishing boats may be burnt in the large pyres set ablaze. On Jaaniõhtu, Estonians all around the country will gather with their families, or at larger events to celebrate this important day with singing and dancing, as Estonians have done for centuries. The celebrations that accompany Jaaniõhtu are the largest and most important of the year, and the traditions are similar those of Sweden, Finland and the southern neighbour Latvia. Since 1934 the June 23 is also national Victory Day of Estonia and both 23 & 24 are holidays. 20 August Day of Restoration of Independence: Estonia regains independence after Soviet times. The public holiday celebrates the restoration of independence in 1991, when the failed hard line coup in Moscow led to the collapse of the Soviet Union. Museums are usually closed on this day.
