Estonian Independence Day

Independence in Pärnu on February 24, 1918. after winning the Estonian Liberation War against Soviet Russia and at the same time German Freekorps volunteers (the Tartu Peace Treaty was signed on 2 February 1920), Estonia maintained its independence for 22 years. Initially a parliamentary democracy, the parliament was disnaded in 1934, following political unrest caused by the global economic crisis. Subsequently the country was ruled by decree by Konstatin Päts, who became President in 1938, the year parliamentary elections resumed. Estonia was occupied by the Soviet Union in June 1940, after Stalin gained Hitler's agreement to divide Eastern Europe into ,,spheres of special interest" according to the MolotovRibbentrop Pact and its secret protocol. Subsequently, the country was occupied by Nazi Germany from 1941 to 1944. Germans pillaged the country for the war effort and unleashed the Holocaust.

started an open-air school for slum children. Soon she was joined by voluntary helpers, and financial support was also forthcoming. This made it possible for her to extend the scope of her work. On October 7, 1950, Mother Teresa received permission from the Holy See to start her own order, "The Missionaries of Charity", whose primary task was to love and care for those persons nobody was prepared to look after. In 1965 the Society became an International Religious Family by a decree of Pope Paul VI. Today the order comprises Active and Contemplative branches of Sisters and Brothers in many countries. In 1963 both the Contemplative branch of the Sisters and the Active branch of the Brothers was founded. In 1979 the Contemplative branch of the Brothers was added, and in 1984 the Priest branch was established. The Society of Missionaries has spread all over the world, including the former Soviet Union and Eastern European countries

Romeo and Juliet

Meeting Romeo by happenstance, he attempts to provoke a fight. Romeo refuses to fight Tybalt because they are now kinsmen -- although Tybalt doesn't know it, as he doesn't yet know that Romeo has married Juliet. Mercutio, who is also unaware of the marriage, is angered by Tybalt's insolence and Romeo's seeming indifference and takes up the challenges himself. Benvolio tries to make peace and reminds everyone of the Prince's decree. In the ensuing swordplay, Romeo attempts to allay Mercutio's anger, momentarily placing his arm around him. By doing so, however, Romeo inadvertently pulls Mercutio into Tybalt's rapier, fatally wounding him. Mercutio dies, wishing "a plague a'both your houses," before he passes. Romeo, in his anger, pursues and slays Tybalt. Although under the Prince of Verona's proclamation Romeo (and Montague and Capulet, as well)

Valentine's day

Valentine's Day. History There are many versions of the history of Valentine's Day. One version is that there was a priest named Valentine who served during third century Rome. There was an Emperor at that time by the name of Claudius II. Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers than those that were married. With this thought in mind he outlawed marriage for young men in hopes of building a stronger military base. Supposedly, Valentine decided this decree just wasn't fair and chose to marry young couples secretly. When Emperor Claudius II found out about Valentine's actions he had him put to death. Another legend has it that Valentine was an imprisoned man who fell in love with his jailor's daughter. Before he was put to death he sent the first 'valentine' himself when he wrote her a letter and signed it 'Your Valentine', words still used on cards today. Probably we'll never know which of the versions the right one is. Traditions

Larding their chatter with foreign phrases typical to the gentry.. e destruction of patriarchal and monarchical illusion Religion allied with feudalism, odd aristocratic sentimentality, Bucolic life. 3 The love-story between the peasant and the landlord symbolises an underlying problem of the society on the eve of Emancipation in 1861 (the serfs were emancipated by royal decree in 1861, novel set in 1959). Such a relationship between landowner and peasant girl takes the reader further into ideology, calling to mind the social scene in Russia on the eve of Emancipation. Some (contemporary) critics found this illegal affair as proof of the weak morals of the gentry despite their high ideals and ideologies of class. As Nikolai is initially ashamed of his affair and illegitimate son, offering to hide Fenichka while Bazarovs stays, he

to Rome and ordered to desist teaching Copernican theory. He was, however, free to think about Copernican theory, but he could not teach it or write about it. Galileo agreed to this condition but still maintained that his mechanical philosophy described the natural world better than any alternative explanation. He was confident, extremely confident, that his position was the correct one. So confident was Galileo that in 1632 he imagined that the decree regarding his public advocacy of Copernican theory could be overturned. He began to criticize the clergy, who would preach the damnability and heresy of the new doctrine from their very pulpits with unwanted confidence, thus doing impious and inconsiderate injury not only to that doctrine and its followers but to all mathematics and mathematicians in general.

My blessing upon you; I have approved Islam for your religion." Still others describe Islam as an action of returning to God--more than just a verbal affirmation of faith. Articles of faith According to the Qur'an all Muslims have to believe in God, his revelations, his angels, his messengers, and in the "Day of Judgment". Also, there are other beliefs that differ between particular sects. The Sunni concept of predestination is called divine decree, while the Shi'a version is called divine justice. Unique to the Shi'a is the doctrine of Imamah, or the political and spiritual leadership of the Imams. Muslims believe that God revealed his final message to humanity through the Islamic prophet Muhammad via the angel Gabriel. For them, Muhammad was God's final prophet and the Qur'an is the revelations he received over more than two decades. In Islam, prophets are men selected by God to be his messengers

collapsed, the Provisional government in Russia declared a new course towards establishing a democratic republic. A great number of political parties immediately sprang up in Estonia. By appointing Jaan Poska the Estonian provincial commissar, the new central government handed the local administration over to Estonian politicians. On 12 April 1917, under the pressure of the ever increasing demands for autonomy that the Estonians had been voicing since 1905, the Provisional government issued a decree on the provisional management of the administrative government and local government. Thus, Estonia (North-Estonia) and North- Livonia (South-Estonia) were united into one administrative unit, locally governed and with elements of autonomy included (Estonians were the only nation among all other minorities in Russia to achieve this). The commissar formed the Estonian Provincial Assembly (Diet) -- the first all-Estonian representative body -- and a Land Council as its executive body. The

In such a system, the executive does not pass laws (the role of the legislature) or interpret them (the role of the judiciary). Instead, the executive enforces the law as written by the legislature and interpreted by the judiciary. The executive can be the source of certain types of law, such as a decree or executive order. The games were held in honour of Zeus, the principal god of the Greeks. They lasted for five days and became a symbol of peace and friendship, because in keeping with the decree of that time no wars could be waged during the Games. The athletes competed in running, boxing, wrestling, horse and chariot racing and the like. The winners were presented with laurel wreaths in the temple of Zeus. There is a list of Winners dating from 776 EC. 2)The Games took place every four years and were so important in the life of the Greeks that they culculated time by them.
